Nope. Not a Joke. They Want to Kill the Killer Whale

What color is the sky in Christianland?

The cafeteria Christians have surprised me again by their total ignorance and callousness. Check this out from the Huffington Post

The American Family Association, a religious right group, is urging that Tillikum (Tilly), the killer whale that killed a trainer at SeaWorld Orlando, be put down, preferably by stoning. Citing Tilly’s history of violent altercations, the group is slamming SeaWorld for not listening to Scripture in how to deal with the animal:

Says the ancient civil code of Israel, “When an ox gores a man or woman to death, the ox shall be stoned, and its flesh shall not be eaten, but the owner shall not be liable.” (Exodus 21:28)

However, the group is going further and laying the blame for the trainer’s death directly at the feet of Chuck Thompson, the curator in charge of animal behavior, because, according to Scripture,

But, the Scripture soberly warns, if one of your animals kills a second time because you didn’t kill it after it claimed its first human victim, this time you die right along with your animal. To use the example from Exodus, if your ox kills a second time, “the ox shall be stoned, and its owner also shall be put to death.” (Exodus 21:29)

When I first read this, I thought it was an Onion Article, and totally tongue-in-cheek. Nope. Here’s the source.

The ignorant fool, who ignores all the other wonderful places in the Bible that talk about murder (like gays, atheists, witches, etc), chooses the phrase that mandates we kill an animal in the case of an attack. He asks, again in complete ignorance, “What about the term “killer whale” do SeaWorld officials not understand?”

It means they kill seals, idjit.

I’ve always wondered, if they know it’s an incredibly powerful hunter, and it even likes to play with its food before eating it, and it could easily do the same to any human on the planet, why do they get into a tank with them??

Natural selection, I say. The more equipped mammal won.

  2. Actually, the ‘killer’ in killer whale refers to its large diet, which consists of seals, sea lions, & other whales. Historically, the blackfish doesn’t go after humans very much @ all. In fact, this is the only known death of a human that I’ve ever heard of.

All right Dave! Way to go (again) in echoing a deliberate distortion! Nowhere in the AFA’s post does it say they “prefer” the whale—or even Chuck Thompson—“be stoned.” Even a sixth grader could comprehend that the AFA’s point was that the animal poses a clear threat to human beings and that Thompson is the morally responsible party for Dawn Brancheau death—and not that they were calling for the whale or Thompson to be stoned.

Gee Dave, I really thought you were at least smarter than the buffoons at Huffington Post (if I were you, I’d be a bit more careful who I call an “idjit.”)

The specific passage from Exodus was cited by the AFA. Now, obviously this group does not take the bible literally, otherwise they would have realized this rule applies only to oxen, not large marine mammals. However, this group recognizes that the bible must be taken literally, and therefore the animal should have been put down long ago. So, since the bible must be taken literally (in the AFA’s point of view), they are in fact implying that the whale should be stoned and its owner sued to death.

Hmmm. Since no one has yet to produce actual verbiage from the AFA site that unambiguously indicates that they “prefer the whale be stoned,” could you please explain to me how their citing of a criminal code, divinely revealed to a specific nation and serves merely as a precedent to indicate culpability in the case of an animal that repeatedly kills human beings, can possibly be construed to imply “that the whale should be stoned and its owner sued to death?”

    • Hunker down around the campfire, kiddies, as ol’ unca jcc explains how the bibble doesn’t say what it says.
Of course, people who use the bible for anything at all are usually a few muffins shy of a baker’s dozen anyways.

lol, I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again. Jesus himself could prove JCC is wrong and he won’t accept it.

Ok, so who’s proven me wrong? Perhaps you could answer my question above?

KA1 thinks he understands how the big bang happened, and he really knows about dark energy and dark matter. He’s so cool, he thinks that anyone who keeps their mind open is fucked up. He reminds me a lot of my parents who thought that if you didn’t believe in god, you were fucked up. I am really angry at both of them, but, I don’t want to kill them. I just want both of them to shut up while I laugh.

Religion taints everything with it’s foul odor. A Christians life, that is when he/she is “in the spirit”, has a mind clouded by religious ignorance. An animal acts instinctually, without consideration, thought. This whale should not be “put down” simply because some human did not exercise the common sense a human possesses.

What a Christian means when he/she asks you to look at the ignorance of the bible with an open mind, is not for you to examine the evidence or information, but to accept it blindly without proof. Otherwise, that request would not be made, for they possess no evidence.

An atheist can have an open-mind, and most often does, but that is not what the believer is really asking.

Damn it, Dave! I love what you do in fighting the good fight for Atheism, but going with the sensationalist flow does not help the cause. If you had read the article, you would have seen that he was not calling for an actual stoning. Misinterpretation (or simply trusting in some other idjit’s interpretation), without reading the story is something I’d expect of Republicans, not you. Oh, wait, you admitted to being a Republican. Let me rephrase … It’s something I’d expect of the moronic mainstream media, not you.

PS, I don’t think any captive predator that is expected to behave nicely 100% of the time should be put down for behaving like a predator. The possibility of instinct overwhelming the training is always a distinct possibility, which every handler knows.

  13. wizmonkey98 says:

Orcas are not actually whales. They are called “killer whales” because they literally kill whales. Regardless, it’s Seaworld officials who should be stoned for thinking its okay to put large, powerful migratory animals in kiddie pools and forcing them to perform tricks.
