American Atheists is a champion of the separation of government and religion. We believe firmly that true religious freedom only comes if the government stays out of the question. We do not support "forced Atheism", as some allege, because that would be just as much of a loss of freedom. The government needs to stay out of the question of people's thoughts, and allow all citizens to act as they believe and pay only for those beliefs as they so choose.
