More than it should be, but not as much as many in the GOP and Tea Parties would like.  Many politicians have no understanding of constitutional law and wish to bully minorities who get in the way.  In another era, these people would have been called fascists.  That is certainly what they are now.  In fact, we stand at the brink of a religiously spawned fascism that will be ushered in by the likes of Romney and his ilk.  Faith must be challenged now more than ever and shown for its wholesale lack of logic and evidence.  It has no legs for supporting public policy and should be given no respect in this arena.

Religion was built as a tool to put social control over people to build morals and values and even civilization. It was a part of growing up in our history, but even now that we don't need it because of our intelligence, natural moral, and reason, it is being used to manipulate people rather than to tame them. Religion in politics is shameless and idiotic, really. everyone really needs to take all of these "fascists" (I agree with mspry) and oppose them, to protect the division between church and state that gives us the ability to think for ourselves.

So if religoun was a tool that was made to instill morals and values and it has been corrupted into this illogical and "fascist" system, then how long until Atheism does the same?  After all, power does corrupt.  How long until Atheists are hunting and killing Christians as people did centuries ago in the name (not the will) of Christ?  How long until they are just as bad as religous nuts?  Isn't the real problem people, not religoun or lack of religioun?

Here is a quote from George Washington's Farewell Address:  Of all the dispositions and habits, which lead to political prosperity, Religion and Morality are indispensable supports.

to PPLTWRD.   TAKE A BREAK.  God who doesn't exist is the problem because to many people believe he exists and believe they know what he commands. The atheist/secular/humanist agenda is about freeing not enslaving. Give me a break!  Nah, give me a vacation.

And have the cajones to publish your name. Only anarchists and wimps wear masks.

The founding fathers created a government which was supposed to keep separate religion and politics; hence Amendment 1 in the Bill of Rights. Unfortunately, we have moved towards not away from the marriage of church and state. Today a candidate for most, if not all, offices in national and state politics are unelectable if he or she is atheist or agnostic. In a perfect world, and one in which our Founding Fathers envisioned was one where the opposite would be true. It would be ideal if a candidate who professed a ‘belief’ in god would be unelectable rather than the way we currently stand. It is what was intended but not what has developed.
