“Sanity” Plates

These aren’t Vanity plates. They are “sanity” plates, and there are lots of them. This first one is donated by our own Mushinronjya. The latter two are mine. How out can you be??? What’s on YOUR car??

I hope people notice my EVOLVE fish! :D

Who has the Texas plate? I must meet them.

In Jersey? East coast, this is nothing. The guy in Texas has cojones (unless he’s in Austin). Up here in the NW, you could get away with this in Seattle city limits, I’m sure, but forget the burbs, where there’s a church of some sort (protestant, evangelical, you name it) every quarter mile.

    Nice plates!

For some reason the NC DMV rejected my vanity plate of “COK SUKR”. I cant figure out why. :-)

Seriously, I do have a vanity plate but if I reveal it in here some religious nutter could figure out my identity.

What brave people. I rarely hesitate now to declare my lack of belief in most cases but I’ve not even dared put the fish with legs on my car. Here in the bibull belt I’d be keyed without a doubt.

Christians can be anything but Christian, you know . . .

  7. avatar dsilverman says:

What you can’t see on the bottom picture, is that this is a UNITED WE STAND patriotic plate. I like to mix atheism with patriotism as much as possible.

  8. avatar sam moore jr says:

You can plainly see that the Texas plate has a frame from Landover Baptist. I often listen to Christian radio with Pastor Deacon Fred in mind– it can be a hoot! Best wishes to those brave souls who sport such license plates. Alex: do you think the NC DMV would allow a No God plate?

  9. avatar Boise Jim says:

    Brave, indeed.
Had the evolve fish on my car and I got keyed.

    Love thy neighbor, my ass.

I have seen religious vanity plates here in NC (“4 Him”, “Pray”, etc) so I imagine that they wouldnt be able to reject an atheist plate on the grounds of equality. Try it and see even if you dont actually buy the plate but if you live anywhere in this state except here in Chapel Hill be ready to have your car vandalised.

  11. avatar NotSoFast says:

I thought you said your car was vandalized. Not in Chapel Hill?

I always go for the discarded “666″ plates that nobody else wants (ie, “666-ABC” as is the numbering scheme in Colorado). All you have to do is ask! The personnel in charge of issuing plates have no reason not to reach down and pull one from their pile that Satan-phobes have left behind. Not really atheistic, but, thanks to contributions from superstitious folks, it makes memorizing your own plate number easier (handy for a number of reasons/situations).

I hate to burst your bubble…but I believe the first picture is a hoax…

  14. avatar DD Dropout says:

Belief without evidence is just faith – worthless. Cite your evidence.

  15. avatar joe zamecki says:

Well I’ll ask again. Who’s the owner of the Texas plate, at the top of the photo? It says it’s from “Mushinronjya,” and I’m not familiar with this…person?

Does anyone know what “Mushinronjya” is?

    Joe

Still on vacation but found a moment and internet connection to post this:

Ron Suskind’s new book has exposed that the White House had concocted a fake letter from Saddam Hussein’s intelligence director, Tahir Jalil Habbush al-Tikriti, (backdated to July 1, 2001) that said Mohammad Atta, the believed leader of the 9/11 attacks, had trained in Iraq.

What fate should befall the Bushies? Is there a prison dark enough for this scum?

I see now, he’s the first one to have posted a comment on this thread. No problem.

I have the Evolve fish on my car. I used to have a science shark but it fell off. I bought another one but haven?t gotten around to putting it on yet. My vanity plate is cryptic so people have to ask. ?AASTDR 1? It stands for American Atheist State Director 1 for Illinois. I was the 1st under Ellen?s rein. I am a quality engineer in the construction/installation industry and thus visit the sites. It has gotten around to most of the field staff. When there is a new guy paired up with an older one, he?ll come up to me and say so&so told me to ask you what your plates stand for.

My predecessor under MMOH had to get the Illinois Secretary of State to walk through his ?ATHEIST? plate because it kept getting rejected. As far as I know, he still has that plate.

  21. avatar mushinronjya says:

That’s my plate! I’m the guy in Texas with that. :) Nobody has messed with my car yet. At least they wouldn’t while I’m around. :D

  22. avatar mushinronjya says:

phreedm… you go ahead and tell that to my car. I’m sure it would be very hurt. What part makes you think it’s not real?

Interesting story…. I asked for “NO GOD” and got it. I asked for “ATHEOS” and got rejected, twice.. I’m not on a final appeal where I had to write a letter and send it snail-mail. I’m awaiting the response on that. I can’t believe my Texas “NO GOD” got approved, but “ATHEOS” didn’t. They first said that it was a trademark. My second rejection they said it could be “offensive”. Let’s wait to hear about the 3rd occurrence. :) Meanwhile, I did a bunch of searches.. “SATAN”, “GODLUV”, “LUVGOD”, “JESUS”.. all these things are approved! I’m in Dallas, not Austin.

I got the science space ship for my car. Actually I got 4 of them. When people tell me that they like my emblem and ask where I got it, I tell them and then give them one and make them promise to go to Evolvefish.com and buy some to give away too. I need to buy some more of them.

Who knows if they do it but it’s always been a good conversation starter and it has the potential to spread the word.

Does this make me a missionary????

  24. avatar DD Dropout says:

    Heh. Maybe, shorebird, maybe.

Your comment made me think of the “fishers of men” bit.

You use a small fish as bait to draw people in. Here’s hoping some of them get permanently hooked.

  25. avatar TXatheist says:

No one has messed with my car either and it’s been awhile since I added the Darwin emblem. I’m in Round Rock which is not Austin but close enough geographically I guess.

    shorebird,

Yeah, Evolvefish.com is great. We’ve got the fish “n’chips” emblem on both of our cars, and I love my “so many christians, so few lions” bumper sticker. Have been in Texas a little over 2 years now, and no vandalism so far. The jehovah’s witnesses and others are too stupid to understand the “no bible thumpers” emblem I put up by our front door, though. One guy thought I had something against the Red Cross :)

Simple. Your pattern isn’t listed on the Texas DMV site…
