How much of this is a reaction to a bad report, and how much is actually based on what Obama is really saying?

FriendlyAtheist traces some of the hysteria and misinformation: http://friendlyatheist.com/2008/07/01/barack-obama-on-faith-based-initiatives/

The comments Silverman makes about a lack of accountability doesn't mesh. Can you at least clarify whether the AA statement is based on Obama's actual statements or just some shoddy reporting and misinformation?

Yes tyro, I am aware that Obama claims his program will protect against discrimination, and he may even believe it. But IMO, that's a pretty fucking audacious hope.

You can't regulate a church, because church's can get away with practically anything in this country. I'm sure there are a lot of well meaning religious folks who will put this money put to good use, but there will also be many organizations who will exploit the hand out for everything it's worth and the courts will probably back them up on it.

Bad Obama.
Please tell me the following subject/verb typo only occurs on this webpage:

Obama wants to continue the discriminatory policy of taxing millions of Atheists, Freethinkers, Humanists and other Americans who profess no religious beliefs, and give that money to organized religion.
Speaking of faith-based waste, I had no idea that church people are still handing out those ridiculous Chick publications. I just had two very nice religious ladies show up at my door and the conversation went something like this:

Them: We'd like to invite you to join us at our church.

Me: No thank, you, I'm not religious.

Them: Well, religion has nothing to do with it. If you were to die today, how sure are you that you're going to heaven?

Me: I'm certain I'm not going to heaven and neither are you, because there's no such thing as a heaven.

Them: (blank stare because they've clearly never had to process the fact that there are real live atheists in their own neighborhood).

Then, as they fled in obvious discomfort (after saying sorry, although I don't know who they were sorry for, them or me), they gave me a flyer which turned out to be a Chick publication. Those things are just hilariously bad. Has anyone seriously ever been converted by reading one of those things?

But, it makes me wonder if our goverment has spent any money paying for those things?
Disappointing but hardly surpising, knowing how powerful the church is in the black community. He needs to mobilize all those deacons and preachers to get out the vote for him, especially down south. And at least it proves hes not a muslim.
Speaking of political and religious hypocrisy two senators implicated in extramarital sexual activity have named themselves as co-sponsors of S. J. RES. 43, dubbed the Marriage Protection Amendment. If ratified, the bill would amend the United States Constitution to state that marriage "shall consist only of the union of a man and a woman."
Sen. Larry Craig (R-ID), who was arrested June 11, 2007 on charges of lewd conduct in a Minneapolis airport terminal, is co-sponsoring the amendment along with Sen. David Vitter (R-LA). In July of 2007, Vitter was identified as a client of a prostitution firm owned by the late Deborah Jeane Palfrey, commonly known as The DC Madam. But let?s be fair. Larry Craig believes that marriage should be between a man and a woman, and that sex in public bathroom stalls should be between a man and a man.
Vote Libertarian if you really want change.

I dont dispute that many religious organisations do a lot of great social work but combined with their good deeds is religious prostelisation and discrimination based on sexual orientation (among other traits) which should disqualify them from receiving government funds. This is the real issue, not the good works that these faith based groups do.
