JEFF SHARLET, the acclaimed author and investigative journalist who exposed the notorious “Christian Mafia” operating out of Washington, DC ( http://www.democracynow.org/2009/8/12/sharlet : see also: http://www.rickross.com/reference/fundamentalists/fund196.html ) will speak at the 36th annual National Convention of American Atheists slated for April 2-4, 2010 in Newark/New York City.

Mr. Sharlet is the New York Times best selling author of The Family: The Secret Fundamentalism at the Heart of American Power, described by Barbara Ehrenreich as “one of the most compelling and brilliantly researched exposes you’ll ever read.” Sharlet is also the author of a forthcoming collection of essays titled What They Wanted, co-author, with Peter Manseau, of a travelogue of belief and unbelief in America titled Killing the Buddha: A Heretic’s Bible, and co-editor with Manseau of Believer, Beware: First-Person Dispatches from the Margins of Faith. Sharlet is a contributing editor for Harper’s magazine and Rolling Stone and has also written for The New Republic, The Nation, Mother Jones, Columbia Journalism Review, The Washington Post, and many other publications. He has commented on politics and religion for “The Rachel Maddow Show,” “The Daily Show,” “Hardball,” “Democracy Now,” NPR, BBC, CNN, and NBC Nightly News.
