VOTE Tomorrow

Or did you already vote? Well, if you didn’t, don’t forget!

I am a single issue voter, said issue being Separation of Church and State. You should be too, in my opinion, but this is not enough. We must be OUT AND LOUD single-issue voters. Politicians need to know that above and beyond all the crap they are spewing, the vote goes to the person who supports our Constitution with the most vigor.

It should be noted that C/S Separation is a very broad issue that encompasses other issues like gay rights, stem cell research, and in most cases the right to choose (exceptions noted). So it’s one issue, but it’s a very big issue.

Vote well, vote early, and if anyone asks you, tell them you voted single-issue. This is how we establish a voting bloc!

Agreed…..this one issue is at the core for many issues that effect the not religious every god damn day…

      November 3

In a Radio Address, NOVEMBER 3, 1924, President Calvin Coolidge
      stated:

“I therefore urge upon all the voters of our country, without
reference to party, that they assemble…at their respective voting
places in the exercise of the high office of American citizenship,
that they approach the ballot box in the spirit that they would
      approach a sacrament,

and there, disregarding all appeals to passion and prejudice,
dedicate themselves truly and wholly to the welfare of their
      country.”

      Calvin Coolidge continued:

“When an election is so held, it…sustains the belief that the voice
of the people is the voice of God.”

Commenting on political candidates, Alexis de Tocqueville wrote in
      Democracy in America, 1835:

“If a political character attacks a (religious) sect, this may not
prevent even the partisans of that very sect from supporting him; but
if he attacks all the sects together, every one abandons him and he
      remains alone…

Moreover, all the sects of the United States are comprised within the
      great unity of Christianity.”

You betcha I voted as always and that issue is critical. The nutters came close to winning this but for now sanity prevailed. They weasel their way around but no matter what the hell they call it’s religion in schools.

I am new to this site and do not intend to link to my site as I have once before but I do so here because it has links to most of the story.

What’s important is they did not win!

I always vote for the candidates who best represent church/state separation and gay rights. This years Chapel Hill mayoral frontrunner is openly gay Mark Kleinscmidt. Unfortunatley I have to vote in our local megachurch so as always I plan to wear my t shirt with the word “Atheist” printed on it.

    • phreedm says:

So which is more important Alex…for your candidate to be queer? Or for them to be an atheist?

I’m betting you’d vote for an openly gay Episcopalian over a rabid atheist.

    • Dorky Mommy says:

That is a good idea. I’m going to get one of those shirts, too.

My town in California has too many churches, too much religion, and not enough thinking people. We fight the good fight, but it is very discouraging. The City Attorney and I had an interesting discussion about the city council opening their meetings with prayer. She said the prayer comes before the mayor calls them to order, so it is “private”, and not official. I say that if they pray in City Hall, it should not be allowed. They think they have everything covered by having one Buddhist a year offer a prayer. I asked her if I could get on the approved list and sacrifice a dove to Artemis, but she said “no”. Oh well.

Single voter issue? Hmmm…taking a look at New Jersey shows the disastrous results when closed minded individuals take their eye off of the larger picture…

New Jersey is one of the most expensive places to live in the nation…tell me Dave. Are your property taxes less then $5000.00 per year? I know they aren’t. You’re spending $100.00 per week just to live in the armpit of Amercia…how’s that for a single issue approach?

Your single issue approach is going to spell the end of Corsine, and begin the restoration of America in 2010 and 2012. Just like 1993 all over again. Here in VA, the dems are going to lose big.

    • reason says:

The republicans have a good ticket in VA.The budget is going to be a huge task with medicaid and transportation maintainence deficits.

      • bigsam says:

The GOP is dying! Whatever happens tomorrow the GOP is still dying. Soon it will just be a matter of when to take them off life support. Moderates are leaving the party and the party continues its spiral to greater extremes thereby pushing more voters away and on and on …. Soon all that will be left is Sarah Palin.

  5. reason says:

Economy, crime, property rights, gun rights, illegal aliens are whats on people minds as they watch the American dream crumble not social issues like abortion or gay marriage.

  6. G.L.A.Y. says:

“and in most cases the right to choose (exceptions noted).”

    What exceptions?

  7. bigsam says:

One issue voting is childish and plain stupid.

I am a lifelong atheist, live in New Jersey and I gotta say, Phreedom’s dead on here. Anyone who thinks religion is a bigger problem than taxes in NJ shouldn’t be allowed to vote. I would love to separate the fiscal conservatives from the religious kookies, then voting would be simple, however reality doesn’t work that way.

Me, I’m for Daggett for Governor, who is a fiscal conservative and doesn’t make religion an issue on way or the other which is the way it should be.

    • bigsam says:

Fiscal conservatives are not what the economy needs right now. We are up against the interest rate zero bound and the paradox of thrift. The economy will tank even worse than it already has and effectively permanent damage will be done to industry if more government spending does not occur and soon. Anybody that touts fiscal conservative ideology at this time simply does not understand the basics of economics and is inviting their own economic destruction!
