Are Religious People More Susceptible to Scams?

Friday, December 3rd, 2010

The Huffington Post recently posted an article titled “Do Religious People Make Easy Targets For Scams?”

From the article, “Based on Harvard’s 2006 Faith Matters Survey, Putnam and Campbell conclude religious people are viewed as more trustworthy by both religious and nonreligious Americans, and also tend to be more trusting of others.”

It sounds to me like it is not really about religion, per se, but about skepticism. Granted, religious people tend to be less skeptical about issues (otherwise they wouldn’t be religious), but we also know a few atheists out there that believe in goofy stuff as well.

On the Catholic Billboard

Wednesday, December 1st, 2010

The Catholic League has placed a billboard in NY right outside of the Lincoln Tunnel which truly offends me.

The Billboard reads: You Know it’s Real; This season, celebrate Jesus.

How DARE they? I KNOW it’s real? How dare they tell me what I KNOW? Indeed, how can THEY even know? They just THINK! I mean they have their truth, and I have mine. This is intolerant and offensive.

And what about the children? If I drive into NY for some solstice shopping with my kids, the children might see the billboard and ask me questions! QUESTIONS! Sure, I could just blow it off, or explain the concepts of different people thinking different things, but what is really much more likely is that they will stop being atheists and start being Catholics because of this billboard, which of course will cause them to go to ‘atheist hell’ and even worse, make me look bad in the atheist community. All because of this horrible, aggressive billboard.

Aggressive, militant, and in-your-face advertisements like this have no place on our roadways or anywhere they can be seen. We have a free country, and you are free to believe as you wish, but you should keep it silent so you don’t offend me.

And they spent MONEY on this billboard! Wouldn’t that money be better spent helping people, rather than attacking my rights?

The Catholic League has insulted, offended, and assaulted me and everyone non-catholic. Everyone who doesn’t KNOW it’s real is excluded! How dare they target their audience? How dare they say what they mean? Their speech offends me! I say we should all boycott LAMAR billboards and all Catholic people until this horrific display is removed.
