Wow. That was fast. I spent the weekend with freaks (Happy 39), geeks, and Christians with drinking problems. Good times. Here’s a political article that really disappointed me. I used to like mccain — really, I did. But now, in the face of defeat, he is losing his integrity.
“There’s no question that we have to change the subject here,” a senior Republican operative told The Post’s Michael D. Shear in a story published Saturday. The “subject” in question is the economy and how to fix it. As Americans have taken their eye off the ball — that is, off John McCain’s sterling qualities of character and command — by focusing on the economy, Barack Obama has surged into the lead nationally and in many key battleground states. So long as the candidates talk about that pesky economy, McCain’s handlers have realized, McCain will continue to swoon. Thus the campaign has announced that it will go on the attack again on the momentous topics of Obama’s ties to the Rev. Jeremiah Wright and Bill Ayers, the onetime Weatherman who has been a University of Illinois education professor for nearly two decades.Campaigning on Saturday in Colorado, Sarah Palin accused Obama of “palling around with terrorists” by associating with Ayers, citing as her source a New York Times story from that morning. In fact, the story concluded that the Obama-Ayers “relationship” consisted of both men attending the board meetings of two Chicago organizations and that there had been no contact between the men, other than bumping into each other on the sidewalk (they live in the same neighborhood), since Obama went to the U.S. Senate in January 2005.
How long will it be before they announce the death of bin Laden? I would bet money they announce it before November.

I’m not sure it would help their campaign all that much. I think most Americans care more about providing for their families – in this economic debacle – than they do about getting Osama. I think now people pay lip service to the hunt for Osama, but actually don?t care much about it. Announcing his death would be a bit anti-climatic.
Just a little anecdote for you all, my wife was having a phone conversation with her mother (a devout, rural Midwestern Christian) when the subject of Obama came up. Her mother said, “I don’t know about him. With a name like that, you have to wonder if he’s a terrorist”.
Unfortunate as it is, that’s the kind of nitwit thinking Obama faces in this election.
FemBush was speaking in the present tense when she claimed that Obama IS palling around with terr’ists.
This is a false statement that she knew to be false, thus it is not by any means a mistake, an error, or an exaggeration, it is simply, plainly and actually a lie.
Do we really want to elect a senile tool of corporate lobbyists and a lying moron for Jeebus?
If Jeebus wants them to win is it OK for them to tell any kind of a lie at all?
Do we want another idiot/vicious liar team in the White House?
How has having a deceitful moron for President worked out over the last 8 years?
Maybe – but I think it’s more likely that there will be a conveniently timed terrorist incident or scare in the U.S. Sure do hope I’m wrong, but I would not put anything past McCain et al. They are desperate.
Tarma,
The moment a campaign begins insinuating their opponent is a terrorist, it smacks of desperation. It’s very sad to watch. Pathetic actually.
DVW
I agree. Very desperate.
Dave
I don’t think you ever really liked McCain. I think you liked the image that his wife’s money bought for him. I should say the “images” his wife bought for him because there have been many.
John “Keating Five” McCain is all about McSame – just another upwardly-failing child born to privilege.
McCain is a dipshit. In 1995, when we lived in Arizona, we requested assistance from him and from Jon Kyl in a military separation issue concerning our son. At least Sen. Kyl took some action, wrote some letters, and inquired on our behalf (though to no avail). McCain just blew us off. Even at that I still might have considered voting for him a few years ago as the lesser of two evils, but not any more. Now, he is just a mean-spirited old man on the verge of dementia who seems to think that the presidency is rightfully his just because he was a POW. What a crock.
When is the media going to say it like
it is. OBL kicked Bush’s a$$.
His stated goals were to get us in a protracted war in a muslim country and
bankrupt the US.
“mission accomplished”
Tarma,
Why announce that Osama’s dead when theres a better alternative?
The BEST alternative is to simply say that “Jesus is Returning”!!!!
…but only on the McPalin ticket.
hallelujah!
hallelujah!
hallelujah!
Fascinating that not a single one of you addressed the issue raised by the posted article…
So speaking of morons…
I see that all of you agree with age discrimination…
That you do believe in a “religious test” for the president…
As for a terrorist attack…don’t worry. NObama’s foreign advisors have already met with the president of Syria…
I’m curious why so many of you are so blind to the obvious main stream media coverup for NObama…

“So speaking of morons.”
gee, aren’t you the one who is always claiming that the one who resorts to name calling has no case to make?
then he asked:
“I’m curious why so many of you are so blind to the obvious main stream media coverup for NObama????”
we are curious why you are so blind to everything that is not republican or xtian?
Sayonara
Phreeky’s just pissed because his xian rethuglican ideology has left him flat broke. He would bail out but he’s got too much emotionally invested in his fantasy at this point. Have pity on him. It’s fun!
The biggest economic disaster in 75 years hits and John “Keating Five” McCain thinks that Americans can be distracted by the faux Ayers-Obama story. This pathetic ploy will only underline just how out-of-touch McSame is with America.
Keating April 1998 KPNX
My father and mother are 2 and 3 years younger than John McCain, and based on their health and energy levels, they both think he is too damn old for the job. I guess my parents are ‘ageists’, huh?
And this is different from the Reagan campaign meeting with the Iranians about ensuring the hostages wouldn’t be released until the Carter administration had been over for 4 minutes… how? My, my you have an awful selective memory.
Pharyngla led me to this:

There is a Rolling Stone video, ’5 Myths about McCain’.
The piece by Matt Taibii, ‘Mad dog Palin’ is a delicious bit of writing.
Comment from: Ren
Hmmm….yes they are.
Hmmm…Ren, you can’t be serious. You honestly still believe this lie which was proven false over 20 years ago?
Comment from: sayonara
This statement makes no sense…
But blind to this?
Coris is in Kenya and was planning a news conference at 10 am to discuss NObama’s actual place of birth and also about his half brother who lives on less then $20.00 per year. (so much for being my brothers keeper).
Oddly enough, the Kenyan government picked him up and is holding him at immigrations. How much do you want to bet he’s released AFTER tonights debate, and that it will all be an innocent misunderstanding?
Regardless of what you think of Corsi, this action should raise red flags…
But then again…what do facts matter?
Do facts really matter…?
Fact Number One: It was liberal Democrats, led by Senator Christopher Dodd and Congressman Barney Frank, who for years– including the present year– denied that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were taking big risks that could lead to a financial crisis.
Alan Greenspan warned them four years ago. So did the Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers to the President. So did Bush’s Secretary of the Treasury, five years ago.
We also hear that it is the free market that is to blame. But the facts show that it was the government that pressured financial institutions in general to lend to subprime borrowers, with such things as the Community Reinvestment Act and, later, threats of legal action by then Attorney General Janet Reno if the feds did not like the statistics on who was getting loans and who wasn’t.

Surely you have a reputable link that disputes this assertion? Put up or shut up.
I too think that mccain is both too old and too unhealthy to be president and I think that palin is too stupid and uncurious to be vice president so I proudly wear the label of bigot on all of these counts. Shouldnt we demand the best of the best out of our president instead of voting for someone that we would most like to have a beer with? I dont want someone with anger issues who graduated fifth from the bottom of his class or a folksy born again hockey mom who looks forward to Armageddon to have the nuclear codes. I want someone who is young, healthy, and graduated magna cum laude from Harvard law school. I might not agree with many of obamas soc1alist leanings but the thought of a mccain, or horror of horrors, a palin presidency is forcing my reluctant vote for him. Obama is leading now in all of the major polls and in all of the swing states so maybe there is hope for America and the world after all.
Godless Sodomite,
I fear that in our current culture of celebrating mediocrity and anti-intellectualism, we shouldn’t expect more from the American public. Phreedm and Tim are choice examples.
I can only hope that with the destruction of our economy, the failures in both our wars and the general incompetence permeating Washington, Americans will finally step out of their bubble of denial and take personal responsibility for what has happened ? because these problems are a reflection of our choices as a society. I think only then will American’s begin to do what is necessary to better this country. Maybe it?ll start with this election…maybe not.
Here’s one for Phreedie,

Hallelujah, Jebus will pay those bills for you, just you wait and see.
On topic, I hope the Keating Five scandal does come up in the debate. You couldn’t get a more relevant piece of track record with which to bludgeon your opponent. I think that the terrorist angle isn’t going to overshadow the failed economic policies of the Republicans.
After all “Joe 6 Pack” probably cares more about his financial future.
No, this election will be about the economy.
Ah Ren…
I’ll use an atheists favorite line…
You claim its true…prove it.
DVW…
I see you’re a fan of “Black Theology”…
Then you’re hallucinating.
I’m not “fan” of any variety of Christianity.
