A conservative activist and Illinois comptroller candidate was escorted from the Illinois State Capitol building Wednesday when he tried to remove a sign put up by an atheist group.
…
But Kelly said he believes the problem is not only the verbiage of the sign, but also its proximity to the Christmas tree.“The fact that sign was immediately in front of the tree, I found that to be disturbing because any family and any child would run up to that tree with a smile on their face, and they would immediately see that sign,” Kelly said.
I have a love/hate relationship with this specific sign. On the one hand it is completely correct, and on the other hand it shows the world just how bigoted and ignorant some Christians can be. OK. Maybe it’s a love/love relationship.

Hopefully he will be charged with a felony
At the time of the winter solstice, let reason prevail. There are no gays, no lesbians, no transvestites, no transgenders. There is only our natural world. Homosexuality is just myth and superstition that hardens hearts and enslaves minds
As usual, the religious re-translate reality to suit their pecadillos.
Have you noticed, they’re doing a lot of this lately. They’ve run out of words of their own; all they can do anymore is ape.
Dave,
Your website has become extremely slow, and hijackers like the post above who use the threadhead as a username to try to sell software are probably to blame. You need to debug your server.
Now, on topic, I was surprised you didn’t provide a news link. I found myself curious as to what the sign said that left this bible thumper so offended.
In defiance of the First Amendment, mental midgets like Phreedumb and JaCCoff continue to claim that America is a Christian nation. They not only demand to retain the right for Christmas to be a legal holiday, they demand to continue to lie to their impressionable children that their is a Santa Claus who knows when they’re naughty and nice. But, I think its a fitting parallel with the rest of their religion which is also a raft of ridiculous falsehoods. Santa is real, god is real? We are waiting for them to grow up and stop waiting with milk and cookies for a promise that will never come true.
It comes as no surprise that the same calibre of troglodite, who thinks that by believing in eternal life he will escape the eventuality of every animal who ever existed on this planet, in his self induced delusion, believes he can deny the right of freethinkers to call the world to a message of clarity, common sense, and reason.
And those who have chosen to expend the effort to read my posts in the past probably know I call myself agnostic. I think that the assumption that there is no force at work and that the universe is an accident is a leap of faith unbased in scientific evidence. But it still leaves no excuse for piling your blind hopes on the legends created by ancient witchdoctors of tribal goat herders, cannibals, and barbarians.
So the older the story is, the closer god and origin it must be? Ridiculous!!! It spewed out of early man’s desire to make sense of what he did not understand. All you have to do is read the story of Galileo to know how the church has labored to keep us in our ignorance. I think, as a father, that our loving god would teach us the truth about the universe and not keep us in the dark. Myth busted.
NeoWolfe
Why do you keep coming to this blog and insisting that answering “I don’t know” is the only reasonable answer to nonsensical questions. There are no answers to nonsensical questions YOU FOOL!
NeoWolfe,
I’ve read your post and realized that you are straddling the fence like a true Agnostic.:) I’ve made a few comments addressing issues with your position, so please let me know if I’ve misinterpreted what you meant to say in your following quotes:
As a full blown Atheist, I will NOT say nor do I believe science says there are “NO” forces at work in the Universe… I WILL say and I believe science says there are NATURAL forces at work in the Universe; not SUPERNATURAL forces. There’s a difference! Science HAS proven that there are natural forces at work in the Universe. I won’t insult your intelligence by giving examples.
You seem to have issue with the Universe being created by accident or by natural causes. I don’t understand why creation of the Universe by accident or natural forces is so objectionable.
The word “accident”, as I define it, is an event that occurs WITHOUT a predetermined INTENT or PURPOSE; an UNINTENDED consequence. If this is the definition you’ve used, then I believe the Universe “WAS” created by ACCIDENT, without planned intent or purpose.
You said, and I’m paraphrasing, that it’s a leap of faith to believe that the Universe was created by accident and that it was unbased in scientific evidence. Your assertion is that there is no more evidence in support of an accidently created Universe than there is for one designed by a God. Right? If so, then you’ve missed the subtleties that separate science from faith.
There is INDEED a scientific BASIS for believing the Universe was created accidently (natural forces), so I reject your comment stating there was none. A naturally created Universe is BASED on the absence of evidence in support of the alternative (The Biblical definition/description of God). I would say there’s MORE evidence in support of Gods ABSENCE than there is evidence in support of God’s PRESENCE. The absence of evidence for God, either direct or indirect, IS evidence of said God’s absence. Evidence of Gods absence is the evidence that serve as the BASIS for the accidental creation of the Universe. That’s it!!!
In summary, the creation of the Universe by accident does NOT require a leap of faith as you asserted; especially when the evidence (absence or presence thereof) demonstrates SCIENTIFICALLY that there’s nothing more than natural forces and their laws, opportunity for clashes, and consequences of clashes at work. Again, this IS the BASIS from which science uses as evidence in support of its position on the creation of the Universe.
Right!!!!! Using methods not rooted in reality doesn’t answer the Big questions nor solve worldly problems.
I can agree with your statement above, but what’s your final position on the creation of the Universe? Was it designed or not?
You don’t seem to wholly agree with an accidently created Universe, but you also don’t agree with the Universe being created by a designer. I get it…you’re Agnostic, but you seemed convince of third explanation that exists outside the realm of accidental creation or designed creation.
What is it?
fuck hackers
above yet another hijacker. A link that leads nowhere. Dave you need lauch these assholes.
NeoWolfe
Launch your own asshole. It’s obviously doing you no good. The crap that spews from your mouth proves you haven’t used it for years.
The narrow perspectives available to the religious make them oblivious to the rights of others to free expression. The assumption by these narrow minded people that everyone observes their religion as appropriate and mainstream is mistaken.
right dw
I’m sure theres some irony in their arrogant presumptions somewhere….
the gull to inform us about the likes and dislikes of supernatural being friend, how dare they….
we are tired of your dumb stories in the public forum stupid religion….you only deserve ridicule….
The sign reads: “At the time of the winter solstice, let reason prevail. There are no gods, no devils, no angels, no heaven or hell. There is only our natural world. Religion is just myth and superstition that hardens hearts and enslaves minds.”
