FRC Prayer Against Spitzer

“May God intervene to stop Governor Spitzer from succeeding in this evil ambition to make abortion a “fundamental right” in New York! May pro-life New Yorkers somehow prevail, even as they did when he pursued Crisis Pregnancy Centers in 2002! May New Yorkers arise and stir their neighbors to understand the consequences of pursuing this course, and may this bill be defeated!” Well, we have to concede: God 1/Spitzer 0But was it God? Here are some questions that are popping up: “Why did Mike Bloomberg suddenly start talking about running for governor recently? And why did he give $500,000 to Joe Bruno? He’s good buddies with Mike Mukasey. What did he know and how did he know it?”Another good question being asked is: “Amazing how Senator David Vitter?s name never leaked out of the Justice Department after the arrest of the D.C. Madam, but Eliot Spitzer?s name leaked out of the Justice Department within a week of the initial arrest in the Emperor V.I.P. case.”"The NYTs reported that Spitzer got caught by a wire tap on an investigation of a prostitution ring (the Emperors Club VIP), but ABC reported that the Feds were investigating potential bribery and fraud with funds going to a bogus corporation (QAT) that was a dummy for the Emperor Club VIP. Which story is correct? Why would the FBI be investigating a rich guys prostitution ring, that is a state crime, not a federal one? So how did Spitzer’s name get leaked to the media, and who did it? Didn’t happen to Dave Vitter.”It took Hustler to leak Vitter’s use of New Orleans prostitutes. Well at least the Democrat was using a thousand dollar an hour hooker and not a cop in a public rest room in some airport in middle America. At least the Democrats have taste, which the Republicant’s will never be accused of having.Peter Nuhn

He probably investigates VIPs as a matter of course. He’s a billionaire so he can afford it.

I began reading this blog a long time ago, because of the quality and content of David’s posts. I am quite liberal, and will be voting all Democrat again this election, but I have to say that lately Peter’s political rants are becoming more obnoxious and I believe are detrimental to the legitimacy of the NoGodBlog.

Politics can be seen as its own form of religion. How can we Atheists claim to present an objective view on issues such as Spitzer’s ethics when posts like this are allowed on atheists.org?

“At least the Democrats have taste, which the Republicant’s will never be accused of having.”

What the hell does that have to do with Atheism?

Please, let’s keep it on topic. Dave?

I agree with Pycoder. Dave and Peter should stay away from posts that are purely political and without direct relevance to atheism or AA. They shouldn’t not taint themselves with such partisanship. Leave that to us, thank you.

I appreciate your position Pycoder and What. Tell you what, when the religious organizations give up their political stances, then I’ll quit talking about their efforts to influence politics. Deal?

  7. pycoder says:

Peter, you are missing my point. I agree with most of the things you say, however your messages lately have become “preachy”. David also posts on political topics from time to time but I’ve never felt that he was being pushy.

In this country politics and religion are becoming more and more intertwined, unfortunately. Issues surrounding separation of church and state should definitely be explored here, but I feel that your posts set the wrong tone for discussion.

Maybe it is time for a separate blog dedicated to atheists interested in politics?

  8. cry4turtles says:

I can’t imagine an athiest not interested in politics, but I guess there are some.

  9. what says:

Nobody, including Pycoder, has advocated for not talking about politics here – far from it. What I am saying is that Peter and Dave should focus on politics related to Atheism only. The rest of us here are willing to pull any and every topic down into the political mud. Dave and Peter’s help is not needed in that respect and it is better for them to stay above the purely political fray as representatives of AA.

  10. alatham says:

I’ll propose a compromise since I agree with Pycoder and What.

Dave and Peter can focus entirely on atheistic matters when making an initial topic, but once they get into the Comments section, feel free to expound your political leanings however you choose.

In other words, act as representatives of AA when making the topic, but act as individuals when making comments.

What the hell does that have to do with Atheism?

Allow me a little latitude in answering this question. I understand it was directed at one sentence within the original post. However, Peter’s post has everything to do with atheism.

One of the common themes that run through posts on AA have to do with morals and ethics. Basically doing what’s right. Even when the majority are moving in the opposite direction.
I have yet to hear an atheist admit that they are unable to consistently take the high road in their behavior…

Atheists do not believe in the concept of “Fallen Man”, however to their credit some have recently admitted that an atheists ability to live a purely moral and ethical life is “another” myth..

    Comment from: FlyingWeasel

I would venture to guess that humanity will never develop a truly comprehesive system of ethics.

I bring this all up because of Peter’s post. He know’s what Spitzer did was not only illegal but hypocritical. If he were really a moral ethical human, he’d treat Spitzer the exact same way this blog treated Senator Craig and Representative Foley.

Peter took the low road and instead of pointing out Spitzer’s failings, he decided to copy Carvel’s recent rant about some right wing conspiracy, and ended with blaming the entire incident on the republicans…

Peter ended up validating FlyingWeasel’s comments…

Now I’m sure Peter’s a nice guy in real life, and I’m not claiming his behavior is similar to that of Spitzer’s…I know the weak minded will attempt to somehow come to that conclusion…

Point is…mankind can never be a purely moral and ethical creature on his own…period.

Phreekies brain is one hell of a funky filter. Information goes in (OK I am giving him the benefit of the doubt) but when the filter/brain tries to retrieve that information later it bares no resemblance to the input. He misrepresents the posts of others like a bad conman who can’t remember whether you were already one of his “marks” or not.
