    Sounds fun.

Cool! It’ll be nice to see the return of the Atheist Viewpoint tv show. I hope yall archive it on the AV website real quick.

Wish I could attend! Have fun! :o )

  4. avatar dw says:

According to many locals in my town I am blasphemous everyday.

  5. avatar Weak says:

Got a question. Who are you committing blashephemy about if you don’t beliwve in God?

  6. avatar aaronwhiston says:

What a GREAT idea. This is some real activism and it sounds fun.

Keep up the fantastic work folks! :)

  7. avatar Tregg says:

Yeah, I agree with Weak. What exactly are you guys gonna do? I mean who or what are you going to blaspheme? Don’t you know that in doing this your only acknowledging that which you profess to not believe in???????

    • It’s to make a point, not a nod to some ‘higher power’.
Really, do you people ever stop & think 1st, or do you just blurt out whatever’s on your alleged mind?

      • avatar Weak says:

Please explain your point. The act of blasphemy is to offer indignity to God through use of signs, words, writings, videos etc… You don’t believe in God? Do you guys ever stop and think or do you always do things out of blind follwing.

      • avatar Tregg says:

Yeah… what IS the point? Seriously, could you explain?

(KA You really don’t have to get so upset (personal attacks and all). You seem like a very angry person. I could be mistaken though.)

      • Weak:

The act of blasphemy is to offer indignity to God through use of signs, words, writings, videos etc…

The point is, that nothing untoward will occur because of it. There won’t be any retribution, because nobody’s up there.

        Tregg:

You seem like a very angry person. I could be mistaken though.

You haven’t been right yet. Batting average of exactly zero thus far. Why spoil a roll?

      • avatar joe zamecki says:

How could you not get the point of this? We’re told not to blaspheme other people’s gods, and at least a few nations have outlawed it.

Well we’re not religious, so we see blasphemy laws as not only dishonest, and inhumane, but also unnecessary. Those laws are worthy of mocking and violating immediately.

The fact that we CAN do all this these days, safely, is worth celebrating.

It’s like a child is trying to control us, and in some places in the world, that child has way too much power. So we’re daring that child to strike out – so that humanity can take one last look at the dark ages in that child’s mind, before that child finally grows up.

If we don’t resist, or at least register our disagreement, those blasphemy laws could emerge in our own nation.

So when you add it all up, we speak out, we resist, we challenge, and we celebrate. All of that will take place on Blasphemy Days like this one.

The time to discourage speaking out about gods and religions we don’t have is over. It’s safer to speak out now. So why help the religious by keeping quiet?

(Seriously, it’s so odd to hear someone ask us why we speak out like this. I once picketed George Bush, but I certainly didn’t believe in him! lol)

      • avatar Shodan06 says:

        Blasphemy is a victimless crime…

      • avatar dw says:

Blasphemy doesn’t even have to be a conscious effort. Merely a statement which conflicts with religious principles is enough for some to cry blasphemy. If I wanted to commit blasphemy I would say something like there is no Holy Ghost.

        There is no Holy Ghost.

  8. avatar joe zamecki says:

Okay now I think I figured out the confusion.

With Blasphemy Day, we’re going on and on about a certain law. The law is the focus. We’ll speak about religion and gods, but the purpose of that day is to focus on a particular law.

The law exists. There’s no confusion over that.

I can see how it might look silly for us to have a whole day of activities focused on a god-idea. We sometimes do that anyway, but Blasphemy Day is more about that law.

When a blasphemy law is passed, it’s like an outward attack by religion, against all other religions and Atheism. They’ll probably never use it against someone who is devoutly part of the religion featuring the god in question, because if they’re devout in that religion, they probably won’t blaspheme. These laws are obviously for people of OTHER religions, and no religion.

Every single religious and non-religious person who speaks out once in a while should oppose a law like that. We seem to be the only ones in the US of A who take this very seriously. In Europe, it’s becoming unavoidable.

We’re not shaking our fists in the air at God. Yes, that would be silly. This is about a very real law that will be used against very real people. The purpose is as solid and realistic as any law ever can be.

    • avatar Weak says:

Finally, there is some reason explained which actually makes sense.Just so all of you know, I think that religion is also vile. I think that religion kills and is idolatry(sin). BTW the Bible tells us so. In this case you have the UN passing a law on behalf of the muslim religion. The USA shouldn’t be in the UN anyway. Its like being a club member that consists of the Star Wars bar scene participants. Also, Christianity is not a religion.

  9. avatar Tregg says:

    Joe Zamecki
    Thanks for explaining.

  10. avatar Yahweh says:

Weak and Tregg: Blasphemy, like beauty ( and truth of ones’ opinions, including religious BELIEFS) is in the eye of the beholder.

So, I take “pride” in blaspheming Zeus, Jupiter, Minerva, Athena, Thor , Woden, Odin,Krishna, Vishnu, Ra, Baal, Allah, YHVH, and babee je-zeus(BTW when babee je-zeus crapped his swaddling clothes was it a “holy act”, you know “holy sh*t?)and any other diety imagined by earthlings!
One of my favorites is,”Stick thine punk-boy, je-zeus, firmly and deeply up thine arse!”

  11. avatar reason says:

While AA is focused on Basphemy day the real threat to American Atheism goes ignored’irrelevance’.AA is and honorable org.that has fought the good fight but to stay relevant it must shift gears and offer a vision of a better America resulting from Atheism plus something but what?.If the christian based culture here fades and it appears to be,what replaces it for it is certain something else will fill the void.

  12. avatar godless sodomite says:

    Everyday is blasphemy day here.

  13. avatar Charlie says:

would yelling out a moving vehicle window “Fuck You Religion” at a currently uninhabited place of worship, while holding out your middle finger in disgust over religion’s daily bullshit …be considered blasphemy?

in your face stupid religion….get your nonsense out of the public square….

    blasphemy…..fu

What is a de-baptism? Is it an actual ceremony type deal? If so what occurs?

    • avatar joe zamecki says:

It’s an actual ceremony type deal, yes. Here’s a video of the de-baptism I organized and took part in: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z0Yn6vjktN0

For many ex-Christians, de-baptism is a mild form of closure. Many of us were baptized without our consent or understanding of what it meant. For such an important occasion, we find it bizarre that Christians don’t usually think the person being baptized needs to even understand what’s going on.

This time we do. Plus we like to have fun, and religion provides a good bit of comedy material.

      • avatar ashtoreth says:

Very painful if you were baptized as jewish male. You will have to get your foreskin back.

      • avatar joe zamecki says:

Umm…Jews aren’t the only ones who circumcise their boys. Which leads me to ask a question I’ve been wondering. Which religion discourages circumcision for boys? I can’t think of a single one.

One would think that since circumcision usually takes place in a hospital, that Christian Scientists would oppose it. The mind wobbles…

      • avatar ashtoreth says:

I really don’t know what religions discourage circumcisions. Why would the Christian Scientists would oppose it, anyway?

      • avatar ashtoreth says:

Wait… I didn’t remember… you are right. Christian Scientists do not go to hospitals.

It occurs to me that basphemy is ridicule of god(s). I am in favor of making it an event, to speak clearly to the faces of those who accuse us, that their opinion doesn’t matter, and we are guilty of what they accuse us in their limited perception, but, we will continue to speak freely without regard to their sensitivity. Pandering to the religious is a job for politicians, but, we are freethinkers trying to open the eyes of the world. Ne’er the tween shall meet.
