King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia called for a dialogue among monotheistic religions Monday, marking a first for the ultra-conservative Muslim kingdom. “I ask representatives of all the monotheistic religions to meet with their brothers in faith,” Abdullah told delegates to a seminar on “Dialogue Among Civilizations between Japan and the Islamic World,” according to the official Saudi Press Agency (SPA).?If God wills it, we will then meet with our brothers from other religions, including those of the Torah and the Gospel… to come up with ways to safeguard humanity,” he added.Abdullah said the country?s top clerics have given him approval to pursue his idea and that he plans to get the opinion of Muslim leaders from other countries.According to SPA, the Saudi king also intends to address the United Nations on the subject.”We have lost sincerity, morals, fidelity and attachment to our religions and to humanity,” Abdullah said Monday, deploring “the disintegration of the family and the rise of atheism in the world ? a frightening phenomenon that all religions must confront and vanquish.”Abdullah’s message of tolerance comes at a time of religious tensions caused by the re-igniting of a two-year-old controversy over Danish cartoons deemed by Muslims to be insulting.Danish newspapers reprinted the controversial cartoon of the Muslim prophet Mohammed last month in defiance of Islamic extremism and to defend freedom of expression.
There are so many things I can write down here, I really don’t know where to start.Atheists didn’t make your cartoon, Your Highness, and we didn’t kill innocent people when they were published. We’re standing on the side, watch as Islamic hordes killed innocent people because of a drawing. A DRAWING!This reminds me of Hitler. All united against the terrible religious minority, whose only crime is speaking, or even just being. I hope the Jews don’t fall for this. And How exactly can a quote about “vanquishing” a group of people due to their philosophy sound like a “message of tolerance”?Folks, for those who haven’t written a letter to the editor recently, now’s the time. Go sick. Post the letters here. MINE IS POSTED IN THE COMMENTS. And if this P.O.S comes to the UN, we will make our presence known.American Atheists urges all people of all religions to voice their concern over this grave and scary message. These are terrorists and terrorist supporters, and they want you on their side.

Dave, great letter and let Phreedm wait. He thinks he’s entitled to an answer from you. Don’t give him the satisfaction. Honestly, he hasn’t earned it.
Japan, not xian. Mexico, very xian.

Did I SAY Bush and Haliburton were directly responsible for 9/11?
The Christian Empire of America’s actions around the world may have been. Try to deny that.
Dense. Christians are dense…

tom, you really are wasting your symbolic breath. Your energy and intellect is much better spent skipping over dumbass’ rantings and addressing intelligent posts
I agree with you completely – arguments with the religiously insane often turn out like this.
But I’m doing this for several reasons:
1. Infotainment value in pointing out how much and how often supposedly christian individuals break the moral codes they claim to be promoting in today’s world. Some of the brain-dead cultists (not to mention any phreakshows by name or anything like that) make it really easy to do…
2. Personal enjoyment in seeing just how much of a pretzel the religiously insane can twist themselves into in order to justify their immoral abominations of the superstitions they claim to follow. The whole being a completely rude and uncivil areshole while doing it is just metaphorical icing on the cake.
3. It seems that some of these unethical immoral cultists think that they can intmidate those who do not share their delusional fantasies. They even think that they can pollute the comment thread of an atheistic web site without their fantasies being challenged. They also seem to think that it is more offensive for rational No Gawd Blog readers to challenge their delusions than it is for them to spew them here.
I seek to enlighten the studio audience (it appears that the deluded cultists will be brain-dead forever) of their agenda, and that it is possible to enjoy some nasty tauntings on the subject while infotaining the studio audience and advancing counter-memes to combat their institutionalized insanity.
4. Unlike certain lying sacks of phreakish religious insanity, I have actually had real feedback from real people on this web site that has expressed appreciation for my efforts. The fact that these clowns have not yet managed to even land a glove on me, argument-wise, and that they generally duck and cover whenever I bring up any of their myriad exercises in superstitious delusion. Maybe others will find inspiration in my efforts.
Speaking of unethical, immoral, factually challenged, arrogant religiously insane Republican;t Putsch fellators:

Dave…I’m still waiting for you to offer us a link to a press release were AA sued a Jew or Arab…?
And I’m still going to point out that, as usual, a phreakishly ignorant religiously insane Republican’t Putsch fellator thinks he has the right to demand answers from others when he cannot even be civil enough to answer others.
We’re still waiting for you to back up any of religiously insane propaganda, phreakshow. Any time you’re ready. Or are you too much of a bedwetting chickenhawk to actually do what you demand of others?
The rest of the non-points that jeebus phreaking keerist tries to use to throw the comments off topic aren’t even worthy of bringing up. Personally, I think it’s just the crack talking most of the time.
Suck it, jeebus phreak!

Let me try that again.

It would be nice if AA maintained a web page with the list of current legal activities it’s involved in. Not for Phreedom’s benefit, but for those of us who are members of AA.
I would ask that Pig King Abullah of that fine stone-throwing dictatorship why he doesn’t have any tolerance or respect for half the human population, i.e. women.
I sometimes get criticized for criticizing jewish believers, but I am an equal opportunity skeptic.
Any muslim man who goes to a mosque and sticks his ass up in the air to get sodomized by Allah or Mohammad is not to be trusted, especially by women.
Many men of muslim background are fine people. But not those who go to a mosque, who are simply misogynist pigs. I don’t care if I offend some male muslim believer. They offend intelligence.
You can find a lot of pictures of Bush with Pig King Abdullah.

I actually think this is good news. The less power someone has, the more radical they often become. I feel that if we’re being attacked with permission from the clerics, the clerics power is waning and they need new targets. The devoutly religious may be under heavier critisism because the population of Saudi Arabia could be becoming more secular. Remember the rape victim a few weeks back: supposedly the majority supported not punishing her. I think the call is nothing more than a desperate attempt to hold on to power, but I may be overly optimistic.
I think that the clerics are looking for new targets as a way to retain power. Maybe Saudi Arabia is starting to demand more freedoms that the clerics are afraid of and they need something else to rally people around. I suppose I could be overly optimistic, however, but I think that this may be a sign like how increasingly secular America is getting increasingly fundie prayer warriors. Just think of the Phelps: More acceptance of homosexuality = more nutty pastors.
Augustine,
I think you might be right. At least, I hope so.
Oh wait, atheists have no hope. Silly me.

You’re such a putz…
Nice try…Japan’s standard of living improved AFTER the influence of the USA…

You’re such a putz…
…says the religiously insane theofasc!st who insists on behaving like a putz around here.
I guess it takes one to know one…
Haven’t you learned by now that your phreakishly ignorant pagan occult ravings have no meaning around here? It is amazing how you continue to lie your a$$ off around here and expect others to believe any of your vile screechings.
Have you ever backed up any of the fairy tales you spin around here? Or do you seriously expect others to believe your deliberate misrepresentations without question? I only ask rhetorically, because it appears you think you’re too good to act like the regular people and sully your beautiful mind with the petty concerns of the average mortal.
Suck it, jeebus phreak!
4-F Freedy’s so angry… he should try some introspection for a change… probably afraid of what he’d see… sad…

So, ok, we have to qualify the original statement to now say:
But one need only look around the globe to see what countries developed the highest standard of living with the majority of their citizens as being Christian and/or rebuilt by Christians…
OK, so that covers Japan. But what about Mexico? I’ve got it! Let’s rewrite it this way:
But one need only look around the globe to see what countries developed the highest standard of living with the majority of their citizens as being white Christians and/or rebuilt by white Christians…
There you go, I fixed it for ya. And if you can see the flaw in mine, you’ll know the flaw in yours.
phreedm:
after the influence of the USA, sure, ok… but obviously not the RELIGIOUS influence of the USA, or else they would be christian.
could it be that the majority religion of the US is not what made our influence on the japanese beneficial?
maybe we can look at other examples of “pagan” countries that were “civilized” by christian countries…
oh, I know… most of Central America! that fits the bill.
or, how about most of colonialized Africa?
I guess when we consider them, it starts to look like the introduction of christianity (or islam, yech) wasn’t exactly a shining high-point in the history of most of those countries.
of course, thats not to say that all non-christian countries have a higher standard of living. china and north korea are both pretty low on the totem pole.
why, you know, its almost like the religion of a country has practicaly NOTHING to do with its success! maybe we should focus on OTHER factors, like the availability of natural resources, or effective management of those resources, or the capacity of a country to produce its own food and clean water, or endemic diseases, or the presence of strong trading partners or rivals, etc etc etc.
you know, I’ll bet that the quality of a countries science education has almost a 1-1 correspondance to its standard of living. I’m not saying its a causual relationship either way, but there is a strong correlation there. I wonder what conclusions we could draw from that little nugget…
Comment from: Angel_Of_Light
OK, so that covers Japan. But what about Mexico? I’ve got it! Let’s rewrite it this way:
Mexico was conquered by christians, who then murdered their men and raped their women.
So I guess some might think that christianity was good for mexicans. The mexicans that the christians allowed to live, that is.
Must be more of that noble, valorous, civilization-enhancing behavior that has endeared christianity to so many in the world today…
That’s an amazing talent Phreeky has. He can engage his motor cortex to type independent of his frontal lobes input. A truly astonishing feat.
Ding ding ding! FlyingWeasel gets the prize! You win one billion supernatural dollars. Check’s in the prayers.
So where was Dave at the end of December 2007, when the UN voted to “Combat Defamation of Religions”???
see:

ws.asp?m=A/C.3/62/L.35
However this aims to specifically safeguard Islam.
Of course, Dave doesn’t want his fellow Jews to fall for this, but they can continue believing in the myth that they are an elite chosen race who has a diving right to the middle-east and can kill and oppress anyone who gets in the way of their pure jewish state. They can keep on killing those arab goyim and surrounding them with prison walls, right Dave, as long as they don’t work with the goyim for any other religious crimes. Of course when the jews kill innocent men, women and children as a means to accomplish political measures, its not terrorism and all those American zionists who support the ethnic cleansing of Palestine aren’t “terrorist supporters” right Dave? Only those brown Arab muslims are terrorists, right Dave? Never the poor white Joooooooooooos.
