The primary focus of the Blasphemy Day movement and indeed this website is not to debate the existence of any gods or deities (there is an abundance of fantastic websites which deal explicitly with that argument all over the internet, check the Web Links section).

The objective of International Blasphemy Day is to open up all religious beliefs to the same level of free inquiry, discussion and criticism to which all other areas of academic interest are subjected.

Why September 30? The last day in September is the anniversary of the original publication of Danish cartoons in 2005 depicting the prophet Muhammad’s face. Any visual depiction of Muhammad is considered a grave offense under Islamic law.

And a happy day it is! Here in America, we still have freedom of expression and freedom of religion — today is the day to use that freedom!

Blasphemy is not just ‘not a crime’, it is a public service. It is patriotic. It helps your country and your fellow human to be blasphemous, hear blasphemy, and know that all religions are worthy of ridicule.

I now, once again, admit to committing blasphemy against all gods. Religion is mythology. Gods are lies. Preachers are liars (yes, all of them), and anyone who believes in magic men in the sky are fools.

Please take a moment to commit blasphemy today. Change your status message on Facebook or MySpace to something blasphemous. Wear an atheist pin. Come out of the closet a little more.

Make it known… and make it loud.

Happy Yom Kippour. The Jewish Day of Atonement. Basically, Yahweh’s got a book of Life, in which he places all the names of people that will live for the next year. On Rosh Hashanah, he opens the book, and on Yom Kippour, he closes it.

Isn’t that special? As an aside, the Book of Life is not in any way related to the Cereal of Life or the Game of Life.

In NJ, the population is 4% Jewish. Let’s pretend that 75% actually believe in God and give two-bits about Yom Kippour, so let’s say 3%. My kid’s school has about 500 kids, so in the whole school we have 15 religious-enough Jews.

For those 15 kids, the entire school shuts down. You see, Christmas is a Christian holiday that is also a national Holiday, so we all HAVE to take it off. The Jews complained, and now, even though they are a huge minority, we all have to take their “High Holy” days off too. This means people MUST take the day off from work to care for their kids, who are home for no good reason. Ergo, Christians are being forced to celebrate someone else’s holiday, whether they like it or not.

Merry Christmas.

The RIGHT thing to do is to float all holidays, and make Christmas a religious holiday and not a national holiday. Yah. That’ll happen real soon. But making MORE religious holidays to keep schools politically covered starts them down a slippery slope. Who is next? Moslems? Hindus?

The U.S. Supreme Court is gearing up to come back into session Oct. 5, and just in time for that, Justice Antonin Scalia has decided to pop off in the media about how much he hates church-state separation – again!

In what is billed as an “Historic Exclusive Interview” in the Brooklyn-based Orthodox Jewish newspaper Hamodia, Scalia attacks one of the core concepts of church-state separation – the idea that government must remain neutral between religion and non-religion.

To Scalia, this is all stuff and nonsense. He believes the government should be able to prefer religion. Government neutrality on religious matters, he says, “is not an accurate representation of what Americans believe.”

This is the very reason why need need to be one-issue voters. This is why it’s important. This man is in the 5-4 minority. one shift, and we lose equality.

Comfort and Cameron really want your attention. They can’t do it with logic and common sense (they have none) so they are modifying the Origin of the Species by adding a 50-page introduction for the book, linking evolution to Hitler and other evils of society.

These two are probably the least respected babble-thumpers in the known Universe. After the disgrace of “Bananaman” (it’s like God’s can opener!) and the absolute trouncing these guys endured in their debate with the Rational Response Squad, they are desperate for more funds, so they are pulling this stunt to bring in donors to their dwindling herd of sheep.

I pity these men. They are desperate to stay relevant against a growing sea of knowledge against the lifeless sands of superstition. Their livlihood is evaporating before their eyes, and so they pull stunts like this. It’s a little bit pathetic, and, I must admit, a little fun to watch.
