Sunday, August 17, 2008 The Wilson County, TN. Fair — a department of the county government — is holding an official “God and Country Day” on August 17, 2008. The GCD will include a parade honoring America’s servicemen and servicewomen. The theme of the event, though, excludes the many Atheists, Freethinkers, Humanists and other nonbelievers who have worn the uniform and served their country with dignity and pride! AMERICAN ATHEISTS asks that supporters of Foxhole Atheists meet at 12:00 noon (Sunday, August 17, 2008) at the ticketing area. We’ll have lunch inside the fairgrounds before heading over to the “God and Country Day” parade, wearing appropriate t-shirts to support our troops and, specifically, Foxhole Atheists! In addition to the GCD event, the Wilson County Fair is offering $2.00 off the cost of general admission to anyone showing a church bulletin. You can let Wilson County officials know about the discriminatory nature of this unconstitutional promotion of sectarian religion by calling 615-443-2626. Print out a copy of your local freethinkers’ group web page, or the American Atheists web site home page (http://www.atheists.org) and bring it with you. Demand the $2.00 off your general admission as well. If possible, please wear a T-shirt supporting Foxhole Atheists. http://www.zazzle.com/support_foxhole_atheists_shirt-235432947356878587 and http://www.zazzle.com/foxhole_atheist_t_shirt-235282694991467011 Show your support of Foxhole Atheists with this T-shirt. I agree…this county fair should be taken to task. The next night’s theme is Grandma, Grandpa and Senior Citizens Day…
That theme ignores 60% of America…
The nerve of these people…
On a far more important note…
The THE LARGE HADRON COLLIDER fires up this weekend with the hope of proving the “creation” of the universe…
For those who constantly complain about the poor education of science in America might be interested to know that President Ronald Reagan first proposed for this collider to be built outside of Dallas with the vision that America would lead the world in Physics…
It was the democratically controlled congress who killed the vision…
But don’t worry…the “messiah” is going to give us the “change we’ve been waiting for”….
Christians like to have it both ways. You support science when it *appears* to be on your side. You reject it when it does not. I doubt you are as enthusiastic about Evolution as you are about the Big Bang.
By the way, the Big Bang could have been spontaneous. The fact that you have no such experience with uncaused causes in your own little world is merely a prejudice.

So very true…
I’m glad you’re not prejudice against those who have found their faith from “uncaused causes” that you you do not understand…
At least someone on this board still has an open mind…
Comment from: thx1138
Actually I’m willing to discuss ALL possibilities discussing “uncaused causes”…are you?
By the way, the Big Bang could have been spontaneous.
Of course it was spontaneous…I fully support the theory of the Big Bang. I just don’t believe the universe is eternal…
Have you also studied the “Inflation Theory”? I fully support that also…
There goes that skipping record again.

phreedm,
I detect a note of sarcasm in your comment. Think for a moment how you might feel if your local government decided to use a community event as an opportunity to not only honor its Muslin citizens, but in doing so imply that all of its citizens are either Muslim, or insignificant?
This day is not so much a discount for Christians, as it is a tax on Atheists.
I am the organizer for the Nashville Secular Life group, and am responsible for raising the red flag on this event.
phreedm is a troll. The best thing to do is to ignore his comments because they are not anywhere near the topic.
Hello exquisitetruth,
Thank you for taking this cause up.
Wilson County thinks it is okay to preferential treatment to Christian Church-goers. Atheists, Jews, Hindus, Muslims, etc. are excluded from their discounting policy.
I will be unable to attend, but everyone who attends has my best wishes at the fair. I will be getting one of those “I Support Foxhole Atheists” T-shirts.
In reason,
Micah Cochran
Organizer, Florence United Nontheists
exquisitetruth – thanks for bringing this event to the light of day. I sure wish I could be there, but it’s just too far for me to make the trip without taking time off from work
My stupid job (along with the mortgage payment) get in the way of my activism. I need to win the lottery or something..
