Trying again

Bloggers, we are once again befuddled by spam and other wonderful blogosphere bunk. Whoopie.

In an attempt to block it, I’ve upgraded to the most recent version of the blog and spam-protection software, and reactivated it. This means your comments will be moderated, at least until i can find a better way to do this. Comments and suggestions are solicited.

We are doing this to make the blog better, not worse, for everyone. This didn’t work well last time (a lot of users could not get whitelisted for some reason). Please be patient.

Dave

I think this is a good idea. Comment spam is one of the few things I hate more than religious wack-jobbery! Better to have issues with legitimate comments than get flooded with garbage.

Is it possible to do a one-time moderation at the point of registration?

I mean, whenever anybody new tries to post something, send them an email that they’ll have to respond to before they’re allowed to log in.

    To Dave

Good luck hope that you figure it out.

  4. Not, if memory serves, you were one of the people who couldn’t get white-listed last time. Now that you are posting without moderation (already turned on), I think this is a good sign that this flaw was fixed.

We can only hope (prayer doesn’t work).

I have no idea what your talking about if you are refering to me. If you have band me I would like to know the reason and as a member of American Atheists I will file a complaint.

Hmmm….Mark. Dave was speaking to Not..soFast. Fondly known as NSF.

But it does explain why you have such difficulty understanding Scripture. Perhaps if you read out loud it might help. Sounds funny, but it’s a cure for those who have reading comprehension issues.

Dave…I think the email link for registration might be a great idea. Have you tried that yet? Tell me, does the upgraded software cost AA anything?

I attempted to post a responce to your post. That post was rejected with something that I considered offensive. It was only with the second post that I realized I was not banned. Since Daves post was right after my post and with the trouble I had with posting my responce to you it was within reason. So let’s get back to you.

Because of your indoctrination and brain washing you may have missed the obvious. Gays & Lesbian & transgender people are in fact real people who may be asked questions and give answers to their situations. Unlike the law givers of the Christian religion which are long dead and buried and if God is just burning in their eternal damnation.

It is a shame that you can be so deluded as to give the post that you did concerning the Atheist sign. You want your religious beliefs to be held sacred and yet you will piss on other beliefs. May you follow the apostles into their just judgment. And Burn in eternal, well you know the rest.

      • Mark, you are obviously not banned. You’d have to go pretty far and pass a few warnings before that would happen. My apologies for the confusion.

      • avatar phreedm says:

Mark…I believe your hatred prevents you from having any type of intelligent discussion. Thanks for the offer, but if life has taught me anything, it’s the fact that we have the choice to pick our battles.

The contradictions and lies contained in the bible and are obvious and straight forward.

  5. Looks like the commentary is back to the old format too.

Speaking as somebody who uses WordPress a *lot*, I recommend using a combination of three plugins for spam fighting:

    1. Cookies for Comments – Uses a simple cookie-based approach to ensure that people sending comments to your site are sending them from your own comment form and are not spam bots bypassing the form. Very effective. Zero maintenance, zero false positives.

    2. Simple Trackback Validation – Uses several simple approaches to eliminate bot-based trackback spam. Zero maintenance, zero false positives.

    3. Akismet – Uses Akismet’s servers to check if a comment looks like spam or not. This is the catch-all solution, it catches what makes it through the other two. Some maintenance, some false positives. But in combination with the other two, there’s almost no work involved, those other two cut out all the obvious bot attacks, eliminating all but the most clever spam, which Akismet can catch.

The combination of these three is very good, plus they don’t add a significant amount of load to the site, unlike some other plugins do. So this is my advice: Don’t bother with any other anti-spam plugins for now.

  7. Thanks Otto! Will check it out.

A health tip, vodka cleans the liver.

Thanks Dave for trying to limit junk posts; it is irritating but not as much as religious dogma.

And “reason” I had long thought daily doses of Beefeaters was a good liver cleanser. Maybe it depends on the person.

I trust everybody here knows better than to believe anything Don’tBreedm says. I am NOT the National Science Foundation.

Is Sarah Silverman your sister? She’s not only cute, but the girl is hilarious. I never really cared for her series because its kinda campy, but her standup and guest appearances are gut busters. Definitely off the wall.

I would give my left nut to see her and Lew Black take turns skewering orthodox judaism. Two of my favorite comics, and neither have any qualms about taking their own religious heritage to the mat. If blank brains could only see how Jews view their own society, maybe we could get some of these turds who contribute here to realize that there is no collosal conspiracy. By the way Dave, while I admire what the nation of Israel has accomplished since it was basically left defending it’s new homeland with pitchforks, it doesn’t mean I want to have sex with you. LOL.

    • LOL Neo! Yes Sarah could definitely pass for my sister. I’d love to meet her some day. Maybe she can get together with Lewis Black and they could make super-Jatheist babies :)

BTW there will be a speaker at the convention who specializes in making fun of Jews. Should be hilarious.
