Dave and Kathleen Named VPs

American Atheists President Ed Buckner announced today that the Board of
Directors has recently approved the appointment of two new leaders for
the organization, Kathleen Johnson as Vice President for the Western
United States and David Silverman as Vice President for the Eastern
United States. Both Silverman and Johnson are already members of the
board of directors and active leaders of the organization, but their
elevation and new titles are expected to help the organization put
emphasis on vigorous new ideas, fresh approaches, and broadened
leadership for the group.

Dear organized religion,

We’re coming to get you.

Love,

Dave and Kathleen.

Let’s see…one president…two VP’s…one for the east…one for the west. Overseeing an organization based on (non)religion…

Tell me Dave…what’s so different between AA and organized religion…?

  2. avatar zeus says:

Tell me phreedm…what’s the difference between Christianity and Egyptian mythology?

    • avatar phreedm says:

      zeus…really? You’ve answered your own question…

Try rereading your question. The answer is obvious…

      • avatar zeus says:

Huh??? They’re both mythologies and they’re both absurd. I was calling it Christianity so you would answer because if I said Christian mythology like it really is you would run away from the debate.

Jesus was adopted from Horus. Pretty much everything in Christianity is just a collection and adaption of other mythological stories.

  3. avatar atheistmike says:

So what’s the dividing line between Eastern and Western? Are they separate synods? (Just joking about that last one :) )

  4. avatar Yahweh says:

tELL US ALL PHREEDM AND JCC: WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN JE-SUS AND JE-ZEUS? iN OTHER WORDS , WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN XTIANITY AND PAGAN ZEUS WORSHIP?

“The original Hebrew or Jewish Name of the professing Jewish Messiah, who was accepted as such by a certain section (some 3000 souls) of Israel, at and after His Appearance in Israel, some 2000 years ago. To them He was known as YAHU’SHUAH (abbreviated: Y’SHUAH, also pronounced YEHOSHUA or YESHUA). In time, over the first few centuries after Messiah, His Name was gradually changed to “Je-Zeus Khristos” by the pagan masses who converted and joined the originally Jewish Messianic Sect. Out of this, Christianity was born, which was a mixture of originally pure Judaism, and gradually, progressive influences of pagan customs and traditions, together with a growing tide of an anti-Semitic spirit. This was greatly due to the instigation of influential leaders like Constantine the Great, who was a Zeus worshipper, and who purportedly converted to Christianity. It was also a natural process as a result of the infiltration of followers of the sun god, Zeus, into the Christian ranks. Even the name of their pagan idol ‘Zeus’ was applied to their new-found Jewish Messiah – and Y’Shuah (the abbreviated transliteration of YAHU’SHUAH), became “Y’Zeus” or Je-Zeus – which became ‘Jesus’ in English (NOTE – the middle ‘s’ is pronounced as a ‘z’). In other languages, it took on various other forms.

A similar pagan influenced name-shift has been retained to this day in the KJV translation of Luke 4:27, where it refers to the prophet “Eliseus’ and an event recorded in 2 Kings 5:14 (according even to the KJV reference version). This prophet’s Hebrew name, however, was ‘Eli’Shuah’, which means “God is my Salvation” (as Y’SHUAH means “YAH is Salvation” or “YAH the Saviour”). Exactly the same as the pagan influence changed Y’SHUAH to “Y’Zeus” – (‘Jesus’ – phonetically ‘Jezus’), so also Luk 4:27 reflects the change of “Eli’Shuah” to “Eli’Zeus’ (“My God is Zeus”)! Youngs Bible Concordance in its reference to the name ‘Eliseus’, states: “The form in which the name of Elisha appears in the common version of the New Testament and the Apocrypha in Luke 4:27″.

The Hebrew form of the Name YAHU’SHUAH (or Y’SHUAH) is often used in the Tanach (Old Testament) as well as in the official Jewish daily and festival Prayer Books, where it is generally translated as “Salvation”.”

Here’s a classic example of someone simply copying their favorite web site, pasting it as if it were fact…

You really should check your sources…

      • avatar Yahweh says:

There are multiple sources phreedm. But, rather than post them all here, I invite you to , at a minimum, google, “holy names”, “origins of god names, etc.

Let me assure you, phreedm, my practice requires detailed, thorough research and cross-referencing, whcih I studiously apply in other aspects of life.

You should try itsometime , rather than merely spoutingoff with hackneyed, trite retorts.

Great argument in the face of fact buddy. “Nu-uh” only works for small children and, evidently, religious trolls.

  5. avatar dw says:

Congratulations Dave. Don’t get a big head now.
I hope to see a more prominent display of American Atheists. It’s time to encourage our fellow freethinkers to shed the cloak of invisibility we have all worn so long.

Now on a very different note. And I honestly feel very sorry for those who placed so much trust in Barry…sorry Alex

The president unveiled his pro-homosexual agenda on the White House website on Inauguration Day. Under the “Civil Rights” section, he called for the repeal of the act signed by President Bill Clinton in 1996 after an overwhelming bipartisan vote in Congress (342-67 and 85-14).

The Defense of Marriage Act provides that federal laws must be interpreted in accord with the traditional definition of marriage as the union of husband and wife.

The following is the original language posted on the White House website as Obama took office:

Oppose a Constitutional Ban on Same-Sex Marriage: President Obama voted against the Federal Marriage Amendment in 2006 which would have defined marriage as between a man and a woman and prevented judicial extension of marriage-like rights to same-sex or other unmarried couples.

Support Full Civil Unions and Federal Rights for LGBT Couples: President Obama supports full civil unions that give same-sex couples legal rights and privileges equal to those of married couples. Obama also believes we need to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act and enact legislation that would ensure that the 1,100+ federal legal rights and benefits currently provided on the basis of marital status are extended to same-sex couples in civil unions and other legally-recognized unions. These rights and benefits include the right to assist a loved one in times of emergency, the right to equal health insurance and other employment benefits, and property rights. (emphasis added)

The White House has removed the president’s goal to repeal the act. The website now states the following:

President Obama also continues to support the Employment Non-Discrimination Act and believes that our anti-discrimination employment laws should be expanded to include sexual orientation and gender identity. He supports full civil unions and federal rights for LGBT couples and opposes a constitutional ban on same-sex marriage. … (emphasis added)

The White House also temporarily altered language promising to repeal the military’s “Don’t ask, don’t tell” policy. The newly worded statement simply said the president “supports changing Don’t Ask Don’t Tell in a sensible way that strengthens our armed forces and our national security.”

    • avatar godless sodomite says:

Five states now have marriage equality with New York and others soon to follow. More has happened in the last few weeks than in the last decade for gay rights. Dont be sorry, Im not.

      • avatar Boise Jim says:

        GS-
I can’t wait to see the day the state that Phreakshow lives in finally treats the gay community like equals and allows gay marriage.

Of course, being in back-assed, Rethuglican stronghold Idaho, we will probably be one of the last.

    • avatar Boise Jim says:

Do you even know what the word ‘hypocrite’ means?!

    • avatar Steve Rider says:

Mmmmm, Homosexual Agenda! Christians will be forced to have gay sex orgies in their churches, and that’s just for starters. Phreedm, I suggest you run away because the sky is falling, and it’s going to land right on all of the Fundietards.

  9. avatar reason says:

congrats Dave and Kathleen, a few questions just where is the line between east/west.Also atheists in this country have supported rights for gays are we getting support in return.Final question what about the souter seat on supreme court i’m concerned a hispanic will favor catholic church.

    • 1) It doesn’t really, it’s about where we are, and where we are based. I can go west, and she can come east.
      2) The gays have their plates full and are making major strides. Their progress is our progress, generally speaking. We’re all friends.
      3) We can only hope about the SCOTUS, although secular groups are involved with the administration and have an active place at the table.

  10. avatar karen says:

Congrats, Dave and Kathleen. Dave what does this new assignment entail that you weren’t already doing for AA?

  11. avatar proud_atheist says:

i would like to say, i’m new to the site, and am glad there are fellow atheist to converse with. why do we need ppl appointed to east coast, west coast appointments? i looked at the calendar, and nothing what soever is happening. its not like we are so busy promoting our selfs , organizing events that 2 ppl are needed. i guess its just stroking egos, and making ppl feel good about themselves for doing absolutely nothing.,a title, just a way to say i’m better than every one else, i’m special.
There is some asshole on this site a lawyer, the scum of the earth who post “i can do work for atheist if you are discriminated against,” then post an ad for religious fucks also. hey dick, stop standing in the door way, pic a side your either a believer or not,…or maybe just a money grubbing dick.
america’s professionals 8 out of ten are lawyers….japans professionals 8 out of ten are engineer’s, the world would be better off with ppl creating vs. taking.
my personal view about atheist is the understanding that life is short, all that matters is what we do now, and try to make future generations progress further. gain more knowledge so we can get past the simple b.s. we fight about now. i know i’m not the most educated person, i can barely type, spell, and have no chance of doing complex mathematics. i do have a passion for my fellow man to evolve, become more, and grow.

marriage is a scam…..it was first introduced as a form of ownership, now over 50 percent of them end….so lets ask our selfs who benefits from this. lawyers, the state, and the federal government, at the expense of the blinded masses, and they get away with it by using some god who wants you to be joined. if 2 ppl love each other who gives a shit what they are, man woman, man, man, woman to woman , if you make that person happy they don’t leave. but thanks to lawyers, and churches, they can make their own economy get married..pay, get divorced pay… its all about the buck.

    • avatar what says:

If one does not plan on having children then I do not know why anybody would get married. But when children are involved marriage, with all of its legal consequences, makes sense and is really the only ethical way to go.

      • avatar Boise Jim says:

        What-
My wife and I planned on no children from the beginning. Marriage was mostly for the tax breaks and insurance benefits, and other little perks like that.

Sometimes ya’ just got to play the game.

Everybody has the right to legal representation. The lawyer’s job is to represent the client’s position, not his own.

If we could only defend our rights in court when we could find a lawyer who believed the same as we do, we’d all be screwed.

On a neighboring thread LittleBird used &’s and @’s like KA does. It’s been something of trademark for KA. So I was just wondering if KA was making a moniker change. That’s all.

Now quit gnawing on my ankle. :-)
