The archdiocese of Washington objected to Metro (the Washington subway system) using a Bobblehead of the pope to advertise that everyone should use the subway to get around during the great Atheist protest of the pope’s visit to D.C. (OK, I made the last part up.) (Link to ad in title)Guess what they objected to in the ad. The impropriety of a plastic pope? Nope. The blasphemy of depicting the pope as a plastic Bobblehead? Nope. The pope Bobblehead wore a red cape and skull cap? Yep.The Roman Catholic Corporation didn’t get a cut of the action? Yep.”Our concern is that this was a bad bobblehead,” said Susan Gibbs, a spokeswoman for the Archdiocese of Washington. “You had unauthorized merchandise, and you had a misdressed pope.”[Emphasis added.]Be sure to get your special nine dollar commemorative metro papal pass when you go to the White House to protest the Roman Catholic Corporation next week on April 16th.Peter Nuhn
What kind of insane maniac gets upset at a bobble head of himself?
I want one !!!! LOL
Its a BabbleHead Droll
you had a misdressed pope.
Based on what I’ve seen them wearing, I don’t believe this is possible.
I think they object to the pope looking too normal and friendly, instead of his fiendish Palpatine image. That, and the idea that il papa would never, but never take the subway. pffft you peasants!
Pope bobbleheads on good ol’ eBay…

I think that’s one of the funniest ads I’ve seen in a while.
But the archdiocese IS showing it’s true colors, aren’t they. Officially sanctioned merchandise? Peter hit it right on the nose. The RCCorp wants its cut of their officially sanctioned member$hip fee$.
BTW, there is no BAD bobble-head. I have an entire collection of sports bobble-heads.
Off topic – I visited with my very catholic Mom over the weekend. I wanted to say something when she got ready for church Sunday morning and pulled out her personalized donation envelope, but we had our first real conversation about my beliefs without her crying so I didn’t rock the boat.
Phreedm,
Geographical locations mentioned are Assyria and Ethiopia; both post-Noahdic regions.
