Thou Shalt Not Plagiarize

Neale Donald Walsch, best-selling author of Conversations with God, said Tuesday he unwittingly passed off another writer’s Christmas anecdote as his own in a recent blog post. As a result, Walsch’s blog on the spirituality website Beliefnet.com has been shut down. The website said in a statement Walsch failed to properly credit and attribute material from another author.

This happens to me all the time. I wrote in my book “Letter to a Christian Country” (not yet published): Although we can’t prove there isn’t a magic coffeepot floating around Jupiter, there is no reason to believe it’s there. Yes, it was stolen from me.I also just came up with something new — what if ideas were passed off from one person to another like… like a virus? Wow. I’m a genius.

NeoWolfe has completely lost his mind. He hasn’t said anything for days but the same senseless rant. There is no point in trying to reach him with facts or reason.

hurricane7272, don’t you make the same mistake. Get real: Being a “sovereign” country, even if you got that way less sleazily than Israel did, does not exempt you from international law or morality. Anybody who is attacked is going to defend themselves, and “sovereignty” be damned.

    Very well said!

Never mind. I see that you were addressing Phreeky’s second post rather than his third. At least I hope you were.

Why have you stayed out of this freight train of an argument?

Dave, here is exactly what I was talking about. Not so Smart said this:

Did you notice that last couple of lines where he rationalized destroying Israel. Why doesn’t the same apply to a county where the ruling party is a terrorist organization? I agree, sovereignty be damned, Hamas was elected as majority to the Gaza paliament, and are not even recognized by the West Bank. They use their citizens as propaganda shields, to die so they can accuse Israel of attrocities.

There is a really good solution. Gaza absorbed by Egypt, who has recognized the SOVEREIGNTY of Israel, and the West Bank absorbed by Jordan who also does. Then, in the Arab style, those who disturb the peace will be publicly executed, and not take hundreds of innocents down with them.

Correction: should have read, “There is a really good solution which I plagiarized”. That will make Dave happier.

Even though I do disagree with some issues brought up by What and godless, I would not call them ‘anti-semitic’. If they are more sympathetic with the palestinian people than the israelis and the jews, it doesn’t mean they are anti-semitic. The palestinians are semitic peoples as well.

NeoWolfe quoted my entire post, and immediately after it put this non-sequitur:

Did you notice that last couple of lines where he rationalized destroying Israel.

The poor fool can’t even read in his deranged state.

Why doesn’t the same apply to a county where the ruling party is a terrorist organization? I agree, sovereignty be damned, Hamas was elected as majority to the Gaza paliament, and are not even recognized by the West Bank.

As I understand it, Hamas won the all-Palestinian election and ought to have sovereignty over the West Bank as well as Gaza. The corrupt Fatah regime refused to withdraw and had to be put out of power forcibly. Hamas succeeded in doing this in Gaza, but not in the West Bank. Israel, of course, is playing the two factions against each other. It has been blockading Gaza to punish the people there for having a democratically elected government, and naturally treating the West Bank differently for now.

I haven’t heard of anything Hamas has done lately that could reasonably be called “terrorism”. That word is as overused and misused as “anti-Semitism”.

They use their citizens as propaganda shields, to die so they can accuse Israel of attrocities.

They die because the Israelis kill them! That is atrocity.

Why does nobody ever notice Israeli atrocities except when the Palestinians are shooting back?

An interesting article I found today; the author apparently is an expatriate Israeli living in Britain.

He and some others think the Palestinians are winning their struggle, that if Israel continues its genocidal course it will go under.

The civilized world can only hope that is not wishful thinking.

I agree. Israel is about to “go under” and for the same reason that the USA is heading for an “extreme makeover” – unbridled hubris.

In the article you referenced I found this astonishing:

The Israelis do not realise that Palestinians in Gaza and in refugee camps in the region are actually dispossessed people from Ber Shive, Yafo, Tel Kabir, Shekh Munis, Lod, Haifa, Jerusalem and many more towns and villages. If you wonder how come the Israelis don’t know their history, the answer is pretty simple, they have never been told. The circumstances that led to the Israeli Palestinian conflict are well hidden within their culture. Traces of pre-1948 Palestinian civilisation on the land had been wiped out. Not only the Nakba, the 1948 ethnic cleansing of the indigenous Palestinians, is not part of the Israeli curriculum, it is not even mentioned or discussed in any Israeli official or academic forum.

Is this true? Has the Nakba been essentially purged from the Israeli educational curriculum? Wow!

    From McClatchy Newspapers

The U.N. high commissioner for human rights Friday called for an investigation of possible Israeli war crimes in Gaza as local residents told more gruesome tales about Israeli troops neglecting wounded civilians and the killing of unarmed Palestinians.

Why do you not comment on the Israeli action in Gaza other than to say:

My theistic Jewish relatives seem disappointed when I tell them I have no intention of traveling to Israel, but traveling to the “Region of Unlimited Unstoppable Religious War” is simply unappealing to me — especially when The Bahamas is closer.

Surely these events warrant more seriousness than a glib reference to your vacationing preferences.

Your point would be completely valid if it weren’t for facts that you seem to be unaware of. That is, as What keeps thrusting the Gaza/Israelli conflict into threads where it is completely off topic, he also keeps thrusting a taunt in Dave Silverman’s face about why he refuses to post topics about Bernie Madoff, another Jew, insinuating that Dave has a Jewish agenda. Dave has been very focused, that his agenda is about keeping religion out of politics, and discussion about a corporate criminal who happens to be Jewish does not in any way fit. What is an anti-Semitic skinhead. Read around on the other threads, I didn’t make the accusation without concrete cause. Not my style.

  15. avatar neowolfe says:

Oh, damn, I forgot, ashtoreth said,

“The palestinians are semitic peoples as well.”

The only thing Semitic about the Palestinians is the Jewish women the Ottoman Turks and Persians raped when they took the land by military force. Google Ottoman Empire, it’s eye opening.

If you are interested, I was blown away by the fact that while Europe was in the “dark ages” the Islamic world was in a period of technological breakthrough. It really is a amazing story.

  17. avatar ashtoreth says:

    neowlfe,
I don’t get to write much on this blogs yet I enjoy reading some of the comments. I am certainly aware of some inside politics thus I read the ongoing threats. I am not aware about ‘jewish women’ raped by the Ottoman, the Turks and the Persians. I will research your comment properly from better sources than the internet. However, and according to your own comment…

“The only thing Semitic about the Palestinians is the Jewish women the Ottoman Turks and Persians raped when they took the land by military force. Google Ottoman Empire, it’s eye opening.”

… then the palestinians are semitic people.
