Looking forward to it... should be good!
Just a suggestion I think would be more evidential and useful in debate next time: Instead of just telling people to research Google, and since you should have expected the usual tactic of an opponent using a "shotgun arguments" approach, I think you should have a list of specific scholars and book/article titles or websites at the ready to suggest people read refuting each type of argument. For instance, "Noted and respected phyciscists such as Victor Stenger in his book demolishes the fine-tuning argument...", etc.
Also tell people to read all four gospels in parallel and count all the contridictions apologists have been trying to harmonize and make excuses about for centuries...
It was fun torture anyway! Thx.
I'm not clear who that's addressed to, Tiresius.
My experience over the years is that
A. most theists tend to re-interpret (& re-tool) any interpretations of EVERYTHING, including argument refutations (Loki's wager is a favorite), &
B. having long involved discussions of the gospels (& any other of their fairy tales) & their incredible lack of credibility tends to lend credibility & authority to their iron age crap, which is the complete opposite effect one would prefer.
So, in summation, I used your advice when I started out. Didn't work. Courtesy is also lost on them, as most people think that if you're polite, they have a valid point.
I agree that blind faith believers will not be persuaded by anything an atheist throws out there, but in my opinion they should not be one's target observers anyway. The ones you want are the ones you do not hear clapping for either side and are looking for some direction from both sides. I was like that once and was grateful for the pointers to further elaboration and citations by the non-theist. So I respectfully have to suggest we agree to disagree. ;-)
This is very true about blind believers, they are in denial of contradictions and fail prophecies in the bible. They don't want to admit the bible is falliable.
The big problem w/debating believers, if you argue about the details of the bibble w/them, it goes sorta like this:
"Well, in the bible, this event in the bible is contradicted by the laws of physics, this event in the bible has no historical basis whatsoever, these 2 versions in the bible contradict each other"
the 'true believer' hears this:
"blah blah blah bible, blah blah the bible, blah blah blah the bible blah blah blah, blah 2 versions in the bible blah blah"
So it's useless to use their own holy book against them.
I just tell people I refuse to accept the bible as an authority on ANYTHING.
blair presented the facts, kyle presented no facts just mumble jumble and he dance around around the scriptures how violent his imaginery god was.
That is true the bible has no real authority.
To say the least Blair Scott I was confused when I left the debate...Not for any reasons you might be thinking. You didn't debate anything! You didn't prove your point. It wasn't a debate to prove that God exists...it was a debate to prove God does not exist. You even told us yourself that nobody can prove that God does not exist.
You must believe that there is a Hell (since you felt compelled to use that term when making your opening statement)? If yes, then you must believe in satan...if yes then why can't you believe that God exists? Have you ever seen satan? Have you ever seen the wind? We can see the results of the wind but we can't actually see the wind. So why is it so impossible to believe in God? Judgement day is coming. What if you are wrong? I implore you to get ready to meet your maker!
Seriously? Are you joking? That's like saying he has to prove that unicorns DON'T exist. It's ridiculous.
Do you have evidence otherwise? That this critter DOES exist? Until then, all your gymnastics are a moot point.
That's 1 of the more asinine statements ever. If he had used the word 'hades', or 'elysium fields', would he believe in Pluto?
You should really let some answer the question before you go off on some irrelevant tangent.
Why yes, he used to be the vice president. (hehehehe)
Have you ever debated other adults? This is another ridiculous statement.
Sure, but we can't see the results of your devil or your 'gawd', so this is a broken analogy.
A timeless, ageless invisible immortal being who likes to break its toys when they exercise that darned 'free will'? Ha.
That's a long wait for a train that ain't comin'. - Serenity. They've been proclaiming the end of days for going on 2 thousand years.
What if? - the foxhole theists retreat to.
I'm a-bettin' he met his parents already.
First of blair gave facts, kyle gave none. I read the bible many times and visit many churches and I witness no conversions,no healings no realities of the scriptures just words, people stayed the same ,they were just brainwashed believing in myths not reality.
