Good observation What but still, according to this survey 6% of Atheists say that they believe in a personal God. What is the reason for this?

So here was the actual question asked. Actually it was a two part question which could explain the odd results.

Question: Do you believe in God or a universal spirit? [IF YES, ASK]: Which comes closest to your view of God? God is a person with whom people can have a relationship or God is an impersonal force?

So if you answered that you believe in a “universal force” (many atheists would answer in the affirmative) you were then asked to select from a list that which comes CLOSEST to your views. Lame. Really lame.

Wierd result at first glance, I agree. But then I thought, it may not necessarily be incongruous for some atheists to believe in “god” in scientific terms, involving the physical laws, forces & order of the universe.

But even then we have the basic definition of a-theism to deal with, don’t we. Ugh. Seems there is genuine confusion out there.

Well that’s suiting, since presumably every religious person is also an atheist in regards to other religions beside their own, with the exception of course, for those that believe that everyhing that can exist, does.
