Fascinating scientific research...

The e=mc2 formula shows that mass can be converted into energy, and energy can be converted into mass.

Question...do you believe man will ever master this process?

An example of possible uses would be the food replicator on Star Trek...
That's what particle accelerators do. That's their whole point -- to create matter.

Everytime someone declares the mass of anything to be zero, it proves to be something a little greater than that. Not that it'll be enough to make up the discrepency, but just to say.

Anyway, the article goes on to suggest that the other 95% of the presumed energy involved is tied up in the form of energy itself -- motion, etc. At a certain level, it's almost pointless to consider matter to exist at all, I suspect.

Just a question for you?
Why are you so passionate about being an atheist. What is in it for you? Do you feel as strongly about politics which I assume you believe affects us all more directly than someone's belief or lack thereof in God? If so, where is your political blog?
Do you really care what others think as long as you believe that you have it all figured out?
I'm just trying to understand why this subject rings your bell so loudly and why you are so aggressive about it?

arnonerik,

Why are you so passionate about being an atheist. What is in it for you?
What's in it for us? Your question doesn't make sense. I would ask what's in it to not believing in fairies or unicorns? Are you saying it is noble to believe in a God or God's because of the possibility of personal reward? Is that a justifiable reason to believe? Being intellectually honest with one's self is about as true a reward as can be expected in regards to atheism.

Do you feel as strongly about politics which I assume you believe affects us all more directly than someone's belief or lack thereof in God?
What? Maybe you're unaware of the deep entanglement of religion/God-belief in American politics. They're not mutually exclusive and both cooperate to have a profound affect on us all.

Do you really care what others think as long as you believe that you have it all figured out?
Huh? We have it all figured out? Are you kidding? Atheism is the default position when there is no verifiable, testable or tangible evidence of any kind in support of a God or Gods ? unlike religion (specifically Christianity), which claims to have all of the answers without providing a single shred of evidence in support of its outrageous claims to the supernatural. I'm an atheist because I don't have all of the answers.

I'm just trying to understand why this subject rings your bell so loudly and why you are so aggressive about it?
For me, it's because science provides realhope. It gives us true understanding, provides tangible results and has been the fundamental element in improving our lives. As a generalization, where religion attempts to divide, convert and suppress, science has united, liberated and enlightened to the betterment of humanity.
