To be fair, Hagan handled Doles accusations in a terrible manner and she tripped all over herself in order to show the electorate just how much of a good xian she actually is. Hagan threw the nonreligious under the bus on this one.

Tell me Dave...

Why aren't you upset about the "myth" being violated?

Steve Lowe...the head of the Washington Area Secular Humanists

"It was so offensive to me," said Lowe, who was unveiling an unrelated ad campaign with other atheist leaders Tuesday at the National Press Club.

In that campaign, Washington buses will have signs that say, "Why believe in a god? Just be good for goodness' sake."

Charles Francis Potter, signer of the Humanist Manifesto and author of Humanism: A New Religion, wrote, ?So Humanism is not simply another denomination of Protestant Christianity; it is not a creed; nor is it a cult. It is a new type of religion altogether

In the case Torcaso v. Watkins, the U.S. Supreme Court stated, ?Among religions in this country which do not teach what would generally be considered a belief in the existence of God are Buddhism, Taoism, Ethical Culture, Secular Humanism and others

More proof the "myth" is a one way street...

COOL!
Now secular Humanism can get tax free status.(Or do they already?) Maybe Atheism should be a religion too. Free money.

Hagan handled Doles accusations in a terrible manner

Put yourself in Hagan's shoes: a politician running for election in a constituency that is largely atheophobic.

Suppose you were living in Nazi-occupied Europe, and an enemy went to the authorities and declared, falsely, that you were a Jew. Regardless of your feelings about Jews, wouldn't you take that as a vicious slander?
Obeah,

The "Secular Humanism" in the Torcaso case was a specific group that called itself the "Secular Humanist Church". The decision was not about generic secular humanism.
