Well obviously i feel, just as all of you, that religion is irrational and ridiculous. Unfortunately, we do not have a cantidate that supports rationality when it comes to these issues. what i feel we need to do IS to choose the lesser of two evils. Voting for a 3rd party cantidate that we KNOW will not win is a disservice to like minded voters. Come on guys, we know how this works. When i was 18 i wasnt a huge fan of Kerry, but i did what i needed to try and vote out good ol' Bush (shit didnt work)! So dont waste ur vote. These fuckin christians know how to band together. AND besides, in all honesty, i obviously would prefer a leader of rational thinking, but im fine with a leader that has "personal" beliefs. Dawkins said in a recent interview that he doubts the two Dem front runners (especially Obama) really believe in god with the exception of the Einsteinian "god".

GodFree:

i guess i am a cynic when it comes to her because i think she will do whatever is best for her own personal agenda. and appearing to be religious is good for her agenda. i just don't see the xtian "goodness" in her. she wages "war" with whomever and whatever in the name of jesus in order to help herself. it's always about hillary. i just don't trust her true intentions.
OK, here's my take on this.

Sure, I was disgusted to see the candidates all pandering to the fantasy believers.

It is irritating that (almost) everyone has to pretend to respect religious belief to get elected.

It's pretty obvious to the informed that religion is a tool of kings and politics. They grease each other's hands to maintain power.

Appease the sheep by pretending to care about their stupid religion and they will vote for you. In return the religious leaders get a piece of the power pie. The upside is that the sheep are kept docile thinking they have an afterlife that will be wonderful.

Most savvy politicians know the rules. They wink and nod at religion and we atheists know it is all an act. Anyone with half a brain can see the political role of religion.

Think of it this way. I'd rather have a president who lies about his religious concern to get elected than one who actually believes. Dishonesty is part-time but being stupid is 24/7!

Pick the one who knows how to beat the believers at their own game. Don't give the election to a real believer by being mad at the dishonesty. We've already had 8 years of "God's" help and faith based politics.

There are too many believers who vote. I can see why the Dems appease them. It's the only way to possibly win.

Sure, we'd love to have some honest guy dismiss religion completely, but do the math. He won't get elected where a heavily religiously superstitious populous has the vote (USA).
I for one thought that if you really listened to what Obama is saying he is much more on our side. I like what Cynic posted you can't expect him to endorse atheists or secularism in a room of evangelicals...but take this into account, he is pro choice, pro sex education-not abstinence education, he does not take the bible literally, he "believes" god created the universe but then from there he let the evangelicals decide what that meant though he did say that a literal interpretation may not be best, he also on several occasions suggests that religion be kept out of public forums....So I have to disagree with you on this one, Sen. Obama is getting my vote.

Oh, and to add...I don't think that he "believes" in a personal god, listening to other speeches, he plays the religious role because he must to be recognized as any sort of mainstream politician and to even have a chance at the presidency, but many of his words, when not speaking to evangelicals reeks of a more Einsteinian religion.

What
I enjoyed the music.
Thanx! Yeah, I'm pretty sure we have a new name picked out. Just need to come up with a plan for promoting our new identity and then pull the trigger.
I agree with your assessment of Obama's religious perspective. When I heard the "bitter" remark I thought "He's got my vote alright!".

Judge: Teen Can Attend Catholic School Over Atheist Dad's Objection

LOUISVILLE, Ky. ? A judge has ruled that a teen can attend a Louisville Catholic high school, despite objections by his atheist father.

Oldham County family court Judge Tim Feeley said in a ruling published Monday that 14-year-old Michael Ryan can attend St. Xavier High School because that's where he wants to go.

His divorced parents disagreed over whether their son should go to the religious school, which his mother Susan Bisig wanted.
Seeker

Poor kid. Poor dad. Parents should never be pitted against one another, divorced or not, where children are concerned. The child will be the one to suffer the most from further loss of family functionality and the dad will pay for his mothers vindictiveness. The father will win on appeal and the judge will be exposed as a quack.

My older brother went to a catholic high school. It was and still is a place where kids with behavior problems go when they get kicked out of public high school. While at this new catholic school my brother, surrounded by far more troubled kids, learned how to be more antisocial. It wasn't until he was removed from that environment and sent to a different public high school that my brother was able to return to his loving self.
