Shooting at Fort Hood

American Atheists is deeply saddened to hear of the tragic events involving our soldiers at Ft Hood. Our VP and Military Director Kathy Johnson is stationed there and is unharmed. At this point, we know very little, but we have confidence in our military to secure the base and ensure the safety of our troops.

UPDATE: According to Kathy, who is a crime scene investigator and on the scene in Ft. Hood, this does appear to be a religiously motivated event. The investigation continues.

Thanks. I knew Kathleen worked there so I’m glad to hear she is fine but saddened by the events.

Fox News is rolling out the hate already. In speaking with Sen. Hutchison about the suspect Maj. Malik Nadal Hasan, Shepard Smith asked, “The name says a lot, does it not, Senator?” To which she replied, “It does, it does, Shepard.” *wink-wink* *nudge-nudge*
Jonathan Hunt had this to add later on Fox, “That name may hint at certain things.”
Would they have been doing the wink and nudge if it had been a Christian? Of course not.

But it wasn’t a christian or a jew, hindu, atheist or anything else it was a muslim. This is not the first time a muslim soldier has turned on his fellow soldiers it happened some yrs ago in kuwait.Security forces can’t ignore this anymore than they should ignore that jews have a history of spying for israel. To do so would be irresponsible.

The shooter was born in Virginia and listed “No religious preference” on his personnel records. It a appears that he was a physician – the media is writing that he is a psychiatrist – and served in the military for 14 years.

I’ll give 10 to 1 odds that this man, because of his ethnicity, was treated like absolute dog shit in our xian infested right wing military.

Right, and there were certainly no ideological or theological differences between atheist tyrants like Stalin, Mao and Pot and the millions they butchered. Nope, the blood on their hands was the result of purely secular, “territorial” struggles…

In the co-mingled sense that you’re using “religion,” no, not at all. Christianity, as found in the Bible, is, first and foremost, a personal relationship with Christ–not a religious one. What you would consider to be “religious” behaviors derived from that relationship are, in reality, voluntary ones borne of a grateful response to Christ’s saving grace—not the dictates of a capricious god.

        A waste of resources.

Again, absolutely not. The accurate, eyewitness accounts of the life and teachings of Christ in the Bible make it possible to more fully realize the potential of that relationship.

      • Christianity, as found in the Bible, is, first and foremost, a personal relationship with Christ–not a religious one.

Relationships w/imaginary people are usually considered a sign of mental illness.

Oh, riiiggghhtt…’believe or burn’. Real voluntary, that.

        Again, absolutely not.

Absolutely so. Indulging oneself in questionable based on the capricious desires of a dictator deity who doesn’t exist is a waste on every level.

The accurate, eyewitness accounts of the life and teachings of Christ in the Bible

I was wrong. Repeating the same daft bullshit constantly doesn’t seem to lose it’s hilarity.

Must we give them access to our most sensitive positions? Talk about sleeping with the enemy!

I didn’t write that he isn’t a muslim and indeed it does appear that he is a muslim. It also appears that he was a excellent and caring psychiatrist with 14 years of service to his country. So what could drive such a man to such acts? Being tormented by xians to go off and support the killing of muslims in an unjust war motivated by the religious-based hate of US xians is high on the list.

Hi, I’m new here. Just wondered if you’d heard the NPR report stating that Dr. Hasan actually had a fairly poor record of service at Walter Reed. He had been reviewed for poor performance, after which he shaped up somewhat, so they sent him to Fort Hood hoping he would do better there. Additionally, patients had formally complained that Hasan was proselytizing. Dogma is dogma, whether it be Christian, Muslim, or Humanist. Let’s discuss the “religion” card. I’m convinced that lifelong indoctrination of any dogma has a powerful effect on the brain. I hope someone is doing research in this area.

The carnage is over and now the prayers will begin, “oh jesus be with the family’s” “lord of mercy be with us.”
But where was jesus and allah, jehovah and thor while the shooting was going on?
The christians say god gave us free will, so the major used his free will to butcher over a dozen and wound many more, but the victims were denied their free will, I would be willing to bet if a poll was taken, we would push to 100 percentile in the I would rather not be butchered category. So where were the super friends. If you are a believer this should be a cause for concern, you go to your lord in prayer after the fact and ask it to do things for which no evidence exists will ever be done.
If your a non believer you might want to send a card to the victims family’s and let them know real people are thinking of them.

    • avatar jcc says:

Maintaining His gift of free will to all.

How sweet the gift that results in murder.

        By the shooter–NOT GOD.

As I understand you, the “free will” of the murderer takes priority over the “free will” of the victim according to the way in which your God has created “free will?” You’re right, that is a true gift from your God, and certainly what one would expect of a just and loving God such as yours.

More dazzling and impeccable use of logic by atheists whose superior use of “reason” makes them irrefutably, “real people”…

More condescending, sarcastic vomit from another morally bankrupt “true” Christian. It seems your petty, irrelevant commentary continues to expose you as the typically angry, fundamentalist incapable of debating without resorting to school yard name calling. What a mental midget. (and yes, I never said I was above name calling)

From your posts as of late, JCC, I expect to see you flying a plane into a building somewhere any day now.

      • Maintaining His gift of free will to all.

Nobody there, so that’s a good laugh.

      • avatar jcc says:

How sweet the gift that results in murder.

Oh dear. No, it’s a natural consequence of that gift (how sad that this simple concept proves to be so elusive to “free-thinkers”).

As I understand you, the “free will” of the murderer takes priority over the “free will” of the victim according to the way in which your God has created “free will?

Uh no. This isn’t complicated: if everyone has free will, then by definition, everyone is free to do as they wish—including killing unarmed, innocent people—there are no “priorities” involved.

You’re right, that is a true gift from your God, and certainly what one would expect of a just and loving God such as yours.

Yes, the equal distribution of free will is exactly what a just and loving God would give us—because that’s being consistent.

More condescending, sarcastic vomit from another morally bankrupt “true” Christian.

Condescending, sarcastic—you bet; “morally bankrupt”?—prove it.

It seems your petty, irrelevant commentary continues to expose you as the typically angry, fundamentalist incapable of debating without resorting to school yard name calling.

“Irrelevant?” Yeah, ain’t it funny how the threads I post on consistently have the highest volume on this blog? “Incapable of debating without resorting to school yard name calling?” Right, my posts are just dripping with puerile epithets. My, what a firm and amazingly reliable grip on reality you have…

What a mental midget. (and yes, I never said I was above name calling)

(and you’ve never behaved as if you were)… Yeah, I guess I am a “mental midget,”… but again, ain’t it funny how I can consistently end up chappin’ your butt? So, how ya suppose such a deficient person can always manage to do that to such a towering giant of intelligence like you?…

From your posts as of late, JCC, I expect to see you flying a plane into a building somewhere any day now.

Yeah… better watch yourself… Lately, I’ve really been itchin’ to twist-off and do something like that—in fact, i-if I had moderation privileges here, I-I’m certain I’d be altering the posts of individuals I absolutely despise a-and in some cases, actually resort to deleting my own embarrassing posts. A-and then, sometimes, just hover like a gnat around conversations involving individuals I absolutely despise a-and drop in embarrassingly idiotic little posts—just to feed my obsessive compulsion to feel relevant here…

      • I-I’m certain I’d be altering the posts of individuals I absolutely despise a-and in some cases, actually resort to deleting my own embarrassing posts

Okay, this has gone on long enough. Once I do a full exposition, hopefully you’ll have enough self-awareness to be embarrassed. But it’s doubtful.
After I altered your one post (3 whole letters – horrors!), I had the bright idea of deleting my own posts, so it would look like you were talking to yourself. But that seemed inadequate. Then it hit me.
So I flamed you twice on 1 of your favorite topics – atheism as religion – & when you responded as expected, I deleted my posts. You responded quite predictably. Knowing full well that you were keeping an eye on the situation, I deleted your post. Your response could be seen a mile away.
& not only did you respond as expected, you’ve mentioned it several times, including here, as if it were some sort of victory, when in actuality, I manipulated you to behave the way you have.
In short, you have been pwned.
Which is why I now call you ‘little mouse’. I managed to trick the mouse into thinking it was a cat, to the extent that it squeaks @ the moon & claims it’s howling.

FORT HOOD, Texas — The base commander at Fort Hood says soldiers who witnessed a shooting rampage that left 13 people dead reported that the gunman shouted “Allahu Akbar!” before opening fire at the Texas post.

Lt. Gen. Robert Cone told NBC’s “Today” show on Friday that suspected shooter, Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, made the comment, which is Arabic for “God is great!” before the rampage Thursday that also left 30 people wounded.

By the time He heard gunfire, it was too late. The old “free will” excuse is just that-old and used up. “Free will” can now be equated with negligence, sadism, and intentionally pitting his “children” against each other. Wow!
