Gap/Old Navy to air Christmas ads after all?

Did the American Family Association win, or does Gap/Old Navy/Banana have more up their sleeve – we’ll find out soon when the new ad airs.

‘According to Bill Chandler, vice-president of Gap corporate communications, Gap’s Old Navy division will launch a new television commercial this weekend which “has a very strong Christmas theme.”‘

I think the good people at Gap/Old Navy have the first amendment right to pander to people suffering from amazingly stupid ancient superstitions. I think we should respect their rights, and continue viciously ridiculing idiotic stoopit clubs.

Sure they have the first amendment right to air such commercials and we have the same rights to criticize them. So what are you trying to point out? That we have rights? Gee thanks for hot tip.

A classic example of atheist tolerance…

Why have there been no posts by Dave Silverman about religious jew Lloyd Blankfein. He is CEO of Goldman Sachs and key player in our economic downfall who thinks he is “Doing God’s work”. The guy has a synagogue named after him.

    • reason says:

Also no mention of a top jewish charity fundraiser who met obama in WH. This fundraiser happens to have a life sentence in russia for ordering 5 people killed.

    • Has Blankfein done something wrong, specifically?

      • rice says:

Excuse me? What do you mean by “something wrong”?

      • You brought it up. You tell me.

      • rice says:

You asked me a question. If you can’t or won’t clarify it’s meaning that’s up to you. And if you choose not to then one must wonder why you asked the question in the first place.

      • Hey, you’re the fella who wants a post bitching about a religious Jew who’s done nothing wrong. & the person who can’t answer a straight question.
So I’m guessing you have no point.

      • rice says:

Don’t be a dunce. If you don’t want your questioned answered then why did you ask it?

Blankfein is a religious jew and scoundrel whose greed has brought the world to this economic disaster. There is a prison cell waiting for him. Meanwhile Dave Silverman blogs about … , oh yeh, xmas advertising and jesus iron-ons.

      • Don’t be a dunce.

I’m not. I asked you a direct question. I require evidence.

If you don’t want your questioned answered then why did you ask it?

That’s a ridiculous response. I asked you a straight question, which you try to squirm out of.

Blankfein is a religious jew and scoundrel whose greed has brought the world to this economic disaster.

All by his little lonesome? You got proof for any of that? He up on charges?
All your blather tells me you got nothin’.

      Lincoln’s Thanksgiving Proclamation
      Washington, DC—October 3, 1863

      By Abraham Lincoln

“The year that is drawing toward its close has been filled with the blessings of fruitful fields and healthful skies. To these bounties, which are so constantly enjoyed that we are prone to forget the source from which they come, others have been added which are of so extraordinary a nature that they can not fail to penetrate and soften even the heart which is habitually insensible to the ever-watchful providence of Almighty God.

“In the midst of a civil war of unequaled magnitude and severity, which has sometimes seemed to foreign states to invite and to provoke their aggression, peace has been preserved with all nations, order has been maintained, the laws have been respected and obeyed, and harmony has prevailed everywhere, except in the theater of military conflict, while that theater has been greatly contracted by the advancing armies and navies of the Union.

“Needful diversions of wealth and of strength from the fields of peaceful industry to the national defense have not arrested the plow, the shuttle, or the ship; the ax has enlarged the borders of our settlements, and the mines, as well as the iron and coal as of our precious metals, have yielded even more abundantly than heretofore. Population has steadily increased notwithstanding the waste that has been made in the camp, the siege, and the battlefield, and the country, rejoicing in the consciousness of augmented strength and vigor, is permitted to expect continuance of years with large increase of freedom.

“No human counsel hath devised nor hath any mortal hand worked out these great things. They are the gracious gifts of the Most High God, who, while dealing with us in anger for our sins, hath nevertheless remembered mercy.

“It has seemed to me fit and proper that they should be solemnly, reverently, and gratefully acknowledged, as with one heart and one voice, by the whole American people. I do therefore invite my fellow-citizens in every part of the United States, and also those who are in foreign lands, to set apart and observe the last Thursday of November next as a day of thanksgiving and praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the heavens. And I recommend to them that while offering up the ascriptions justly due to Him for such singular deliverances and blessings they do also, with humble penitence for our national perverseness and disobedience, commend to His tender care all those who have become widows, orphans, mourners, or sufferers in the lamentable civil strife in which we are unavoidably engaged, and fervently implore the imposition of the Almighty hand to heal the wounds of the nation and to restore it, as soon as may be consistent with the divine purpose, to the full enjoyment of peace, harmony, tranquillity, and union.

“In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the United States to be affixed.”

Done at the city of Washington, this 3rd day of October, A.D. 1863, and of the Independence of the United States the eighty-eighth.

Clear proof of our president addressing the Christian God. I can only imagine how this would be received in today’s society.

So your point is that Lincoln was a christian? What other stunning revelations do you have? The moon is far away?

      • phreedm says:

Gee Sham…try thinking outside of your cardboard box…the answer is staring you in the face.

  4. gary Mueller says:

Based on quotes from Mr. Lincoln that espouses his disbelief in cartoon gods and zombie lords I think the following explains the wording of the proclamation. ““It is necessary to the happiness of man, that he be mentally faithful to himself. Infidelity does not consist in believing, or in disbelieving; it consists in professing to believe what he does not believe.”
    – Thomas Paine (1737-1809), The Age of Reason, I (1794)

  5. Lincoln was also into the man-goods – so maybe that means we should all get our gay on.

  6. Chris B says:

I’m not sure what our (atheists’) response should be. Praise Gap for mentioning the solstice in their original commercial, thus inviting more boycotts upon them? Boycotting them for their xmas message commercial? How exactly does any of this change the world in our favor? Can we ever expect a mass retailer to not market to xians during an xian religious festival where they spend thousands of dollars at a time?

The american fascist council may have scared Gap’s marketing guys with this boycott, but I doubt we could gain anything from taking a similar path. The AFC grows when they can convince xians they are being persecuted (i.e. non-christian beliefs mentioned in xmas ads = obvious persecution!).

On the other hand, our only path to growth is at the grassroots organizing level. Thus, our productive activities will always be different than theirs. My other conclusion is that we have inherently more potential to provide value to our members than the AFC has for theirs.

  7. Becky Walker ladyrebecca says:

Oh. My. God. The AFA never ceases to amaze me with the things they are willing to get their panties in a bunch about. Seriously, seriously, never ceased to be amazed. Hopefully they have a great time spending their money on secular companies during their holiday of massive consumption. Because if it wasn’t about massive consumption, then they wouldn’t care how companies advertised because they’d be giving all of their money away to those less fortunate than them. Instead, they want to make sure they feel good about ever dollar they spend buying crap their kids don’t need. Sounds like a great Christian holiday. Hope they enjoy it.
