I live in St. Louis, MO. I'm pretty sure we're the teen STD capitol of the country. I'll have to double check my facts. I'm an 8th grade teacher and I can definitely support Cecile Richards quote. The abstinence-only program is NOT working!

Peter
BTMFs? Is the first part Bible Thumping? Because I think I got the second part.

No, abstinence doesn't work. It didn't even work for Mary, fer chrissakes. And kids today have the crazy idea that oral sex isn't sex, but no one told the STDs that.
I've got no problem with promoting abstinance, none whatsoever.

hell, I'm glad I abstained as long as I did.

but if you're gonna promote only abstinance you might as well keep trying to tell the kids they came from a cabbage patch.

Buybull Thumping Mofos! I like it a lot...

No....Bill Clinton told the kids it wasn't sex.

And the Clenis Corollary to Godwin's Law is reached in only four comments!

But, but - phreakshow, Saint Ronnie Ray-Gun was raping girls forty years before the last legally elected president of the US was serving, and Ray-Gun was also getting blow jobs from his adulterous girlfriend twenty years before he was installed into the White House! Funny how your (Now) Sixteen Year Hate blinds you to the immoralities of your fellow religiously insane hypocrites...

Too bad Ronnie couldn't remember anything about it by the time the Republican't media got around to looking into that...

Peter...you're such a putz...

You know there's an unwritten rule in life. If someone attempts to build themselves up by tearing another down...beware.

Yeah, yeah, Planned Parenthood is another partner with AA, so I'm sure this announcement is in concert with one of the many emails they send AA headquarters...

So, we have a report that states 1 out of every 4 young women have an STD. And suddenly Planned Parenthood has a press release stating "the national policy of promoting abstinence-only programs is a $1.5 billion failure"...

And no one says....huh?

Of course they're going to be the first one's out of the blocks pointing fingers. I mean after all...that 1.5 billion should have gone to them.

How much did Planned Parenthood make from tax dollars?

For 2005-2006, Planned Parenthood reported the following income amounts:

Planned Parenthood / 2005-2006
Clinic income $345.1 million
Taxpayer dollars 305.3 million
Donations 212.2 million
Other 40.2 million

Total income 902.8 million
Total expenses 847.0 million

Profit $55.8 million

This compares to the following numbers reported for 2004-2005:

Planned Parenthood / 2004-2005
Clinic income $346.8 million
Taxpayer dollars 272.7 million
Donations 215.8 million
Other 46.7 million

Total income 882.0 million
Total expenses 819.0 million

Profit $63.0 million

Total income went up 2.4 percent, passing $900 million for the first time.

The organization continued to make a hefty profit of $55 million, bringing its total profits since 1987 to $656.8 million.

http://www.plannedparenthood.org/index.htm

Of course you didn't mention the fact that...

A study by CDC?s Sherry L. Farr and colleagues found that while the majority of sexually active 15- to-24 year-old young women (82 percent) receive contraceptive or STD/HIV services

So even with 82% using either contraceptives or receiving STD/HIV services, 1 our of 4 young women STILL came down with STD's.

And you call abstinence-only programs a failure...

Phreedm, I am a junior in high school and can easily claim that sex as a no-no is a complete failure. We have seventh graders pregnant, and the preachers remain quiet on any real program for prevention. My kindergarden class had about 150. It is now down to 90. Claiming that planned parenthood is 100% effective is wrong; yet it is still better than any other rates, such as wait until 21. Most pregnant teenagers or the fathers will never graduate, much less attend college. I doubt that you have a clear idea of exactly how incredibly stupid abstinence is: you can't simply tell people its bad, you have to accept that it will happen and take steps to prevent it from screwing up peoples lives. I challenge you to name one person who waited until marriage, and you can't use jesus because he would have been sleeping with Mary Magdeline, as she is said to have shown her hair to jesus, which would have been against the law of israel in biblical times (the equivalent nowdays would have been for her to give him a lapdance). So please, give examples that no big-boy feelings until 21 makes sense.
