A Catholic diocese based in the state of Delaware has filed for US bankruptcy protection on the eve of a civil trial involving high-profile sex abuse.
The move automatically delays the case, the seventh of its kind in the US since a scandal in Boston seven years ago.
The bishop of the diocese said the move offered the best chance for victims of sexual abuse to be treated fairly.
But an attorney for the victims said the action was a desperate attempt to hide the truth from the public.
Yes, lets treat the harmed people fairly by declaring insolvency and hiding our documents.

My advice to the judge: convert to Chapter 7, liquidate the diocese unless the multi-BILLION dollar Vatican wants to rescue them (remember, shuffling the priests was part of Benedict’s plan), and pay the victims handsomely so this crap actually stops. The US Court system is not a tool for criminals to use to hide from the law.

Yes, obviously heavy fines don’t deter the RCC, as long as those fines are heavy to you and me, and microscopic to the RCC.
The more we find out about sexual abuse in the clergy, the more we find out about how the law is being selectively enforced, and that so many sexual predators are being protected because they’re members of the clergy.
It would be nice if one Congressperson were to spearhead some REAL investigation, up the ladder in these churches, and throw some weight around on behalf of the victims, instead of rushing to protect religion no matter the crime. It’s mind-boggling how elected officials are actually afraid to take on the issue, as if there’s something to be gained from sexual abuse – if it comes from a clergy member.
If I lived in Delaware, that church would be hearing from me and my picket sign.
Seeing ethical and Catholic in the same sentence is hilarious. Catholicism is obviously a cult that was created so that it’s members could commit any and all grievous manner of immoralities and still go to heaven by confessing. With it’s rituals and laughable clothing designs it is one of the most archaic cults in existence.
Perhaps the courts will be effective at dissolving this nightmarish religious cult.
