Religoulous — Did you see it yet?

http://www.lionsgate.com/religulous/I think this will be the funniest movie in a very long time. Will you see it? Did you see it? Did you see it with other Atheists?

    Dave,
Thanks for the link. Really looking forward to see it. The previous were hilarious! Good times.

Have not seen it yet, would like to. He is funny until he starts with his new age woo woo.

I saw it today and thought it was great. He pulled no punches when dealing with the three big religions and some of the smaller cults too. Part of it was even filmed right here in Raleigh, NC. Go see it.

saw it last night with the wife and daughters. There were some funny moments but a lot of sobering ones as well. overall a good flick exposing religious foolery across the board.

I saw it and thought it was great. My only disappointment: The theater was only about 20% full.

My Son(19) and I (both atheists) are going to see it on Monday due to our schedules. We were both surprised it was playing at all in Oklahoma. Can’t wait to see it and Buy the DVD.

Another good movie to see about wacky religious people is “Where is Osama Bin Laden”

The Railto theatre in downtown Raleigh where I saw it was absolutley packed and the audience obviously was enjoying the show based on the laughter and applause. Very encouraging.

Some theatres are reporting xian protesters.

  8. godless sodomite says:

uh that should be Rialto theatre

I saw it opening Friday night and there was a good crowd but not capacity. Audience reaction indicated that I was in a theatre full of heathens. I’m afraid however that Bill Maher is preaching only to the saved: fundies won’t see it. I want to see it again and then buy the DVD. By the way there were no religious protestors. The only movie I’ve seen with Christian protestors was The Last Temptation of Christ about 20 years ago.

A reporter once asked Mark Twain what he thought of a comic opera he’d just seen. Twain replied, “it was funny, but it wasn’t damned funny.”

That (and you should pardon the reference to damnation, heh heh!) was my feeling about Religulous. I went to see it Monday with a bunch of folks from our local atheist group and there was a fair crowd for a weekday performance. I did a lot of smiling and chuckling but I thought there were only a few real belly-laugh moments (like the look on Arkansas Senator Mark Pryor’s face when he realizes he’s admitted that… naw, I won’t spoil it for you!). Mine was the minority opinion though. Most of our group was rolling in the aisles.

I’ll see it when it comes on pay-per-view. I’m not into theaters; nothing beats my cozy farm house for dinner and a movie.

    Long time, no post.

Saw it opening night, and the theater was full. Saw it with an atheist group we hang out with, and we all loved the movie. Many very funny moments, but I doubt that many religious people will see it, and if they do, they probably won’t get its message.

    Highly recommended.

I thought this too at first but I am now thinking that this film will be seen by many who are questioning their faith and it might also be a call to action for nonbelievers to be emboldened to come out of the closet and start to openly challenge superstition instead of giving faith a free pass.

The figures suggest that it is doing very well for a small budget indie film (unlike Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed which tanked in the theatres).

I’m anxious to see it. If anyone is interested there’s a heck of a discussion going on about this movie over on http://www.Imdb.com

Saw it opening night with an atheist friend (who until recently was my manager at work). The theater was fairly full. I felt a little bad for the two senior couples ahead of me that asked for two tickets to “religous”. I hope they weren’t too shocked.

There were plenty of laughs from the audience. I saw it at the Galaxy theater in Cary (near Raleigh, NC) where they serve beer, so I missed a few minutes when I had to load and unload (not in that order).

I have read a few critiques comdeming the film for its huge lies. The funny part is that the big lie they were were harping about was that the trucker chappel was near Charlotte, NC, not Raleigh.

Looks like I will have to wait for DVD or PPV as it is not playing anywhere near North Florida.

    Stupid friggen bible belt!

  17. viking7686 says:

We saw it on opening night. I offered a 2 dollar rebate to people wearing an atheist shirt, and 4 if it was a shirt from our local group or american atheist shirt… we had 16 people show up and I paid out 32 dollars.

The movie was very well done, the packed theater laughed often and heartily and applauded at the end.

It was also a great place to meet prospective members by handing out cards and fliers in the lobby.

  18. karen says:

I just checked my local theaters. Religulous is not showing anywhere within an hour’s drive from where I live. :-( Guess I’ll have to wait for the DVD.

    *sigh*

  19. marazof says:

It was hilarious. I watched it with my husband the day it came out.
We felt a little out of place because we were the only ones that were under the age of 30. Everyone else was over 50, but we all had a great time.

  20. posterelli2 says:

Well, being somewhat in the south, they won’t put it in just any theater especially considering the theater is owned by someone who is religulous.
I will drive to see it this coming week.
We have to support people with courage like Bill.

  21. leftylucy says:

Dave! Hi, I will never forget your face. I saw you at all the conventions I attended. Missed the last three. I need a dude to travel with.
I looked on Fandango to see where Religulous was playing. I live close the the Corpse of Christ, Texas. The closest theater that was showing it was Denver, Colorado. GD Red State!!! But Joe Z. from Austin told me it was playing there so hope springs eternal. But it’s 3 hours away and I am going to the TexasFreethoughtConvention in Austin on October 26th. By then the movie will be gone. Anyone out there want to meet me in Austin and shake my hand? Lynne

  22. Laxmi says:

I live in Houston, TX and I and my husband wanted to watch religulous this weekend. I was shocked to discover that none of the near by theaters are showing this.

Can Bill Maher do something about this? :)

  23. Prosotana says:

I saw it a few weeks ago with my boyfriend. We went to a noon showing, not that many people, probly like 20. Most of the crowd was younger but there were a few older couples. They didn’t seem pissed off lol I liked it very much, it expresses everything we so desperately try to explain and shows how silly it all is. yay Mahr!
