Neale Donald Walsch, best-selling author of Conversations with God, said Tuesday he unwittingly passed off another writer’s Christmas anecdote as his own in a recent blog post. As a result, Walsch’s blog on the spirituality website Beliefnet.com has been shut down. The website said in a statement Walsch failed to properly credit and attribute material from another author.
This happens to me all the time. I wrote in my book “Letter to a Christian Country” (not yet published): Although we can’t prove there isn’t a magic coffeepot floating around Jupiter, there is no reason to believe it’s there. Yes, it was stolen from me.I also just came up with something new — what if ideas were passed off from one person to another like… like a virus? Wow. I’m a genius.
Dave
Is this a C/S issue?
658 dead Palestinians later and the US calls for a cease fire. I guess Israel and the neocons have filled their quota for dead Palestinians.
You can all quote me.
Wonder why we didnt hear about yet another fake jewish holocaust memoir on this blog?

There is of course, no excuse for this, well, theft. Lets call it what it is. It breaks my heart, as I have often said, bye bye mrs, american pie, drove my chevy to the levy but the levy was dry, them good old boys were drinking whisky and rhy singing this will be the day that I die. Then I hum
b/c in PC fairy land you do not have the right to defend yourself.
If someone shot at your family, I guarantee you wouldn’t just sit there & take it on the chin.
What do you think Hamas is doing? they are protecting themselves and other Palestinians from the israelis who stole everything that they have.
Maybe somebody should ask beliefnet if they are going to ban the Bible for plagiarism?
Re: “What do you think Hamas is doing? they are protecting themselves and other Palestinians from the israelis who stole everything that they have.”
Not that I think this is the right forum to comment on anything other than plagiarism, but I just can’t let this misinformation pass.
First, there never was a Palestinian state until the UN mandated one 60 years. The place has always been the property of others (such as the Turks and the Romans) so the concept of stealing it from the Palestinians is problematical. That’s not the major flaw in sodomite’s argument though.
The best way for Hamas to protect Gaza is to just stop shooting at Israel. The Palestinians in the West Bank have done so (more or less) and no one is shooting at them in return. The Israelis have tried to improve relations with Gaza even going so far as to evacuate its settlements there in 2005. Has Hamas made any peaceful gesture in return?
Obviously things are still rough for Palestinians even in the West Bank but the relative quiet has enabled peace negotiations there to move forward. You want to influence Israel to make land for peace deals more likely? Just put a stop to the shooting. That will undermine the right-wing religious splinter parties that control the swing vote in Israel’s Knesset. They’re the ones who want settlements in the West Bank, etc. Most Israelis hate their guts (for this and other reasons) and would love to see them lose their influence.
Not so fast Not so fast.
That post was on topic. Are you sure that belongs here??
dfledermaus
You should read Jimmy Carters piece in today’s NYTimes Op/Ed section and then get back to us about what’s best for the Palestinians.
dfledermaus
So what you are saying is everything will be fine if Palestinians simply stop fighting? You might want to brush up a little on how the Israeli state was formed. Unbelievable.
Looks like I was wrong the Israelis and neocons have reached there quota yet.
763 Palestinians and two U.N. aid workers dead.
… and you are footing the bill … in this economy.
have reached -> have not reached
Im leaning with what on this crap….I dont give 2 shits about some holy dirt…..I care about Israel as much as I care about Africa or Mexico….I take that back…I care more about Mexico cause its closer….
If there were no god beliefs….there would be no martyrs….and no religious war….stupid supernatural being beliefs….
and who started monotheism….someone who thought they were smarter than the Greeks?….

” but I just can’t let this misinformation pass.”
You are wasting your time, friend, What and godless are a couple of anti-semitic “Zionist conspiracy” theorists, and just like Hamas, no amount of logic and reason can reach them. I know, I have tried on other threads.
While they spin the facts, and whine about the conduct of Israel, they are oblivious to the reality that it is people who think like them that are responsible for deaths of the Palestinians. Not the Israellis.
Always the same old rant.

So did you read today’s NY Times article by Jimmy Carter? Do you disagree with facts reported in his article? Which ones?
What…yeah, like I’d believe those numbers. After all, Hamas has never inflated numbers before…

What…do I know, exactly where was your outrage when Hamas killed Jewish kids?
That’s the problem with you and Alex…your outrage and compassion are based on racisim…hardly believable.
By the way Dave…what, no request to keep comments “On Topic”?
Hardly…atheists don’t believe in anything they can’t see, touch or taste…
Or should I say…”True Atheism” which is an impossibility…
Phreeky’s whole argument is that he doesn’t “BELIEVE those numbers” which is of course no argument at all. Sorry Phreek, belief is for losers. Reality rules.
… and he thinks viruses are invisible. LOL
Phreedumb said:

I really hate this shit. Other than JCC, Phreedumb is the biggest mental turd who haunts this site, and again he makes Whatismyname, a supposed enlightened individual look like a turnip. But, when he’s right he’s right.
I will waste my words once more, toss another string of pearls into the pig sty. When you choose an opinion, then go look for reasons to believe it, that’s religion. When you search all the facts you can find, tear away the spin, and then form an opinion based on those facts, that is free thought. WhatwasIsaying is never going to get a clue, because he chooses not to. Don’t confuse him with the facts, his mind is made up.

I asked you to read Carters Op/Ed and tell me if you disagree with the facts he reports. Strangely you did not. Try the frontal lobe … it’s the one that is the front.
Phreeky possesses fire arms in his home so I guess it would be OK with him if I bomb his home.
Here’s a tip for someone who doesnt want israel stomping on them….STOP…FIRING…ROCKETS….INTO….ISRAEL. It’s a shame whats happening over there, but the Palestinian govt. allows it by sanctioning violence against a sovereign country. (before anyone says anything about how israel became sovereign…it doesnt matter, they are a sovereign country)
hurricane
I can see that you didn’t read Carter’s Op/Ed piece either. You really should.
Then it wont matter to you by what means they become un-”sovereign”.
WhatNOT!! asked this:
“I asked you to read Carters Op/Ed and tell me if you disagree with the facts he reports. Strangely you did not. Try the frontal lobe … it’s the one that is the front.”
Let me see if I remember, Jimmy Carter, hum? He was the incumbant president that was not re-elected. Wasn’t he the one who left the embassy hostages in Iran and thought he could negotiate with religious fundamentalists? Wasn’t he the one who wrote the book that pissed off the entire planet? Yeah, I think that’s him.
I kinda admired him, in a way, he always thought that war is the final option, that violence begets violence, and he was right. But, in the reality of human affairs, when dealing with those who have no grasp on logic or common sense, that threshold, that line in the sand, existed for him at a different place than practicality dictated. It’s like Jesus telling us to turn the other cheek, that’s great if everyone is playing the same game, but in reality, it’s a dream for a perfect world.
I have no interest in Jimmy Carter’s opinions, therefore, I do not seek them out in order to be able to compare apples and oranges with you. You have formed your opinions without the facts, and no amount of logic can reach you.
Yet another string of pearls trampled into a pen full of pig shit.

Well then this should be a perfect opportunity for you to dazzle us with your knowledge. So I am still waiting for you to tell me what you specifically disagree with in Carter’s article.
NeoWolfe has completely lost his mind. He hasn’t said anything for days but the same senseless rant. There is no point in trying to reach him with facts or reason.
hurricane7272, don’t you make the same mistake. Get real: Being a “sovereign” country, even if you got that way less sleazily than Israel did, does not exempt you from international law or morality. Anybody who is attacked is going to defend themselves, and “sovereignty” be damned.
NotSoFast
Very well said!
Phreedm,
Some freight trains have to roll.
Dave
What does that mean?
Dave
Never mind. I see that you were addressing Phreeky’s second post rather than his third. At least I hope you were.
Why have you stayed out of this freight train of an argument?
Dave, here is exactly what I was talking about. Not so Smart said this:

Did you notice that last couple of lines where he rationalized destroying Israel. Why doesn’t the same apply to a county where the ruling party is a terrorist organization? I agree, sovereignty be damned, Hamas was elected as majority to the Gaza paliament, and are not even recognized by the West Bank. They use their citizens as propaganda shields, to die so they can accuse Israel of attrocities.
There is a really good solution. Gaza absorbed by Egypt, who has recognized the SOVEREIGNTY of Israel, and the West Bank absorbed by Jordan who also does. Then, in the Arab style, those who disturb the peace will be publicly executed, and not take hundreds of innocents down with them.
NeoWolfe
Correction: should have read, “There is a really good solution which I plagiarized”. That will make Dave happier.
Neowolfe
Even though I do disagree with some issues brought up by What and godless, I would not call them ‘anti-semitic’. If they are more sympathetic with the palestinian people than the israelis and the jews, it doesn’t mean they are anti-semitic. The palestinians are semitic peoples as well.
NeoWolfe quoted my entire post, and immediately after it put this non-sequitur:
The poor fool can’t even read in his deranged state.
As I understand it, Hamas won the all-Palestinian election and ought to have sovereignty over the West Bank as well as Gaza. The corrupt Fatah regime refused to withdraw and had to be put out of power forcibly. Hamas succeeded in doing this in Gaza, but not in the West Bank. Israel, of course, is playing the two factions against each other. It has been blockading Gaza to punish the people there for having a democratically elected government, and naturally treating the West Bank differently for now.
I haven’t heard of anything Hamas has done lately that could reasonably be called “terrorism”. That word is as overused and misused as “anti-Semitism”.
They die because the Israelis kill them! That is atrocity.
Why does nobody ever notice Israeli atrocities except when the Palestinians are shooting back?
An interesting article I found today; the author apparently is an expatriate Israeli living in Britain.
http://www.adbusters.org/
features/stolen_land.html
He and some others think the Palestinians are winning their struggle, that if Israel continues its genocidal course it will go under.
The civilized world can only hope that is not wishful thinking.
NotSoFast
I agree. Israel is about to “go under” and for the same reason that the USA is heading for an “extreme makeover” – unbridled hubris.
In the article you referenced I found this astonishing:
Is this true? Has the Nakba been essentially purged from the Israeli educational curriculum? Wow!
From McClatchy Newspapers
Dave
Why do you not comment on the Israeli action in Gaza other than to say:
Surely these events warrant more seriousness than a glib reference to your vacationing preferences.
ashtoreth made this comment:

Your point would be completely valid if it weren’t for facts that you seem to be unaware of. That is, as What keeps thrusting the Gaza/Israelli conflict into threads where it is completely off topic, he also keeps thrusting a taunt in Dave Silverman’s face about why he refuses to post topics about Bernie Madoff, another Jew, insinuating that Dave has a Jewish agenda. Dave has been very focused, that his agenda is about keeping religion out of politics, and discussion about a corporate criminal who happens to be Jewish does not in any way fit. What is an anti-Semitic skinhead. Read around on the other threads, I didn’t make the accusation without concrete cause. Not my style.
NeoWolfe
Oh, damn, I forgot, ashtoreth said,
“The palestinians are semitic peoples as well.”
The only thing Semitic about the Palestinians is the Jewish women the Ottoman Turks and Persians raped when they took the land by military force. Google Ottoman Empire, it’s eye opening.
If you are interested, I was blown away by the fact that while Europe was in the “dark ages” the Islamic world was in a period of technological breakthrough. It really is a amazing story.

Why don’t you let Dave speak for himself?
Dave?
neowlfe,
I don’t get to write much on this blogs yet I enjoy reading some of the comments. I am certainly aware of some inside politics thus I read the ongoing threats. I am not aware about ‘jewish women’ raped by the Ottoman, the Turks and the Persians. I will research your comment properly from better sources than the internet. However, and according to your own comment…
“The only thing Semitic about the Palestinians is the Jewish women the Ottoman Turks and Persians raped when they took the land by military force. Google Ottoman Empire, it’s eye opening.”
… then the palestinians are semitic people.
