Phreedm is correct in that the Jefferson quote used on the AA home page appears to be spurious. No less a source than the Jefferson Library http://www.monticello.org/library/reference/spurious.html says so. Of course his insinuation that AA has to resort to historical revisionism is more questionable. No one is perfect but, hopefully, once an error has been pointed out, it is important for AA to correct it. We aren't absolutists here so contrary facts should trump any reliance on references to authority anyway.

1) No, I read daily & the blatant trolling doesn't seem to be a problem here.
2) Yes, they do have sensible things to say from time to time
3) That's your baby
4) Friday schnitzel give aways?

1 No. I hate waiting for moderation.
2 I think they should be allowed to post, but if they get preachy, give 'em a warning. If they continue, boot 'em.
3 Yeah-we should get frequent flier points for drawings for free convention tickets!
4 I like mxracer's idea. Schnitzel. or sticky buns.

PS: WOOT! YAY STEELERS! Pulled themselves outta the fryin' pan again!
1) No, atheists tend to believe in freedom of speech and our beliefs are not threatened by religious people posting dissenting views. The delay would also limit free expression and thought flow.

2) See above. However any overtly preachy or nonsensical posts should be deleted.

3) No.

4) Can you allow posts to be edited? I tend to type my posts quickly while at work and dont often check my spelling until later when I reread my posts.

Without phred, jcc and their ilk, it just wouldn't be the same. We must get something like 5 responses to each comment they make.

Think how quiet it would be.

Besides, I'm still waiting for one of them to come round to reason. Deep beneath the surface of their thoughts, they long for it, I'm sure. Why else would they keep coming back?

1. No. Moderation can always be enabled later if this becomes a problem.

2. No. This is American Atheists. They have plenty of other places where they can post.

3. Not sure special privileges are needed, but I like the idea of a member badge or something. I'm already a member, so I don't know whether this would encourage me to join.

4. Keep up the good work. Oh, and it would be great if you'd update the URL to Atheist Revolution in your blogroll to http://www.atheistrev.com

Whew! A couple hours' sleep is like rising on the 3rd day.

Before this thread gets back on topic again:

Five people are hiking across country. One is a gnostic theist ("I know my Redeemer liveth!")
Another is an agnostic theist ("I can't prove it, but I believe there is a God.") One is a gnostic atheist ("Listen up, doofus! There. is. no. god.") A 4th is an agnostic atheist ("I don't believe in a god because I have never seen any evidence that supports such a belief.") And the 5th is a self-styled agnostic ("Nobody can know whether there is a god or not. I reject both theism and atheism.")

The 5 hikers come to a road crossing their path.

The gnostic theist declares, "This road is too dangerous to cross!" So he turns and goes another way.

The agnostic theist says, "I'm not sure this road is safe to cross; better not chance it." So he goes after the other theist.

The gnostic atheist declares, "This road is safe to cross!" and steps out onto the pavement.

The agnostic comes, sits down beside the road, and spends the rest of his life worrying about whether it is safe to cross.

The agnostic atheist comes, looks both ways, and if he sees no traffic coming, crosses the road.

I agree with the above (excluding troll). Also, perhaps on the sign up page you should point out the email thing. I had to opt out because some nut named leviticus sent me hate mail. 'Course it was fun to respond with a cantankerous "Bite Me".
