Conservatives Love Porn!

A new study shows that the states that consume the most porn tend to be more conservative and religious than states with lower levels of consumption.(ABC News Photo Illustration)A new nationwide study (pdf) of anonymised credit-card receipts from a major online adult entertainment provider finds little variation in consumption between states.”When it comes to adult entertainment, it seems people are more the same than different,” says Benjamin Edelman at Harvard Business School. However, there are some trends to be seen in the data. Those states that do consume the most porn tend to be more conservative and religious than states with lower levels of consumption, the study finds.”Some of the people who are most outraged turn out to be consumers of the very things they claimed to be outraged by,” Edelman says.

Thanks Alex,BTW, stay tuned tomorrow for a fun tidbit.

    PLEASE BECOME A FAN OF

    Give up Lent for Lent…

which asks people to give up superstition and fear

    for rational and independent thought.

    No surprise there.
Hmmm… those same groups of people have higher rates of divorce, too.

  3. Asemodeus says:

This is always one area that theists can never win a debate in. Their continuing delusions that since being a christian automatically makes you morally superior over atheists is completely bonkers wrong when you bother to look at the data.

Makes sense, Catholics might be considered conservative. Bees do it, Birds do it, dried out Priests do it.

  5. godless sodomite says:

The 27 states that banned gay marriage in the last election have an 11% higher rate of porn consumption than those with no explicit ban on gay marriage. Interesting.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe it is called ‘projecting’ and it is a common trait amongst the delusional.

One of the members of my local freethought group is an entrepreneur who, though he made his original fortune in the oil industry, also owns an assortment of other businesses. One of the most successful of these is an adult bookstore in Wyoming. It’s located right next to the border with Utah, a state that has banned this type of store, and advertises itself as “the best little pornshop in Utah.”

    It does a land-office business…

What’s even better about this is the fact that a Zogby survey showed Americans associating atheists with porn in high numbers. I cover this in my column at Examiner column (just look for DC Secularism Examiner). It’s wonderful irony.

…being a christian automatically makes you morally superior over atheists

And exactly where did you come up with this fact?

From my observations this is a conclusion reached by most non-believers without any direct evidence…

One could make the exact opposite argument by simply reading posts on this blog…

  12. godless sodomite says:

    Asmeodus,
Being a xian or being an atheist doesnt impart morality. We are all born with an innate sense of right or wrong, except psycopaths, as an artifact of our social evolution. The differene between atheists and xians is that we arent terrified by our humanity.

  13. Asemodeus says:

“And exactly where did you come up with this fact? “

By watching theists in debates. They automatically assume such nonsense.

But of course I actually like to read literature, which I’m sure poor phree can’t even grasp in the first place.

I used to get upset by phredumdums posts, but if this new poll is true, then its safe to assume that he has been writing these with only one hand, bravo sir, I would shake your hand, but, well, you know.

duh, what’s new about this ’study’?

    Dave,

If you want to talk about adult themes on your website, you better fix your fucking spam filter, and stop talking about it.

I had a great first hand post about christians and dirty pictures, but Dave’s spam filter wouldn’t allow it. So much for his dedication to blasphemy. Even though his thread head uses word POR=,No, his spam filter won’t allow it.

If you know which words anger the spam filter, just be creative with the spelling of those words and they’ll slip through. Or use synonyms. P0rno. See? That’s the number 0 instead of the letter o.

  21. godless sodomite says:

    Neo,
    Check the attitude.
You can break up banned words with a dash or using a zero for an “o” or a “1″ for an “l”.. Ex.- p0rn, 1esbian, sh-it, fuc-k, puss-y, c-unt, shall I go on?

    He he, that was fun.

The only correlation between Christians/Conservatives and p0rn consumption in this article are the States? Edelman’s conclusion is not valid. How does he link the actual card holder to his/her religious/political views? All he can state is SOME not all traditionally conservative states download more p0rn than other traditionally liberal states. Christians nor Conservatives should not be mentioned as actual consumers of p0rn.

Why was my comment deleted? This is not “preachy, vulgar, or hateful”.

okay dave, gonna try this again,

My father was an elder in his congregation. He hid a sleezy magazine in the shitter in my grandfathers woodshop. I found it, not because I was looking for it, but I was searching for a place to hide my sleezy magazine. LOL.

I must have left a couple of his pages stuck together, because next thing I know, he’s pulling me off to one side and telling me he discovered that my seventy two year old grand father was stashing sleezy magazines in the head. I was of course convinced,NOT!!! because if you wanted to reach the hole where the magazines were stashed, you’d have to be four inches taller than my grandfather, and twenty years younger. At the time, I was a pervert, and remain so, but my father was a pervert as well, and would be still if he weren’t dead, but, I think it’s hilarious that he tried to blame it on his father.

Having lived it, the more religion tries to nullify hormonal responses and the desire to go crazy in your partner’s anatomical differences, to that extent as well you will seek release though other outlets. Everyone needs and deserves an atomic orgasm, but the law of diminishing returns takes it away again anyway.
