American Atheists FOIAs Trump’s DOJ… Again

Washington, DC — Today, American Atheists submitted a FOIA request to the Department of Justice after the Department used Trump’s Religious Liberty Commission mailing list to promote a White Christian Nationalist event, dubbed “Rededicate 250.” The event is scheduled to take place on Sunday, May 17, on the National Mall.

In response, Geoffrey T. Blackwell, Legal Director at American Atheists, released the following statement:

The list of speakers reads like a who’s who of Christian extremism: the Chancellor of Liberty University, the president of Hillsdale College, Paula White, Franklin Graham, and numerous others.

That the Department of Justice would use the list of those attending the meetings of a government commission to promote a purely Christian event highlights just how far this administration will go to push their extremism.

We will continue to shine a light on this administration’s abuses of power and its exploitation of our justice system to promote their White Christian Nationalist ideology.

American Atheists has previously sought information about the Trump Administration’s use of government agencies to promote sectarian religious messages.
