Vatican decides on “New Bad Things”

A Vatican official has listed drugs, pollution and genetic manipulations as well as social and economic injustices as new areas of sinful behavior…. When asked to list the new areas of sinful behavior, Girotti denounced “certain violations of the fundamental rights of human nature through experiments, genetic manipulations.”He also mentioned drugs, which weaken the mind and obscure intelligence; pollution; as well as the widening social and economic differences between the rich and the poor that “cause an unbearable social injustice.”Girotti said the Catholic Church continued to be concerned by other sinful acts, including abortion and pedophilia. He said Church authorities had reacted with rigorous measures to child abuse scandals within the clergy, but he also claimed that the issue had been excessively emphasized by the media.

Soooo let’s run down the list. Pollution is now bad. Genetic manipulation and experimentation is bad (doesn’t say anything about non-human, doesn’t say anything about curing disease). Raping children is still bad, but has been blown out of proportion. Condoms are still bad. Hate against gays and non-Catholics is not mentioned as a sin of any kind. Abortion is still bad.So now “sins” have gone beyond sex and has evolved to include science that may save life. The Vatican is all about the Environment (and sex, and abortion, and condoms, and homosexuality, and infallibility of the pope who hid rapists, and the need for public funds). I can’t fault them for taking a stance here; it’s a good cause — and only a few decades too late.I just wish they’d stay out of the bedroom and the doctor’s office. I really feel as though the Vatican COULD be a source for GOOD, not intolerance, hate, and control. This is the single richest entity in the universe — they could stop world hunger with a simple decision. Perhaps the fact that 60% of the congregates don’t take them seriously enough to go to mass is an indicator for them that it’s time for the Church to evolve.

Poor godly phreedumb likes his provocations, “As I’ve stated many times,” followed by pure BS i.e. Bible Shit.

Bible shit is much worse than bull shit, because the latter actually serves a purpose, like fertilizing the land. The former is just deadly toxic waste that lasts an indefinite time in the environment.

I just saw a documentary on the Sack of Magdeburg by Catholics during the Thirty Years War in 1631. The fighting monk Count de Tilly massacred over 25,000 people. Is that on the list of deadly sins by Pope RatzAss?

    http://www.answers.com/topic/sack-of-magdeburg

Xianity has always been a cesspool of hate, murder, and destruction. It cannot change.

    phreedm,
You’ll have to excuse me, but I don’t see the reason you bring up sex abuse in school when we’re talking about the RCC.

Let me help you: Atheists discussing how xians molest children is relevant on an atheist blog. Atheists discussing how teachers molest children isn’t relevant on an atheist blog.

    Can you spot the difference?

  3. avatar (: tom :) says:

So in the end, Phreedm’s point that school abuse greatly outnumbers church abuse is still irrelevant and still unproven.

But, but… gawd told it specifically that school abuse is a much greater problem than religious people who get put in a position of power over children who they are supposed to be teaching right and wrong abusing children.

Didn’t you read your big book of christian fairy tales? It must be so if the Invisible Sky Fairy inserted itself into phreakshow’s melon and forced him to spew his occult nonsense here at a blog that deals with rational thought. I can’t believe you lack the intellectual capacity to blindly accept the unfounded ravings of a religiously insane arsehole trolling a prominent non-religious blog to bring it back to the Faith, alatham. What’s wrong with you? I think phreakshow will be preying, er, praying for you to come to the Light now…

    altham:

yeah, I realize that and I pointed out numerous differences in the data set myself. includeing the fact that school abuses reported included verbal harrasment.

however, if we recognise the differences in the data sets we should be able to compensate for them. the resulting figures would be nowhere near conclusive but would represent at least an educated guess.

it’s ok to hypothesize as long as we don’t pretend to knowledge that we don’t have (phreedm)

  5. avatar alatham says:

    Flying Weasel,

I didn’t notice the bit about verbal harassment, that makes an even bigger difference, thanks for pointing that out.

I want to agree that we can make some sort of educated guess, but I think in this case there are too many unknown variables that we simply can’t account for (for instance, how could we make up for the difference in time-frames? Or the difference between anonymous reports and public reports?).

    However,

it’s ok to hypothesize as long as we don’t pretend to knowledge that we don’t have

I will always agree with that statement. It’s the core of scientific thinking. We simply don’t have much knowledge about how teacher-student abuse compares to religious leader-flock abuse.

So the Poop has made new additions to his List-O-Sins reflecting the new technological landscape. Has the catholic church ever removed a sin from d’list because it was out-dated?

  7. avatar what says:

Polluting is in the new and improved Big Book-O-Sins. Does that cover Phreeky’s pollution of this blog? If so, that boy’s gonna burn.

  8. avatar bernarda says:

The Times has an article on it. Pope RatzAss is upset.

“?Those who trust in themselves and in their own merits are, as it were, blinded by their own ?I?, and their hearts harden in sin. Those who recognise themselves as weak and sinful entrust themselves to God, and from Him obtain grace and forgiveness.?

The Pope also complained that an increasing number of people in the secularised West were ?making do without God?.

He said that hedonism and consumerism had even invaded ?the bosom of the Church itself, deeply undermining the Christian faith from within, and undermining the lifestyle and daily behaviour of believers?.”

    http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/comment/faith/article3517050.ece

We are not supposed to trust in ourselves and our merits, but in some dumbass elderly virgin.

Here is what you get for the original “deadly” sins.

“The original offences and their punishments
    Pride Broken on the wheel
    Envy Put in freezing water
Gluttony Forced to eat rats, toads, and snakes
Lust Smothered in fire and brimstone
    Anger Dismembered alive
Greed Put in cauldrons of boiling oil
    SlothThrown in snake pits “

Apparently fewer and fewer people from catholic families accept these stupidities.

It seems their God couldn’t foresee what the future of “sins” would be, so the Catholic Church has to pick up the slack. You’d have thought that God would simply have put in the bible that genetic manipulation is a sin. This is just another example of the failure of their invented God.

Oh ye, of little faith! All it takes is time and a little creative numerology to find the hidden Truths(TM)in the teh Babble. Pollution, genetic manipulation, Elvis worship; it’s all in There. You just have to know how to look for it. There are also gems like the “Banana proves gawd’s existence” and “Peanut Butter disproves evolution”.

Yu can has revulashunz if yu do not deni teh holey spirut. ;-)

Amazing immorality. This is the catholic church condoning pedophilia. Excessive emphasis by the media? There’s no two ways about it. You can blame the media, you can blame the public schools, you can blame atheists, but when you come down to it, catholic priests raping children is wrong. Why would anyone in their right mind try and find an excuse for that?

I believe that you can now eat meat on Fridays in some of the christian cults.

And apparently Ratzi the Natzi doesn’t think it’s any sort of sin to move pedophile priests from flock to flock so the priests can have some fresh meat once in a while. Maybe even on Fridays too!

  13. avatar rna2dna says:

One of the points that is often not considered when discussing the crimes committed by christian authorized personnel is that they claim a base of perfection. The christians claim that their “leaders” are selected as a result of inspiration from a perfect sky creature.

The trolls that hang around here are very are removed from perfection. You christians wouldn’t know perfection if it stood up and bit your ass.

Kiss my ass Jesus Christ and your little God too.

    Karen,

Should I maybe wear my “Idiot-Proof Bible Decoder Glasses”…will that help me find those things?

  15. avatar (: tom :) says:

    Hey, Karen!

Could you email me (at tomg at funnyfarmonline dot org), and pass along Dave’ email to me? I’ve had it with the religiously insane trolls, too (not to mention any phreakshows by name or anything like that), and I, too, would like to email him and ask that certain rude uncivilized religiously insane trolls be banned from these pages.

  16. avatar karen says:

Decoder Glasses, definitely. And chew some acacia bark, or down a few rounds of vintage scotch at the very least.

The idea of pollution/not recycling being a sin led me to a new saying…
‘Going to Hell in a Wastebasket” as an updated version of “going to hell in a handbasket”.

I coupled that with notion of excessive wealth being a sin, and it all led me to this…

Normally, HZ, r4d, KA, and two others who have editing privileges would take care of the canada problem, but they don’t seem to be present at this time.
Maybe if we all email Dave and ask him to give canada1989 the boot, he will.

  21. avatar karen says:

OK, I emailed Dave, asking him to get rid of canada1989, but I said a bunch of us were in agreement on that, so some of you guys might want to back me up with your own emails.
