Obama-Biden!

WASHINGTON ? Senator Barack Obama has chosen Senator Joseph R. Biden Jr. of Delaware to be his running-mate, turning to a leading authority on foreign policy and a longtime Washington hand to fill out the Democratic ticket, people told of the decision said.Senator Joseph R. Biden Jr., chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee, questioning Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice during a committee hearing in January 2007.Mr. Obama?s selection ended a two-month search that was conducted almost entirely in secret. It reflected a critical strategic choice by Mr. Obama: To go with a running-mate who could reassure voters about gaps in his resume, rather than to pick someone who could deliver a state or reinforce Mr. Obama?s message of change.

Biden’s a good choice, except for the name. How long will it be before certain older-than-dirt Bushies “slip up” and instead of saying “Obama/Biden” they say “Osama Bin Laden”? It rhymes, so they must be terrorists.

I thought this was interesting: Since the Saddleback religious forum, a friend of mine told me recently about the Nader demonstration outside the event. He said that the people that gathered there showed up to oppose the religious coronation (or vetting) of candidates, and had a lot to say about the new American, “Holy Order of the Imperialistic duopoly”.

I Guess I will have to check out the Nader website in the coming days and see if I agree with anything else they say.

    The ticket should be reversed.

Wow…what else could you say? Biden? He’s the perfect choice…haha…

Aside fro the lap dog Tim Kaine, Biden is the only other person to say yes…

“I’ve had a great relationship [with Indian Americans],” Biden said. “In Delaware, the largest growth in population is Indian-Americans moving from India. You cannot go to a 7-Eleven or a Dunkin’ Donuts unless you have a slight Indian accent. I’m not joking.”

During the 2006 confirmation hearings for Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito, the Post’s Dana Milbank wrote this of Biden’s performance:

“Sen. Joseph R. Biden Jr., in his first 12 minutes of questioning the nominee, managed to get off only one question. Instead, during his 30-minute round of questioning, Biden spoke about his own Irish American roots, his “Grandfather Finnegan,” his son’s application to Princeton (he attended the University of Pennsylvania instead, Biden said), a speech the senator gave on the Princeton campus, the fact that Biden is “not a Princeton fan,” and his views on the eyeglasses of Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.).”

    Biden…how rich…this is going to be fun…

    Side note-

Biden’s a good choice, except for the name.

Aside from trying to hide behind it being “Dave’s” blog, since AA pays the tab, I’ll bet this is a direct violation of your “non-profit” status…

Jackass, it’s a personal blog. Look to your right for the explanation.
As usual, you left out some info:
“Dave’s opinions are not always the opinions of American Atheists, Inc”.

It’s going to be fun when Biden is your VP, too.

This is an excellent choice. Biden has a great history of foreign relations (something we so desperately need at this time), is very well spoken, and tells it like it is.
He won’t be a puppet for anyone.

Didn’t Joseph Biden get in trouble some years ago for giving a speech that was later discovered to be plagerized?

Other than that, who the heck is this guy? And why doesn’t he stand out for anything else? lolol

Obama should’ve picked Hillary. Now her fans are probably a little peeved. How will they vote? Better yet, why should they vote?

I can’t wait to see Monicagate II. It’ 100% inevitable with these two guys. They seem to ready and willing to be the target of Republican schemes like that, and still not a hint of talk about impeaching GW Bush…lol again.

Hillary wouldn’t take it again, and I would’ve cheered for her. Now we’ve got these mystery men who have gained their biggest spotlight by running for public office, ready to be pounced on.

What a letdown for 51% of our population!

    So BJ…

I’ll take it from your reaction that you wouldn’t have a problem with James Dobsom promoting his candidate on his personal blog, paid for by “Focus on the Family”?

I agree…Biden is the perfect choice. A Washington insider. Voted for the Iraq war. Stated publically that Obama wasn’t ready to be president during the primaries…

    So much for change…

    Joe,

What a letdown for 51% of our population!

Are you insinuating that just because I am a woman I would support Billary? I think it would be wonderful if a woman were to be elected president….just not that woman. Hillary (Obama is not a Muslim, AS FAR AS I KNOW) Clinton. Yeah, there’s an intelligent and honorable choice for ya.

  11. tarma says:

I can’t wait to see Monicagate II. It’ 100% inevitable with these two guys.

Nice. Your crystal ball tells you this?

Obama should’ve picked Hillary. Now her fans are probably a little peeved. How will they vote? Better yet, why should they vote?

Let see….they might vote against ‘pro-life administration’ McCain, for one thing. The next appointments to the Supreme Court are too important to sit this one out or vote Republican, IMHO.

During his presidential campaign, I saw Biden in an interview state that the US was definitely founded as a Christian nation on Christian values. That notwithstanding, I also think he’s a poor choice as a running mate for Obama for other reasons. For example, he makes Obama look even younger and more inexperienced. He’s also part of the old guard which probably will turn off alot of the base that already supports Obama. He’s smart, but he doesn’t know when to stop talking, plus he puts his foot in his month on a regular basis. I will probably write someone in this election. IMO, the Democratic party, as usual, is making the election as hard to win as possible. Someone younger from the south or midwest would have been a better choice I think.

I can’t wait for the bumper stickers — “O-B, it’s the way we should be”. ;-)

I was kind of hoping for Richardson myself, though Biden is probably a more realistic and useful choice at this point.

  14. what says:

    Cynic

I sighed relief when Richardson wasn’t picked. What did you like about him?

  15. what says:

Holy crap! Biden isn’t the incarnation of perfection. How will them Dems ever take the White House?

  16. shorebird says:

    Slogan seen on another site:
“One house, One spouse. Obama 08″

  17. jcc says:

Well of course Obama had to pick Biden after he said, ?I mean you got the first main-stream, African-American who?s articulate and bright and clean and a nice looking guy? about him; how else could he return the favor?

Proving once again that only Republicans can be racists?

  18. Cynic says:

I just thought Richardson seemed trustable, and that having him as VP might take some of the hysteria out of the immigration discussion.

  19. what says:

    Shorebid

    That is great!

    JCC

And that was racist because …?

    Cynic

I was a resident of NM in 2003. I will never forget an interview on KKOB radio with Richardson. It was the week before the Invasion of Iraq and there were a lot of protests happening in NM. Richardson was asked what he thought of the protesters. His response: “Ah, they’re just stuck in the sixties.”. The SOB was mocking the efforts of those that tried to stop that disaster in the making. I called his office numerous times over the following year to ask for an apology. None was given.

  20. jcc says:

And that was racist because …?

Could someone please explain to me how saying, ??you got the first main-stream, African-American who?s articulate and bright and clean?? could in any way be construed as a compliment to all blacks?

  21. Cynic says:

I didn’t think he was refering to all blacks.

  22. reason says:

Biden is a solid pick for the democrats.
Phreedm use that noggin in regard to mccain .look how he treated his first wife an just because he is against abortion being legal doesn’t mean he gives a hoot about illegal abortions.and his neocon foreign policy is a proven failure.we simply can’t fight the whole world.baldwin and barr are the only choices we to the right have.

  23. RedLilac says:

I was hoping for the guy from Indiana or Hillary. I don?t get a warm fuzzy felling from Biden. Maybe as I learn more about him, I?ll feel better. After all, if Obama gets elected and something happens to him, then Biden could be our President. We should be allowed to vote for Vice President too.

  24. shorebird says:

It’s time to forget about warm fuzzies.
We need separation between church and state and a candidate who will kick a$$ and take names and get-er dun with the religionistas in government.

  25. TXatheist says:

Two Northerners on the ticket, oh the rednecks will be squirming.

  26. posterelli2 says:

Biden is a good choice and the ticket should be reversed. However, we should likely start forgetting about these two parties. Aren’t we all selling ourselves short? We know we don’t care for either of these parties yet many of us continue to vote. Why not Libertarian or Green?
Unfortunately, the constitution party, is just the Republican Jr party in disguise.

  27. what says:

    Posterelli2

    Why not Libertarian or Green?

Because the consequences are obvious – Eight more years of the rethuglicans destroying our economy, foreign relations, and the constitution plus many more years of corporatists and religionsists on the Supreme Court.

  28. neowolfe says:

I dont know things that people who make a lot more money than me know, about why Obama chose Biden as a running mate instead of Clinton. I think maybe it might be the smear campaign she ran during the primaries that are already coming back to bite the democrats. There is also the fact that she’s a lightening rod for hatred. And those who feel she’s already served her eight years in the presidency. Then there are those who saw her crying about the support of her voters (ideal commander in cheif). Then there is the fact she refused to admit defeat when victory was mathmatically impossible, then called on Obama supporters to finance her arrogance.

Maybe she should be vice president. In that job she can do less damage than as a Senator.
