Young Saudi girl’s marriage ended
Media reports say an arranged marriage between a Saudi girl aged eight and a man in his 50s has been annulled, in a case attracting worldwide criticism.The Saudi Gazette says the divorce was agreed in an out-of-court settlement after a judge rejected two attempts to grant the girl a divorce.
The case prompted Saudi officials to say it would start regulating the marriages of young girls.

If the prophet himself gives the example, no wonder that his followers want to imitate him and also marry a child. Once on Yahoo Questions and Answers, someone asked “Was Mahomet a pedophile ?”. I was almost banned from the site for having said that any person that would marry a child is by definition a pedophile, hence Mahomet was also one. To not acknowledge that any religion can (and should be) labeled as violent when it specifically provides justification for, or encourages acts of, violence seems a mistake to me. Whether people actually use it as justification to commit violence is a separate matter. The religion can not be considered one of peace if, through its teachings, it encourages violent acts. Christianity, Judaism and Islam are all guilty of this.
But this is a thread about Islam.

That’s interesting to consider. My first inclination would be to say no (as it relates to these three religions).
It would be valid to say a religion is peaceful, even when its teachings contain violence, if the violence is only utilized to demonstrate the benefits of peace and/or to draw a contrast between the two. But in the case of these particular religions, violence is often encouraged to maintain obedience and submission. As an example, One couldn’t consider a person to be peaceful if they often preached peace, but also encouraged violence to subjugate and oppress others.

I have never once advocated for restricting the rights of blacks or any other group. Never. I simply choose to avoid certain people because of my experiences with members of certain groups and the research I have done into crime and violence statistics regarding these groups. As an American I have the right to associate with those I want to do, dont I? Once *you* have been the target of repeated public taunts because of your sexual orientation and disabilty, had your sense of safety destroyed, and three times been the victim of property theft by members of the black community then, and only then, can you judge me.

I would grant that christianity and Islam are both peaceful… but only when like-minded individuals are involved. If you disagree with any religion it has the potential of becoming aggressive very quickly, if not aggressive at least punitive in some fashion to encourage a change of attitude.
Even shunning is a form of persuasion to prompt an individual to acclimate to prevailing beliefs of the group.

You’re right. If you research birth rates, fertility rates, migration statistics, and education, etc., you will realize that the same thing Christians did to Native Americans (swarm in, have lots of babies, enact horrible legislation), is the same things Muslims are doing to Europe, (and ultimately America). If these statistics are correct and continue on their current course, the clash of civilization will be Muslims vs. Atheists. The factor determining who “wins” will be whether atheists can educate people faster than Muslims can breed.
