And the Understatement of the Year goes to…

WASHINGTON (AP) ? Rep. Vito Fossella of New York acknowledged on Thursday that he fathered a child from an extramarital affair, answering questions that arose from his arrest on drunken driving charges last week.”My personal failings and imperfections have caused enormous pain to the people I love and I am truly sorry,” said Fossella, a Republican, who has three children with his wife in Staten Island, N.Y.Fossella’s private life came under scrutiny after he was arrested last week in the Virginia suburbs of Washington. Police said his blood-alcohol level was twice the legal limit, and he could face a mandatory five days in jail if convicted. When Fossella was pulled over, police said he told officers that he was going to see his daughter in the area. That prompted questions about who the daughter was.”I have had a relationship with Laura Fay, with whom I have a 3-year-old daughter,” Fossella said in his statement. It was Fay who got him out of jail after the arrest. The disclosure clouds Fossella’s political future. He faced a surprisingly tough re-election challenge in 2006, and Democrats were hoping to unseat him this year.

We get the elected officials that we deserve. And lest we forget, whenever there is a reaction to typecast this behavior as strictly one party or another….then the other party bares their tush over similar allegations. It is the poor character of the man, not the political party that is responsible.

But, why are these types of events more common in the Rethuglican Party?
And, why are there far more immoral and unethical happenings going on in said party?
I think these continuing problems say a lot about the character of one particular party.

    Boise Jim,

The christians seated the current repugs. based on their christian values. That is why they are more likely to engage in christian values as Fossella has done.

More closeted rethuglican behavior? Tell me it aint so.

They aren’t BJ. You just frequent “Left” leaning blogs…

Try reading up on the governors of NY and NJ…

This post is just one more example of Dave’s left leanings…

    Politically neutral…yeah. Sure it is…

No, I watch the news from all angles- I’m a staunch independent with no ties to any one party.

If you can honestly say that the Rethugs are no worse than any other party when it comes to immorality and unethical behaviour, I’m afraid your head is farther in the sand than I thought.

The current Retug party is destroying this once great country, and it really pisses me off.
What pisses me off more is how stupid the majority of Americans really are. We live in a country where far more people vote on American Idol than they do for their own President. With all the damage that’s been done by this current administration, it’s shocking there isn’t more outcry.
BushCo should be serving time in prison, not in a posh office.

    Disgraceful.

Bullshit. Prove this wild ass unfounded allegation or shut your vacuous pie hole…

Try reading up on the governors of NY and NJ…

Try reading up the still sitting congressman who likes to wear diapers when getting sexed by his prostitutes.

Try reading up on all the hookers and blow that Tom Delay bought for his backers.

Try reading up on the aide to Mitt Romney who was convicted of sexually exploiting a child.

Try reading about the Republican’t guy in the Big Brothers / Big Sisters organization who was exploiting the children in the program.

Try reading about the christian conservative activist who was arrested for having sex with a fourteen year old boy.

Try reading about the male prostitute who has over 200 ‘sleepovers’ (that we know of) in the White House during this adminsitration’s reign.

and that’s just the tip of the iceberg, as far as Republican’ts are concerned:

Funny how the resident Putsch fellator didn’t notice all of that, but instead accused others here of engagin in partisan witch hunts…

This post is just one more example of Dave’s left leanings…

Your comment is just one more example of your ostrich-like focus on current events whenever there’s a Republican’t involved.

    Politically neutral…yeah. Sure it is…

Just like you, phreak-boy. Funny how it’s okay for you to engage in partisan hackery (of a religious nature) (on a weblog devoted to atheism) while you can simultaneously get your knickers in a twist about somebody else.

    Suck it, jeebus phreak!

When the GOP’s supporters allow their party to bill itself as the party of gawd and the party of family values it invites such relentless examination and criticism of its party leaders. Reciprocity – It’s everywhere.

sorry took so long to reply about building a public health service at the state level. what i’m talking about is a health care system like canada or britain.we hear so much in the media about failure of federal gov’t to have a national system.the fact is citizens if they want it, can work to have their state create such a system.the question i have is wouldn’t we be better off to let free market forces drive down the price of service thereby meaning we need less gov’t involvement in healthcare not more.i don’t have a particular preference just want a solution that gets the best value for money spent.

  11. avatar what says:

    Reason

Ah OK because the Public Health Service is something entirely different.

Canada’s and the UK’s systems are very different. One (Canada’s) is socialized insurance whereas the other (UK’s) is socialized medicine. I think the former is superior to the latter.

  12. avatar reason says:

this is not likely to be a good year for republicans.a purge is needed the party must enforce a zero tolerance policy.

  13. avatar what says:

    Reason

I zero tolerance policy to what?

  14. avatar Boise Jim says:

    What

    Corruption, cronyism, immorality, etc…

  15. avatar what says:

    Boise

But not bad foreign and domestic policy? No zero tolerance to torture? No zero tolerance to spying on Americans? I suppose the “etc…” covers it. That’s one big etc…

  16. avatar what says:

So basically the GOP would need to have a zero tolerance policy to their policy. Sounds about right.

  17. avatar Boise Jim says:

Guess I should have capitalized ‘etc’, huh?

  18. avatar what says:

    Or exponentiate it.

Do you think that’s big enough?

If this actually happened, there would be no more Republican’ts. If the Democrats had the same policy, there might be a couple of them left. Maybe.

Somehow I think that the Republican’t ‘solution’ would involve suppressing Republican’t misbehavior, and emphasizing Democratic missteps. You can view the Republican’ts attempt to make this reality – just tune into Faux Snooze pretty much any time pretty much every day. INHO, the Conservative News Network, MSGOP, CBS, NBS, and ABC are slightly behind on this curve, and PBS yet farther behind. But they’re all moving that way, now that we’ve had seven years of a Republican’t controlled government installing Republican’t hacks into key gubmint positions.

I agree with your assessment of the media but you forgot to include NPR. They have fallen down on the job almost as much as the rest.

We need better news orgs and we will have them. The internet is a beautiful thing and its potential as a reputable and critical news source will be developing quickly.
