Professional Liar Begs for Attention

Wednesday, January 13th, 2010

How repugnant is this? In an act of desperation and a need for attention, the Great Professional Liar Pat Robertson has claimed that the earthquake was their own fault for making a deal with the Devil to free them from Napoleon! Duh.

I guess he knows this… how?

Pat Robertson is panicking. He needs web traffic, and he needs attention. This is not real — it’s marketing. He’s a liar, not a moron. Only his followers are morons.

Dave Is a Creationist, of Sorts

Tuesday, January 12th, 2010

Last night I had the pleasure of viewing the Creation Movie at a screening in NY.

‘tsgood.

The movie is about Charles Darwin, as most of you know, and centers around his life between devising the Theory of Evolution Through Natural Selection and its publication. This is a touching story, highlighting the man, husband, and father behind the genius.

It’s a good story, but it’s also an important story. It conveys the clear point that Darwin was not about destroying religion or God, and that in fact the whole concept sickens him. It humanizes Darwin as an imperfect (and sometimes insane) man who loves his family more than anything, but through his own intellect discovered what may be “the most important single idea in the history of thought”.

Religious and nonreligious alike need to see this movie. It will help you know and understand the genius a little bit better.

“In Hasan Case, Superiors Ignored Their Worries”

Monday, January 11th, 2010

Article:  http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,582732,00.html

I know Fox News is not always the most reliable source for impartial news in the world, but when it comes to reporting on the Fort Hood shooting, they’ve been generally pretty accurate.  It is pretty clear that MAJ Hasan’s interpretation of his faith contributed to his actions on 5 Nov 09 and it is also clear that some warning signs were present but were ignored (of course, hindsight is almost always 20/20).  The question is, why were the signs ignored?  I have my own theories but I’m really interested in what other folks think.

Back from a LONG Weekend

Monday, January 11th, 2010

First of all, I’d like to thank Kathleen Johnson, my co-VP, who stepped in and posted blog entries over this past weekend while I was away. She’s going to hopefully keep posting as time goes on!

I spent all weekend with other atheist activists at two full-fay meetings in Washington DC. The results of these meetings were substantial, and information will be forthcoming, but I’d just like to say what a great feeling it was to sit at a table — a HUGE table – with members from so many other groups and so many other activists. 15 years ago this would never have happened, but now we are all on the same page, under the same roof, working to the same goals. It’s a good time to be an atheist activist.

Belief and the brain’s ‘God spot’

Sunday, January 10th, 2010

Interesting read:

“Scientists say they have located the parts of the brain that control religious faith. And the research proves, they contend, that belief in a higher power is an evolutionary asset that helps human survival. ”
