As loathsome as they are, the Phelps crowd has a constitutional right to peaceably assemble and express their views. They can’t be singled out for special treatment just because their message is unpopular. Atheists, who are probably almost as unpopular among the general public as the Phelps clan, should be particularly sensitive to that fact.
