It is puzzling as to why christians want to return to such a barbaric era.

Because during those barbaric times, christians were in control. If you weren’t a christian…well, we know how the Crusades and Inquisitions ended.

I think that this is the part of organized religion that has confused me the most…”We are tolerant people. If you don’t agree with us, we’ll kill you.”

So by praying, you authorize yourself to give cash…you can’t just give it because you can/want to? You could just skip a step and know that you’re allowed to do it because you have free will.

There is no institutional level of atheism. If you count organizations, like AA, FFRF, etc., they do charitable work. I have been called by various organized atheists (including bloggers) to give to those needing help. But atheism is more of an individual thing, not so much institutional. And I would bet that every- or just about every- individual atheist is altruistic. There’s always a misanthrope in the mix.

No. Christians, give cash because they’re empowered by prayer. But that’s beside the point; atheist altruism is virtually non-existent compared to that of Christians.

Oops. Guess I was doing atheism a disservice when I paid for the baby food items that the food stamps didn’t cover for the lady in front of me in the grocery line last week. Weird thing was, I didn’t think, “I’ll do this because I’m an atheist.” I just saw a need and happened to be able to help out. I apologize to my fellow atheists. Next time, I’ll holler, “Isn’t there a good Christian present to help this woman with her groceries?”
