The thing that disappoints me the most about the defeat of Prop. 8 in CA is that it would not have been possible without the black vote. 75% of black voters there voted against my equality yesterday and of all groups they should know better. I have never experienced more virulent homophobia like I have here in NC from the black community so I suppose that I shouldnt be surprised..
For all of you blacks who would deny gays equality here is a big fat FUCK YOU!

Sorry, g.s., while I expected it to be close, I really thought Prop. 8 was going to be voted down. For the record, this straight white male voted against it.

Like most of the people I know and love, I am still celebrating Obama's victory. I know there will be hard times ahead, but for this week, everything is wonderful.

Except for Prop. 8, of course. I still think the state of California should not allow professional religious people to perform legal marriage ceremonies. Everybody, straight and gay, should be married by a court employee, with a civil wedding being the only legal way to get married. All the ones who want the blessing of the big daddy in the sky can have whatever ceremony tickles their fancy. But it will not be the legal ceremony.

And I am very happy about Dole being defeated. She was Not a good senator at all.

Can we sing "Happy Days Are Here Again" all the rest of the week?

Dave

Nice summary of what this all means. And it looks like an added perk will be an inferno of infighting within the GOP. Don't forget to fan those flames whenever you can. To your fiscal conservative acquaintances say: "If only the social conservatives hadn't forced Palin on you then you may have had a chance." To your social conservative acquaintances say: "If only the fiscal conservatives hadn't destroyed the economy you may have had a chance."

Prop 8 proponents waged a war of misinformation. They bought a lot of time on liberal CA talk radio and ran adds that, if you weren't paying close attention, could have easily resulted in some folks casting votes opposite of that which they intended. I would have thought that prop 4 and prop 8 would have succeeded or failed together but they did not which indicates that the misinformation campaign may have been effective.
