CNN) — A top U.S. evangelical leader is accusing Sen. Barack Obama of deliberately distorting the Bible and taking a “fruitcake interpretation” of the U.S. Constitution.James Dobson says Barack Obama is distorting bibical teachings to fit “his own confused theology.” In comments to be aired on his radio show Tuesday, Focus on the Family founder James Dobson criticizes the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee for comments he made in a June 2006 speech to the liberal Christian group Call to Renewal. In the speech, Obama suggested that it would be impractical to govern based solely on the word of the Bible, noting that some passages suggest slavery is permissible and eating shellfish is disgraceful.”Which passages of scripture should guide our public policy?” Obama asked in the speech. “Should we go with Leviticus, which suggests slavery is OK and that eating shellfish is an abomination? Or we could go with Deuteronomy, which suggests stoning your child if he strays from the faith? Or should we just stick to the Sermon on the Mount?”So before we get carried away, let’s read our Bible now,” Obama said, to cheers. “Folks haven’t been reading their Bible.” He also called Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount “a passage that is so radical that it’s doubtful that our Defense Department would survive its application.”In the comments to be aired Tuesday, Dobson said Obama should not be referencing antiquated dietary codes and passages from the Old Testament that are no longer relevant to the teachings of the New Testament.
YAY! The Christians are beating up on each other AGAIN about which passages they should cling to and which they should abandon AGAIN and now they’re fighting amongst themselves AGAIN because RELIGION CAUSES UNITY! Heil Jesus!OK Mr. Dobson, I guess we can just take that old passage that “is no longer relevant” and just black it out with a sharpie, right? OK, what else should we erase, and which is the perfect objective word of God?

Partisan?

Obeah:
Yeah, blatantly, subjectively partisan?consider the source.

I do realize that the source is left leaning but even Worldnet gets things right sometimes.
If even a quarter of that list of 100 mistakes is true, then Bush can only be described as incompetent.
Obeah:
If only a quarter of that list was objective and unbiased in how each complaint is phrased and measured, then that list could possibly be described as competent.
Thanks for the birthday greetings, guys. Yes, I did indeed have a happy one.
Well, that is a point. I have no wish to get into a protracted argument so I will concede; partisanship wins this one.
Iwas raised Pentelcost, I am starting to feel that God does not exisit. as I look back on my life as a child, teenager, and adult. How , if there really is a God ,how could he have allowed so many horrible things to happened to me? Where was my protection from harm.
I am starting to feel that God does not exist. If there is A god how could he allow some many horrible things happen to me as a child ,Where was his protection?

Believers will give you some BS about god not giving you more than you can handle, or he was there and you just didn’t see or understand his ways, blah, blah, blah. I’m very sorry horrible things happened to you. Horrible things happened to me too, and the most confusing thing was trying to reconcile them with a benevolent, protective, father-god. Shit happens. Whatever happened, you got to this point without gods. You relied on other people, or your own inner strength. Congratulate yourself. You’re a strong person. You may not always feel it, but you are. Now you are beginning to see through the sham that is religion. As you throw off its burden, you will become even stronger. Welcome to the world of rationality, and to this blog.
First, Karen, Happy Birthday!
Second, JCC, I will get back to you at some point. I’ve got a huge amount on my plate at the moment and commenting on the blog is a luxury that I can’t always afford.
Third, felicia, I’m glad that Karen commented. I was going to suggest that you hear from her as she has had some experiences that might be similar. I am a christian, but have veered directly left in my beliefs. I have found that I travel on a road of trying to figure out what it is to be human and have belief. I do not believe that god directly intervenes in day to day life and that belief in god is not something that is easy. Each person has their own journey in life and some are more difficult than others. I will not give you any platitudes, but will suggest that the search for answers can be a reward in itself. I think that you will find a number of people posting here, each with their own histories and agendas… atheist and theist. Most people here are helpful, but remember that the internet is an anonymous place, so be sure to take advice from each person, myself included, from where it comes from… anonymous posters. I will say that Karen is certainly a quality person who is filled with much love and has traveled a road that may be similar to yours.
I find that reading, contemplating and trying to help where I can along the way helps me on my journey. I have no answers to give you, but a helping hand if you think I can.
Karen, I loved your letter to Felicia 5337.
Felicia 5337, there is no wisdom in the bible, just a few pleasent quips mixed in with ignorance, hatred, and greed. Christianity will 9 out of 10 times be delivered by a man telling you to desire the love of a fictional male friend called Jesus. Jesus was a fictional character and Christianity is an empty ideology. Christian hucksters will give you guilt, fear and sorrow just so they can sell you salvation. They are empty fakes. Just take responsibility for your actions and you’ll find out who you are. Self actualization is the goal.If surrounded by shallow people seek out other people. Sometimes the hardest path will take you where you really want to be. We only get one trip thru, move forward and make the most of today. You can’t change the past so push it into a deep corner somewhere. You are OK.
JCC, if you’re still checking this post, I put a response on the “Oh Yeah” thread.
