I Didn’t Even Know Who Hagan Was Until HateZilla Dole’s Commerical

http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/archives/individual/2008_10/015426.phphttp://beltwayblips.com/video/dole_s_promise_ad_on_hagan/I used to like Liz Dole, until she turned into “HateZilla”

October 29, 2008WHEN THE GOING GETS TOUGH, THE WEAK GET RIDICULOUS…. Recent polling shows Sen. Elizabeth Dole (R) trailing in her re-election fight in North Carolina against Democrat Kay Hagan, so it stands to reason that she’s getting a little desperate.I didn’t think she’d get this desperate.Sen. Elizabeth Dole’s latest advertisement suggests her Democratic opponent,Kay Hagan, is a godless heathen.”A leader of the Godless Americans PAC recently held a secret fundraiser for Kay Hagan,” the 30-second spot says, showing footage of the group’s members talking about their atheist beliefs on cable news.”Godless Americans and Kay Hagan. She hid from cameras. Took godless money,” the ad concludes. “What did Kay Hagan promise in return?”At the very end of the ad, a voice sounding like Hagan’s says: “There is no God.”Seriously, Dole used a Hagan impersonator to make voters think she’s an atheist. It’s hard to know where to start with an ad this deplorable. First, Hagan is actually a Sunday school teacher and an elder in her church. Second, the fundraiser in question was co-hosted by 40 people, one of whom is on the board of an atheist political action committee. Third, there’s nothing scandalous about non-believers.And fourth, what the hell is “godless money”?Hagan held a press conference this morning with her family and pastor to denounce the ad, and announced that if Dole didn’t pull the ad, she would seek a cease-and-desist order.Even in a campaign cycle filled with sleazy, deplorable attacks, Dole has disgraced herself in a way few thought possible.

American Atheists has no official comment right now. But you can have your own.

Every day we see more and more thuggery from the Rethuglican Party. Payback day is next Tuesday.

    Ha Ha!

  2. charlie says:

The real question is whats gonna happen to the GOP when they loose everything in a big way soon…

will the GOP just be the GOD party, and if so, will that make room for a 3rd party…..or will the x conservatives kick the lord out…

  3. charlie says:

    Dave

I just viewed the Dole Commercial…..and I am completely offended, alienated and disgusted by it…..I think that my views were trampled on by this piece of backward thinking dung pile….and If I think that….I cant imagine what you and Ellen think…..

have these dumb fucks broken the law anywhere….slander…This crap really boils my blood

  4. fosters24 says:

Wow, I’m even offended that they consider a commercial stating a candidate for elections associates with atheists as slander.

  5. what says:

I think the question that AA should ask Dole point blank is: Do you think nonbelievers as well as believers have the right to seek representation in their government?

  6. what says:

The GOP social conservatives forced Palin upon McCain and a GOP loss on Tuesday will prompt GOP social liberals to blame defeat upon the GOP social conservatives. The war between GOP social conservatives and GOP social liberals will then commence – the bigger the loss on Tuesday the more intense the war will be. This means we have the potential to gloat well beyond Tuesday and the potential destruction of the GOP.

  7. CascadiaEventHorizon says:

Kay Hagan deserves an apology… But more importantly Godless Americans deserve an apology… If ‘Liz Dole was slandering Catholics, Protestants, Evangelicals, etc. in this manner there would be rioting in the streets. This is not behavior that they (Xtians) would tolerate, and neither should we.

  8. charlie says:

Slander is the communication of a statement that makes a false claim….

  9. drchris06 says:

If you read the flyer that E.Dole’s campaign sent out (I found it here)

    http://friendlyatheist.com/5016/republicans-smear-senate-candidate-kay-hagan-for-meeting-with-atheists/

she refers to GAMPAC members as “vile”. Wow.

I’m working in North Carolina for 6 weeks in Feb/Mar. I’ll proudly wear my ATHEIST t-shirt there.

By the way “godless money” is what we SHOULD have – but they stuck ‘in god we trust’ on all the bills 50 years ago. Another fight for another day.

  10. CascadiaEventHorizon says:

    What:

I don’t think the GOP will be gone for good. They will adapt like they have here (Washington State). It is political suicide to run for state office without acknowledging the need for church & state separation. That’s why Dino Rossi (GOP) might win my states top job this year. Even though he’s a typical pro-life fundy, he’s running as a fiscal conservative (and downplaying his faith). That’s the only way to get elected in a state that’s at least 28% heathen.

    What Said:
“The war between GOP social conservatives and GOP social liberals will then commence – the bigger the loss on Tuesday the more intense the war will be.”

Music to my ears, surely their blood shall be upon them.

Too bad Mrs Dole did not call Ms Hagan a dyke too, she could have offended quite a few more Americans and still stayed within Party of Jesus dogma guidelines.

Blessed is the smear, for Jeebus loves deceit, Amen.

Someone should tell Mrs Dole that she can buy Jeebus Hates You merchandise at http://Jeebus.biz/

  12. reason says:

Dole is old school and out of touch she may still win but this bash atheists, gays whoever is wearing thin even here in the bible belt.We in the south have had to accept a revolution in social change these past 40 yrs and i think we did it pretty well this makes me confident. As long as Atheists stand up for TRUTH we will progress never forget the otherside has built on a foundation of lies.

  13. reason says:

Looks like clinton will be vice president after all.

    Reason:

Try to stay on topic. Almost every thread is hijacked by you or phreddy spewing nonsense.

I’m not saying anything to the validity of your claim. I’m just trying to keep this on point.

I seriously don’t know what makes me more furious about this whole situation. What Dole did in her ad, or the notion that being an Atheist (or even ASSOCIATING with Atheists) is somehow un-American or unfit for office.

What is “Godless money”? Why are they showing Dave on Bill-O? Why is this relevant to the election?

I usually try to stay civil at all times. But fucking Rethuglican bigots need to get themselves in the 21st century. Im am as proud an American as any, and I am NOT going to be made a second class citizen. I offer my middle finger to anyone who tries to say otherwise.

Besides, the Christian hypocrites in office have been in enough sex scandals for all of us. When they can keep their dicks out of kids and hookers, THEN we can talk morality.

    This makes my blood boil.

  15. sam moore jr says:

I finally saw the Elizabeth Dole atheophobic ad– it infuriated me,too. Especially when they end with a Kay Hagan impersonator saying “there is no god”. I hope all the Atheists and other heathens in North Carolina will get out and vote Tuesday. Good news: Dole is behind in the polls. I sure hope Dole gets beat.

  16. Cynic says:

    My two cents:

WTF? Where’s the outrage? For that matter, where’s the outrage over people trying to take Obama down by suggesting he’s a Muslim? You hear stuff, here and there, from commentators, but not nearly at the level and frequency you should. In this case though, the implication was far more direct, far more pointed and blatant.

  17. Cynic says:

    Here ya go, Reason:

    My favorite part:

“Of course, it’s distantly possible that Obama’s grandparents may have planted the announcement just in case their grandson needed to prove his U.S. citizenship in order to run for president someday. We suggest that those who choose to go down that path should first equip themselves with a high-quality tinfoil hat. The evidence is clear: Barack Obama was born in the U.S.A.”

Heh. Got your hat on, Reason? ;-)

(To GodlessMorality: Sorry for expanding the thread subversion, but the format of this blog doesn’t really allow for topic deviation by any other means. No one here should be expected to ask Dave to create a separate blog entry everytime they want to interject something. That said, sure, anything can get carried away.)

    Fascinating…

Aside from the possibility of the last quote, what’s inaccurate about the ad?

There are only 2 reasons to give politicians money…

To buy favor…or to keep them off of your back…

  20. phreedm says:

And speaking speaking of being a “slow learner”….

But hey…what’s reality? One thing this election has proven…atheists do believe in the unknown…regardless of what they may claim…

  21. cry4turtles says:

Didn’t E. Dole claim to be pro-choice when her hubby ran? Wouldn’t that make her a heathen as well? Or did she flip-flop back to fundie when hubby lost?

  22. godless sodomite says:

Greetings from sunny Spain! Ill be back home in NC in a few days but in the meantime I have decided that I want to live in Barcelona. I had no idea how fantastic this city would be.

Dont worry about Dole as she hasnt a chance in hell of being re elected. She is totally useless and ranks almost at the bottom of effectivness among senators (93rd). Kay Hagan has a strong lead right now here in NC and Obama has a strong lead againt McCain. The days of Republican power are over.

  23. TXatheist says:

Right now in Texas we have a political race where Keel is saying her opponent, Bolton, was proud of voting against putting under god in the texas pledge(yes, tx has a pledge). How dare Bolton realize it will be challenged once the US Pledge is corrected and cost taxpayers money.

All right, you can come home but keep your passport handy just in case.

  25. teammarty says:

I’m equally (if not more, you expect this crap from the Republithigs but it’s new coming from the not-so-nazi wing of the Republicrat party. But they do think that they have to “track right” to win) offended by the response of the so called liberal.

Shame on us for not Zieg Heiling when told to.

The message from the Democrats has been pray or get out. Sit down and shut up. SILENCIO!!!

If they don’t want our votes, we should respect their wishes and not waste our votes on them.

Still Dole only was the 2nd worst person in the world on Countdown (Olbermann MSNBC)

The worst was our old friend Dennis Prager (who was in the non-debate with Frank Z at the last convention) for claiming that equality is not an American value.

As Keith asked him, “What country do you come from??

  27. phreedm says:

    Comment from: teammarty

“Always vote for principle, though you may vote alone, and you may cherish the sweetest reflection that your vote is never lost.”

And exactly what principle would you be voting for when you cast your vote for Barry…?

  28. CM says:

There was a poll conducted by a university that said atheist Americans are the most despised group in America. Trailing behind were Muslims and homosexuals.

Nontheists in America must find a way to organize and assert themselves better if they ever want their voices taken seriously by the media and elected officials. Right now they are merely disgruntled voices on the internet.

  29. eyesofsilver says:

I Didn’t Even Know Who YOU were Until Dole’s Commercial, thanks to all the free pub she gave you :-)

This election season …er… the past 30 years have convinced me without question that Christianity is the root of all evil. Theo-cons like this ridiculous excuse for a woman DOle MUST BE STOPPED.

    I’m all in.

  30. eyesofsilver says:

    Comment from: phreedm

And exactly what principle would you be voting for when you cast your vote for Barry…?

Speaking for myself, I’m voting for a return to the Rule of Law (and the golden opportunity to get the Freedom of Choice Act FOCA passed).

  31. charlie says:

    Dave

What does Edwin Kagen think about this commercial….has your character been defamed….

  32. timplausible says:

Why does American Atheists have no comment on this yet? This has made it to national news – and the story is the same everywhere: Everyone is outraged over the lie and the slander. Everyone is implicitly agreeing how awful it is to accuse someone of being atheist. Everyone is ACCEPTING Dole’s underlying bigotry: that atheists are unsavory people that you shouldn’t associate with, and you certainly better not be one. Hagan’s outrage over the accusation is just as insulting.

Where is our voice? This is blatant bigotry now escalated to the national scale. We need to speak out.

  33. tarma says:

I second timplausible’s questions. Why is nothing official being said? It’s all over the news.

  34. teammarty says:
