Frustration with the Brainwashed

Thursday, May 14th, 2009

I did a radio show a few days ago called “JLP radio”, which is syndicated across the country. I expected it to be Christian, but I didn’t expect what I got.

The host was all about atheist stereotypes, asking me if I faced a tragedy when I became an atheist, or if I came from a broken home, or if I had ever read the bible. I was astounded by some of his ignorance. For instance, when I asked the simple question of “why does God let bad things happen to good people”, his response was “what good people?” I mentioned the Tsunami, the El Salvador mudslides, Hurricane Katrina, etc.

While the usual response to these questions is something like “god moves in mysterious ways”, from JLP I got “how do you know those people were good?” I was briefly speechless. I couldn’t believe that a man with a significant radio audience would question the “goodness” of every man, woman, and baby killed by natural disasters. He blamed the gays, the women, and of course, the atheists, for bringing god’s wrath upon them. And he was serious. Just as I started to get going, he cut me off and hung up on me.

I’ll do the show again if I am asked, but I will not be polite. Serious bigotry needs serious push-back, and this guy’s listeners need a dose of reality.

Dave and Kathleen Named VPs

Wednesday, May 13th, 2009

American Atheists President Ed Buckner announced today that the Board of
Directors has recently approved the appointment of two new leaders for
the organization, Kathleen Johnson as Vice President for the Western
United States and David Silverman as Vice President for the Eastern
United States. Both Silverman and Johnson are already members of the
board of directors and active leaders of the organization, but their
elevation and new titles are expected to help the organization put
emphasis on vigorous new ideas, fresh approaches, and broadened
leadership for the group.

Dear organized religion,

We’re coming to get you.

Love,

Dave and Kathleen.

Atheists and Christians — Advice for Roni

Monday, May 11th, 2009

Pat Robertson, the professional liar, gave some stereotypically bigoted and fearful advice to one of his viewers.

A Christian lady named Roni emailed his show and asked what she should do about her atheist fiance, and asked if there was a middle ground in which they could live. The Professional Liar’s response? Dump him.

The reason is simple — he doesn’t want any of his sheep talking with those of us who make sense. He fears us. Who knows? We might say something like…

Dear Roni,

Of course you can marry an atheist. I’ve been married to a theistic Jew for 18 years and we’ve never had a problem. Sure we discuss things, and on some issues we disagree, but as long as you talk a lot, set rules, and truly love each other as they ARE it can work out.

Make sure you talk about church, how you’ll raise your kids, and how you will celebrate the holidays. Iron out ALL the details before you marry. Make sure you love him for what he IS, not what you WISH him to be. The reverse is also true, of course – you must both accept for a FACT that the other person will NOT change during the marriage. Without that level of acceptance, the marriage will fail.

But if your love is for the man as he is now, and not for a fantasy fiance who converts to Christianity, the marriage can work. Only you know if you have that kind of love.

Yours Truly,
Dave

Jews Enter Contest and THEN Complain about the Rules

Sunday, May 10th, 2009

The refusal of the National High School Mock Trial Championship to accommodate Sabbath observances by Massachusetts’ winning team at its national championship in Atlanta this week has attracted the attention of the Department of Justice, which has formally notified Georgia authorities that they risk a federal investigation if the team is unable to compete.

The Justice letter notified David L. Ratley, director of the Administrative Office of the Courts of Georgia, that a formal complaint alleging potential religious discrimination had been filed in connection with the national championship, which will be held Friday and Saturday at the Fulton County Courthouse.

Um… No.

Sorry Jews, but if your religion forbids you from participating in a contest, don’t enter the contest. There was no requirement for the Jews to enter, they did not need it, and they had no right to inflict their mythology on the rest of the participants.

This is not about discrimination. If we look hard enough, we can find religions who have days off all during the week. Is the National High School Mock Trial Championship to change its rules to accommodate everyone’s myths? Should they not have the program during Ramadan? Passover? Diwali? No- religion is the adherents’ problem. If the Jews can’t compete because of their religious beliefs, well that’s fine, then they shouldn’t enter.

Observing a religion (and the extent to which it is observed) is CHOICE, as is participating in a contest. One choice does not take precedence over another, and a personal choice should not be inflicted on other people.

Christian School Tries Expected to Suspend Student for Attending Prom

Sunday, May 10th, 2009

In what appears to be a clip from an old bad movie, a Christian school is expected to suspend a student for attending a dance at ANOTHER school.

The kid is 17, and he wants to go to — get this — attend a prom with his girlfriend. It what will surely be a satanic mix of music, dancing, and perhaps even kissing or holding hands. Whoever heard of such a thing? A High School prom!

But no. Here comes the Heritage Christian School for the Intellectually Stunted Parents and Their Unfortunate Children in Findlay OH. This school prohibits such outrageous behavior, on and off campus! They will suspend this dastardly truant kid if he goes to the prom at the other school.

The boy is going anyway, in satanic satan-ness like the Satan-child that he is, which is like Satan. He will go, and dance, and maybe have a good time that he will remember forever. The horror.

My prediction is the Christian School will not suspend the kid. If they do, they will have to deal with the parents who pay tuition, and don’t want to have their kids’ behavior dictated outside of school. If they don’t they will have to relinquish their attempted idiotic authority of the kids outside of their jurisdiction, which is how it should be.
