I voted a little over a week ago. By mail.

    Oregon rules.

  2. dfledermaus says:

Ditto. I voted by mail. No fuss, no muss, no signs, no lines. I’ll never vote in person again.

  3. quantum_flux says:

    I hope that we …. http://neverfindout.org/

  4. dfledermaus says:

Here in California, voter turnout is likely to be heavy even though the presidential part of the election is a foregone conclusion. We have a couple of highly charged ballot measures, particularly Proposition 8, the anti-gay marriage initiative, which will draw out loads of religious conservatives.

I’ve never seen an election cycle that stuffed my mailbox with so many political flyers either. It’s depressing to think of how much money has been spent on this junk mail rather than on something more constructive. Oh well, I’ll not lack for parakeet cage paper for 4 more years.

  5. David Silverman dsilverman says:

yup. voted last week. Mail-in ballots are wonderful indeed!

  6. hikingkyle393 says:

Early voting is pretty nice too. Yeah, it did take an hour, but it’s not as bad as voting on the actual election day. I’ll have to look into mail-in ballots for next year though.

  7. hikingkyle393 says:

    next time*

  8. what says:

I enjoy voting on the traditional voting day. I’m looking forward to tomorrow – literally and figuratively.

  9. septos says:

For those out for a quick buck, you should have your “Dont blame me I voted for ——” bumperstickers for sale just outside the voting area.

  10. matador says:

I got up early – 4th vote vast in my district. My polling place is a fucking church. Despite this, I was really hoping to avoid any proselytizing.

No such luck! How’s this for a logical conundrum?

“People have turned their backs on God, and now they expect Him to come to the rescue.”

Funny – I always thought that nothing from nothing = nothing.

  11. charlie says:

funny how these dumb fucks know the likes and dislikes of thier supernatural friends….

I just finished voting….easy…and proud to vote for the black man

  12. charlie says:

    I mean half black man

  13. Jaydave says:

Only had to wait about 5 mins this morn , Done and now have he rest of the day off.

  14. Boise Jim says:

Voted a couple of weeks ago. Love the absentee ballot.

I hope like hell this is the first day of the long road to recovery for this country, and not a continuation of a cancerous tumor, known as the Bush doctrine.

  15. jonathan smith says:

I voted today in Florida, and as I was standing in line I overheard a conversation which said it all.
Two guys were talking about the pros and cons of each candidate, the Obama supporter seemed the most informed, and was getting the beter of the conversation. In a raised voice the other guy spewed what was really on his mind.
“I can never see the day when a black muslim could be the president of the USA”
I could not help myself,I shouted back.”Wait until tomorrow morning”

  16. DVanWechel says:

Voted via mail a little over two weeks ago. I’ll never go to the polls again.

Here’s hoping this presidential election is a landslide.

  17. Dorky Mommy says:

I’m just on my way out the door to go vote (in a church). I think Election Day is the best holiday of the year, and I try to do something special to celebrate. I’m live in California, and next to the Presidential vote (Obama of course), I want to vote NO on Prop. 8. Civil rights for everybody!

  18. Physics101 says:

I voted a week or so ago by mail. I’ll probably get some popcorn and stay up and watch it all unfold tonight. Obama will surely win, and I voted for him, but I am very concerned about his “wealth redistribution” views. As a pro-business, fiscally conservative atheist, I’m a man without real party representation.

What I am watching is Prop 8 in CA (gay marriage), and Prop 1000 in WA (right to die). These are issues largely decided on religious lines, and two victories would be further evidence of a shift toward secular tolerance in government among the voters.

Atheists are dead last in the line of groups seeking equality, so any progress made by other groups moves us closer to our day of equality.

  19. GodlessInNV says:

I voted this morning in Mandan, ND (a town of about 15,000). Stood in line for 25 minutes before getting my ballot. Not a significant amount compared to the more populous states, I know, but still a long wait for ND! I’m hoping the larger turnout this year reflects more Dems coming out to vote.

By the way, my polling place was a church this year, instead of the usual hotel ball room. If I hadn’t been going to work after voting, I would have worn my Godless American t-shirt.

  20. mxracer652 says:

I had about a 1/2 hour wait this morning, have never had to wait before.

I can’t stand listening to stupid people in large numbers.

  21. tmarkville says:

I just got back from the voting both. Didn’t have to wait but the elderly folk minding the store had trouble with my name.

  22. what says:

My polling place was a church as well. Churches don’t see much activity around here so I guess it’s nice that they are used for something constructive every four years.

  23. quantum_flux says:

What exactly do you mean, Physics101, when you say atheists are not equal? Atheists enjoy the same rights that everybody else in this country enjoy. It’s not like atheists are second class citizens or anything. I openly tell people that I’m atheist, nihilist, rational objectivist, secular humanist, or whatever and they still treat me the same. Sure, I get the whole “you’ll go to hell if you don’t repent” every once in a while, but I just laugh and then fire back with “I don’t need to repent, I’m not doing anything wrong or I believe in the moral zietgiest” and they just understand. Then, it’s game to talk about whatever (mostly science, economics, or politics) and I don’t seem to have a problem. So, where is the second class citizenry or percieved unequality in that?

  24. godless sodomite says:

Atheists enjoy the same rights that everybody else in this country enjoy.

I agree, its not as if atheists are second class citizens like us gays are.

  25. Asemodeus says:

Went to the elementary school down the road and just walked in and voted, no lines at all. Maybe because I got there at around 3 p.m today and anybody who was voting already did so.

Had some funny on the way there. I was getting off the highway from college because I just finished a DiffEQ test, and there was a cop on a bike. He got ahead of me on the road as we both went straight for the school. Took me about half of the way there to figure out that this cop was going to the same place that I was.

Also fun fact about voting. Is it legal in the USA for a dead person to vote? Yes it is actually. See if you mailed in your absentee ballot and for some reason you die before election day, your vote still counts.

More likely has to do with the hassle of going over each of the ballots to make sure that the person who mailed it in is still alive. So they just don’t bother.

  26. David Silverman dsilverman says:

    the hateful bitch is defeated!

  27. quantum_flux says:

Gays have moved up from 3rd class citizenry to 2nd class citizenry, and are on the way up to 1st class just like everybody else. Still not much to complain about. One may think that hot le-sbians may achieve the mythical 0th class some day, a super double standard.

  28. pixel says:

No wait for me today. The lines were crazy long last week for early voting so I decided to wait and I’m glad I did.

I’m worried about our Prop. #2 (One man/one woman marriage crap) Right now it’s 62% yes. (Yes means voting FOR a state constitutional amendment defining marriage as between one man & one woman.)

Crazy me – I’m kinda against putting an amendment in the constitution that takes AWAY rights!

  29. nissimlevy says:

A week ago. Went to a recreation center for my early vote.

  30. UnGodly says:

quantum_flux, let me know when your civil rights are on the ballot. Then we can talk about how lucky gays are.

I voted about 8:30 this morning in the small city of Palm Springs, CA. There were no lines. I voted in favor of my continuing to have equal rights, I don’t care if I did make the Baby Jesus cry.

Yesterday I saw Google Ads in favor of the anti-gay Jeebus-brand California Proposition 8 suddenly appear on all of my websites. Even sites with nothing to do with Jeebus or other political issues. They were all over a site about celiac disease, for example. I have perhaps a million webpages, possibly several million, on over 125 domains. I responded by cancelling my Google Ads account and spent yesterday, last night and today removing Google Ad code from all of my websites.

This shit’s over, Fox has called Ohio for Obama, and he’s beating the dog piss out of McCain in PA thus far & all of the population (and vote) dense Obama-favoring counties in & around Philly haven’t reported yet.

  33. anadrol says:

Can the Dem’s get to 60 in the senate?

  34. marazof says:

I am in S. Florida. My husband and I went this morning to vote and it took us 2 hours. They were having issues with the machines.

Hopefully FL won’t screw up again. And with amendment 2 things don’t look good here. 62% voted yes.

  35. Larry Reynolds rainbows4dinosaurs says:

    Obama wins,

Several million cracks that Hillary Clinton put in the glass ceiling, and Sarah Pallin managed to repair every last one of them.

  42. NotSoFast says:

McCain’s concession speech was the classiest I’ve heard since George McGovern’s in 1972.

I hope all this sweetness and light survives Jan. 20, but I’m not optimistic.

  43. what says:

    Neo

Palin didn’t repair anything. She has just caused the GOP to lurch further to the right – a shift which will further alienate Americans.

Evangelicals will be the hardest hit by the BushCo’s failed economic “policy” and there wont be much money flowing into Palin coffers.

Fiscal conservatives please form an orderly line to extract your pound of flesh from your former social conservative allies. Oh to hell with it. Sick’em!

  44. UnGodly says:

McCain’s speech was very admirable, good on him!

And our new President gave a very good speech too.

  45. sam moore jr says:

I voted at Emmanuel Baptist Church here in Raleigh,NC and got there about 4:00 PM and didn’t have to wait. Just about all of my people won (not all but most) including Kay Hagan over the atheophobe Elizabeth Dole. My Unitarian church can’t endorse candidates during the campaign but we can celebrate victory– next Sunday will be interesting and delightful.

  46. what says:

I stayed up long enough to see prop 8 losing in Calif. The rural areas, where the evangelicals live, usually report first so it’s looking like it will be no on 8.

  47. what says:

Sorry that was prop 4 that’s losing. But prop 8 could yet fail. Need …. sleep ….. zzzzzz…

  48. Obeah says:

    Imagine that.

America voted in a black arab muslim Marxist with known ties to domestic terrorists who wants to destroy the coal industry!:)

I guess all that earnest praying didn’t work. I guess this must be god’s will.

I hope all the conservatives will take the time to notice that the reaction around the world is extremely positive. Obama’s election has regained much of the good will that was squandered by Bush.

He has a lot to live up to but from a Canadian perspective America is back on track. CONGRATULATIONS AMERICA.
