HallowEVILeen!

“[M]ost of the candy sold during this season has been dedicated and prayed over by witches,” Daniels wrote. “I do not buy candy during the Halloween season. Curses are sent through the tricks and treats of the innocent whether they get it by going door to door or by purchasing it from the local grocery store. The demons cannot tell the difference.”

Yes it’s that time again. Time for everyone to have fun except for the Christians, who must try their best to get in the way, preach to your children, and protest anyone having fun without their god involved.

After all, Halloween is the only celebrated holiday in America that has non-christian roots AND has not been successfully co-opted by Christianity, so that’s right out if you’re so insecure about your mythology that you can’t even stomach giving candy to kids.

Oh, and talk about crazy? The above article, you may noticed, is cached, because the original has been removed from the CBN web site. Apparently they didn’t want their true craziness to be shown. THANKS GOOGLE!

Christians need to realize that Halloween is just as Pagan as Christmas and Easter. The only problem is that “All Saints Day” didn’t stick, so now they are trying to make Halloween a “currently religious” holiday (as opposed to a holiday with religious roots that is now secular) so they can protest it.

But this day is not about religion or dogma. It’s about fun and candy. So have a little more fun, and give a little extra candy this year to make up for those party-pooping fear-mongors who will have and give neither.

Near here the Amish put a buggy on the top of a building on Halloween. Nobody knows how they get it up there.
We don’t give out candy on Halloween, not because it was probably prayed over by witches, whose prayers are every bit as effective as Christian prayers, but because there are some in this town who feel they can go door to door even though they are obviously way past the age limit. They elbow the little ones out, demanding more than just a fair share.
I remember my own halloween adventures, during a time when you really didn’t worry that some creep was going to grab you.

Once again…a slip of the tongue. Nice for you to admit the importance that religion (Christianity) played in founding America’s holidays…

And speaking of Christianity molding a nation…

According to the World Christian Encyclopedia, about 17 million Africans described themselves as born-again Christians in 1970. Today the figure has soared to more than 400 million, which accounts for roughly 19 per cent of the continent’s population.

I wonder how many atheists live in Africa…?

      • augustine2 says:

And how are those african countries doing? Its arguable that many are worse off then they were when they first got their independence.

Religion made special dates, and nobody misses a party. The fact that many of the religious holidays are celebrated is a phenomina more of human celebration and less of inate christianity. If christmas did not have presents and a feast, it would be like palm sunday or ash wednesday. Last time I checked, mardi gras was way more popular than either.

If you want to extole the virtues and life changing power of xianity to mold a nation (BTW AFrica isnt a nation, its a continent of many nations) I wouldnt ask people to look to Africa as your success story. There has never been a more failed or chaotic place in the world. Having said this I would point you to Sweden and Denmark, two of the most atheistic nations on earth, which are models of success on most measures of societal health.

Ah…what a perfect example of twisting facts to meet an agenda. Yes, you’re correct that many nations are worse off since they received their independence, it that has nothing to do with religion. It has everything to do with corrupt politicians….

        Nice try though….

        October 31

Upon signing the Declaration of Independence, Samuel Adams stated:

“This day, I trust, the reign of political protestantism will
        commence.”

The 56 signers were mostly Protestant, with a notable exception being
        Catholic Charles Carroll of Maryland.

New York University Professor Emeritus Patricia Bonomi, in her
article “The Middle Colonies as the Birthplace of American Religious
        Pluralism” wrote:

“The colonists were about 98 percent Protestant.”

The DoI is not the controlling legal document. The Constitution, a SECULAR instrument, framing a SECULAR government is the LEGAL polestar, not the DoI. Madison, Franklin, Washington, among other framers, were DEISTS, not xtians. Jefferson, a non-frmaer, but Author of the DoI,and author of the Letter to the Danbury Baptists referencing “the Wall of Separation”, was also a deist who was DERISIVE of the divinity of je-zeus: “…and the day will come when the mystical generation of jesus by the Supreme being , as his father, in the womb of a virgin will be classed with the FABLE of the generation of Minerva in the brain of Jupiter. But we may hope that the DAWN of REASON and FREEDOM of THOUGHT in these United States will DO AWAY with all this ARTIFICIAL scaffolding…” Jefferson 1823 letter to John Adams

The original point was “… Christianity molding a nation…”
The fact is that the nations of Africa ARE unstable and with those statistics, you’d think religion would have some influence on the current situation, negative or positive.

Stating numbers doesn’t give it any more power. At some point, the mass majority assumed the planet was flat.

So, I guess the question is indeed “How many Atheists live in Africa?”. Probably not enough if they can’t rationally consider setting aside differences for a moral higher ground.

Blogs, like anything else have peaks and valleys. In time we shall see a resurgence of comments by atheists and loonies. I just come in and see what the topic is, read the comments and then go about diminishing the belief in gods one person at a time.

I don’t think this can be explained by some natural cycle. Blog popularities don’t cycle like home sales (in a stable market). Blogs come and go because they are poorly run or because the blogger is “exposed” in some sense.

Frankly, I think Ellen Johnson’s dismissal and a poorly managed American Atheists has a lot to do with this blog’s demise.

I would say we are not extreme in our atheist ways, My peek in being an active atheist comes and goes, I don’t worship atheism every day or what not, so it’s simple to wander off for awhile, Since Ellen left? I love the new website, facebook and changes that seems to happen during her departure, sometimes your leadership needs to changes in order for fresh new ideas and growth to happen.

In the Military a Commander is only in Command for 2 yrs then a new one comes in, Why do you ask? new minds, ideas, growth..

      • bigsam says:

The website is terrible now! If the military was at all worthy of emulation at AA then you should be calling for General Silverman’s retirement.

      Happy Birthday!!!

I’m still around; thanks for thinking of me. I’ve just had little computer time b/c of preparing for, going through and recovering from my divorce settlement trial. Now I’m working almost constantly on cleaning up and cleaning out my house so it can be put on the market. A daunting task.

When I have checked on the blog, I’ve found myself uninspired to say much. Maybe I’ll get back into it soon.

I hope everything is okay for you Karen……I divorced after 24 years and have since remarried now for a wonderful 3….
