That's a big step up, but there's still a long way to go. These scientists made this molecule themselves. The real aim of abiogenesis is to show how a self-replicating molecule could have formed naturally on the primitive Earth.
In 1953 Stanley Miller was able to create organic compounds including amino acids from hydrogen, water, methane, and ammonia. Now we have a kind of molecule which can replicate itself. Maybe in another 50 we will have it all figured out. I won't be around, I hope humanity is.

Rather than start with RNA enzymes - ribozymes - present in other organisms, Joyce's team created its own molecule from scratch, called R3C. It performed a single function: stitching two shorter RNA molecules together to create a clone of itself.

Wow...can you say Intelligent Design?
After all, it didn't happen spontaneously...

Thanks for the proof of ID Dave...
dw...I know you don't read my posts, but Miller's experiment proved nothing and is no longer sited as an example of how life began...

But just the same, if it did, it was simply another example of Intelligent Design...

According to many researchers today, an even more serious problem is the fact that the atmosphere of the early earth was very different from what Miller assumed. Research has since drawn Miller's hypothetical atmosphere into question, causing many scientists to doubt the relevance of his findings. The problem was stated as follows:

'..the accepted picture of the earth;s early atmosphere has changed: It was probably O2-rich with some nitrogen, a less reactive mixture than Miller's, or it might have been composed largely of carbon dioxide, which would greatly deter the development of organic compounds.

can you say.....hijacking a scientific conclusion as to the origins of the universe by sticking a 2000 year old exaggerated unverifiable claim in front of evolution.....
