Official Thread — RNC – McBush/FemBush ’08

American Atheists supports the separation of church and state and does not endorse candidates or parties. This is the official thread for the Republican National Convention of Christian Conservatives.Dave’s opinion (again)

Anyone who thinks “god did it” is science is either too ignorant to be President, or too dishonest (and is lying to get votes). We’ve had 8 years with a stupid President. When Bush was elected, he was a good-looking, Christian Conservative with far too little experience, and everyone knew he wasn’t too bright. See how well it worked out? Ms. Palin seems to be a female Bush.

‘Creation science’ enters the race’GOVERNOR: Palin is only candidate to suggest it should be discussed in schools.By TOM KIZZIAAnchorage Daily News(Published: October 27, 2006)The volatile issue of teaching creation science in public schools popped up in the Alaska governor’s race this week when Republican Sarah Palin said she thinks creationism should be taught alongside evolution in the state’s public classrooms.Palin was answering a question from the moderator near the conclusion of Wednesday night’s televised debate on KAKM Channel 7 when she said, “Teach both. You know, don’t be afraid of information. Healthy debate is so important, and it’s so valuable in our schools. I am a proponent of teaching both.”… The Republican Party of Alaska platform says, in its section on education: “

We support giving Creation Science equal representation with other theories of the origin of life. If evolution is taught, it should be presented as only a theory.

Oh, like you’ve never hallucinated a talking snake before Dave! Seriously, every story in the Bible is either a myth, dream, or daytime hallucination. There are impressionable people who actually read the Bible and have those same hallucinations. It doesn’t, however, mean that they are going to “push the button” do to a percieved threat though.

I don’t know the veracity of this claim, and I know that pictures can lie, but assuming none of these have been doctored, it sure looks bad for the conservative Palin Clan. Oh, and not too good for McCain, either.

    Nuclear Nads,
That was actually a fairly inteligently written post. Maybe we are not enemies after all.
One, I am NOT a fan of the fact that generally only two parties have a viable candidate for election. I am sickened when any candidate talks about their “faith”. I vomit when they talk about giving taxpayer money to faith based charities, because we all know they employ only members of their churches in their campaigns and seed their generosity with invitation, if not obligation, to membership.
But, in modern history there has been no other viable candidates, other that Ross Perot, and as great a candidate as he was, before he succombed to blackmale and withdrew from the race, his chances were pretty slim.

As far as the Libertarians are concerned, a few years ago I read an article about their platform to eliminate political campaigning to a federaly funded publication in which each candidate explained their political position, and all other forms of advertising and fund raising was prohibited. I liked it, ALOT. But, I have also read things about libertarian candidates who were also trying to peel off their own little slice of the religious right.
Bob Barr and Ralph Nader have no chance to do anything in this election, other than to chisel off enough votes to annoy one candidate or the other. My best wishes are to Barr, because the better he does, the worse McBush does.
But, the reality on the ground, here and now is that we have a choice between a party tainted by the religious right and one that is controlled by it.
Believe it or not, yesterday I was called at home by the Obama campaign because I donated during the primaries. They wanted more money for the presidential campaign. I told her no, and I told her why, and hopefully the message makes it to the top. No on free trade, and no on faith based initiatives.

Both should be taught in school. It is only fair that both viewpoints be shared and discussed. Just as Atheists don’t want Christianity shoved down their throats or their kid’s throats, we Christians don’t want evolution exclusively forced down ours…

  7. avatar what says:

    pr

Both? What about all the other silly creation stories? Should those be taught. How about classical mechanics, Maxwell’s Laws, Quantum mechanics, Equilibrium and Non-equilibrium thermodynamics? Can these be “shoved down their throats” in, oh let’s see, say a science class perhaps? Get over it you ignorant backwater knuckle dragger – evolution is both fact and highly successful theory.

  8. avatar Ren says:

    pr,

Don’t want the truth shoved down your kid’s throats? You are free as an American to send your kids to any parochial school in the country, where they will be inculcated in fairytales for adults. Why, in THIS country, you can even send them to a Madrasa, if you like. Or, you could just homeschool them and ensure their ignorance. Your call.

  9. avatar pr says:

Ren and “What”, you need to sit back and take a deep breath… I agree that there are some elements of evolution that are factual – for instance, in taking several courses in Geography and Geology during my undergrad years, I know all about the various systems in our world that are constantly trying to attain a state of equilibrium (weather patterns, stream/river flow, etc.). However, I believe a Supreme Being (God) is who kicked it all off via the Big Bang and everything since has been the result of his divine plan for creation… furthermore, the intricacies and complexity of the human body just didn’t evolve out of “pond scum”.

  10. avatar Ren says:

Ah yes, the watchmaker god. So you are a Deist, and not a Christian?

  11. avatar pr says:

I am a Christian first and foremost. I believe God is alive and well and can intercede at any time relative to nature, life and circumstance.

So if God can intercede at anytime, where the hell was he during Katrina? Why did he allow the US to be mislead into the biggest blunder in the history of this country? Where was God on 9-11? Seeing as how the terrorists succeeded in their mission, I would guess he was on their side that day. After all, the last thing they did before dying was to praise him repeatedly.

If prayer works, why don’t you get down on your knees right now and suck my… I mean, pray that I see the light tonight. I’ll be sure to get up early tomorrow and let you know how that went. Or is that too much for your god? He is all powerful, right? He answers prayers all the time, right? Then get to it pr. But I’ll warn you, you had better wear your knee-pads, cause you’re going to be down there an awful long time.

  13. avatar pr says:

Ren, first off, whoever maintains this site ought to remove your vulgar overtones

Dissenting posts are welcomed, but preachy, vulgar, or hateful posts are deleted without apology.

To address your points, the terrorists were praising Allah, not God – there is a difference – just like their messiah was Mohammed and ours is Jesus Christ.

Secondly, the world we live in is imperfect as a result of original sin. There’s disease, famines, storms, violence, folks with an unlimited supply of capital and others barely getting by, etc. It can be a doggy-dog world at times filled with unfairness and disrespect.

To be honest, there are Christians, including me, that wonder why certain things happen or times when we get mad at God (death of a loved one for example). But at the end of day, one has to press forward and keep our focus on Him because he will see us through and one day, we’ll understand why some of these things happen.

One thing that amazed me after 9/11 was how many people began going to church and accepting Jesus into their hearts. I was also amazed at how many stories were told that involved folks who were delayed while enroute to the towers that day, thus sparing their life.

Maybe this was God’s plan – it served as a wake up call. I think he has special things in store for those folks who were spared, if they seek his will. I think for those family members or friends who had loved ones die, the events of 9/11 show how precious life is and how quick it can be taken away.

Regarding Katrina, it was a sickening tragedy that really showed how unprepared we were, both during and after the storm. My heart still goes out to those people affected. I think there is an element though where a person has to accept the risks that come with a job they decide to take, a habit they choose to become involved with, a house they choose to buy, the place where they choose to live, work and play, etc. If I take a job in the oil patch, my chances of bodily injury increase. Likewise, if I move to Southern California, the probability of experiencing an earthquake is higher than if I move to Vermont.

The point I am trying to make is that we all have the freedom to make choices. If I want to go out tomorrow and cheat on my wife, I can do so. If I want to go out tomorrow and put in a solid day of labor, I can do so. If I want to drink a 5th of vodka, I can do so. If I want to trade my pickup in and buy a motorcycle, I can do so. If I want to surround myself with abusive people, I can do so. But, with all these choices come risks and I have to be willing to mitigate them.

Fuck you! Who died and left you moderator? Your posts are preachy and I haven’t called for them to be removed. Ever hear of free speech? You ought to try it sometime. It’s very liberating.

To address your points, the terrorists were praising Allah, not God – there is a difference – just like their messiah was Mohammed and ours is Jesus Christ.

Are you really so stupid as to not realize that Yaweh, is Jehova, is G-d, is God, is Allah? That’s right mental midget, you pray to the same god the Muslims and Jews do. You all stem from the same prophet, Abraham. Not only that, but Mohammed is not the Muslim messiah, he was the Muslim Prophet. Were you aware that Muslims believe that Jesus was ALSO a prophet, just not the son of God? No, I didn’t think so.

Secondly, the world we live in is imperfect as a result of original sin. There’s disease, famines, storms, violence, folks with an unlimited supply of capital and others barely getting by, etc. It can be a doggy-dog world at times filled with unfairness and disrespect.

Wow! That’s some benevolent god-thingy you got there. And all because Adam ate from the tree of knowledge. Might I suggest YOU try eating from the tree of knowledge?

To be honest, there are Christians, including me, that wonder why certain things happen or times when we get mad at God (death of a loved one for example). But at the end of day, one has to press forward and keep our focus on Him because he will see us through and one day, we’ll understand why some of these things happen.

You know, delusions can be cured with medicine.

Millions of people buy lottery tickets everyday. Funny how it’s only a miracle to the statistical few that actually win, and to the rest of the dumb schmucks, it’s a monumental waste of money.

The point I am trying to make is that we all have the freedom to make choices.

Not if McSame and Sarah Barracuda get into office you won’t.

And if you were a Cath-o-lick Priest and wanted to diddle little boys… you could do so? Do you honestly believe that thousands of Priests, having molested tens of thousands of children, actually believe God was watching over them all the time? I wouldn’t be surprised if every one of them was a sham and was only using religion to control the lives of their sheep. So tell me pr, where was your god when all those innocent children were being raped, or was THAT all part of God’s plan as well?

You are one confused knuckle-dragger. We are talking about what should be taught in science classes – that pursuit of mankind whereby one builds models and tests them. We are not talking about “beliefs”. So either propose a test that would falsify your gawd assertion or shut up. An assertion untested is worth less than one that is tested and found to be wrong.

Under Jewish law, a mohel — someone who performs circumcisions — draws blood from the circumcision wound. Most mohels do it by hand, but Fischer uses a rare practice where he uses his mouth.

Preying on kids is a sickness just like frequenting prostitutes or engaging in homosexual sex. We agree on one thing – what these priests did to young kids for many years was just plain disgusting and unacceptable. The worst thing about it is what it did to the victims long term…

Walk a couple miles in my moccasins and then we can talk. I am sick of explaining my situation to every new dingleberry that shows up to blather on about their delusions. I’m quite sure others on this board are tired of hearing about it as well. Perhaps one of them will enlighten you as to my situation. If you think I harbor anger and frustration now, you ought to hear me when I am not on medication.

Go peddle your fairytales somewhere else.

Preying on kids is a sickness just like frequenting prostitutes or engaging in homosexual sex.

Get real. Thousands of priests, molesting tens of thousands of children is not a sickness, it is a conspiracy. A conspiracy that reaches right up to the very top of the Catholic Church heirarchy. You actually equate two consenting adults having gay sex with pedophile priests molesting children? You are one sick puppy, indeed.

We agree on one thing – what these priests did to young kids for many years was just plain disgusting and unacceptable. The worst thing about it is what it did to the victims long term…
