God help us all.

Oh wait, there is no god.

I looked her up. she has a B.S, a
Masters degree and has worked toward a doctorate. Bet those degrees came from Jesus Christ University.

She also attends Rev. Wright's Church.
This has been on many other blogs already, and indeed many atheists and theist alike are giving her a piece of their minds via phone and email.

Dave...how about posting a link to the testimony. Simply posting a response without understanding what was said before invites misunderstanding...

Let me say I support anyone's right to believe in whatever they want, and to be allowed to express those views. Whether in a public hearing or a public school...

Frightening! Here is a member of Congress who obviously has no idea what the Bill of Rights provides, re. separation of church and state. The Establishment Clause and the Free Exercise Clause of Article I of the First Amendment help guarantee freedom of religion, but Article I also guarantees freedom of speech, which Rob Sherman was exercising when he was so rudely interrupted. Furthermore, Thomas Jefferson once remarked: ?The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts only as are injurious to others. But it does me no injury to my neighbor to say there are twenty gods or no god. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg.? It's Ms. Davis who should "get out" of her seat in Congress.

Here's a link to the audio...

http://blogs.chicagotribune.com/news_columnists_ezorn/files/DAVIS.mp3

I personally believe she was out of bounds. But I've heard her basic argument many times on this board focused against believers...

How many times have I heard someone state Falwell or Robertson or Dobson were dangerous to our children...?

To bad we don't have the transcript of what the hearing was all about. I'm guessing Sherman was raising a fuss about spending tax dollars to restore a 100 year old church...

But hey...at least Dave slammed a Dem...

I have to strongly agree that its much more of a slap in the face when u face bigotry from those who have faced it themselves. I am gay and in North Florida. Being called a faggot stings, but much worse when its from someone of another minority. Before this lady speaks of maintaining the values of our foundation she should remember that many of the founding fathers owned slaves themselves. Its a tired argument, but obviously it has to make a few more laps.

It doesn't matter if we all acted like Gandhi, we would still be dangerous in the eyes of the religious zealots.

I am also compelled to argue that from her point of view, she is correct. Our views are dangerous to her and hers and will result in the destruction of her of life.

Education and knowledge does result in destroying the ability of the theocratic to obtain power.

Stopping the introduction of religious superstition into our children's daily lives will destroy the religious' ability to raise another generation of followers instead of free thinkers.

Rob Sherman standing up to the Illinois legislature and governor in face of their attempt to fund the rebuilding of a Baptist church with $1 million is the job all of us should be undertaking.

The number of Catholics and Baptists succeeding in putting their hands into my back pocket and taking my funds from me just keeps growing and growing.

No wonder attendance at the weekly stock holder (congregates) meetings at these religious corporations keeps declining. They no longer need to go and fork over their own money since the religious corporations are securing more than enough funding directly from the government through political paybacks schemes and corruption.

In reference to my comment earlier today, I see Ms. Davis is not a U.S. Representative, but, rather, serves as an IL state Representative. No matter. My remarks still stand. She is a dunderhead and should resign her office.
