OK so we have a few new trolls here (and a couble of old ones), and SOME people just love feeding them. Please use THIS THREAD to debate god or religion. Open forum. Don’t want to debate, don’t go here.Have fun, be civil, and please, keep the debating here and try to stay on topic on the other threads.

2 cents: IMO its not so much about evidence that suggests that naturalism is the correct way of looking at the universe as it is that knowledge can only be considered usefull when its based on the naturalistic premise.
to put it another way, if knowledge does not have predictive content, then its not really knowledge. if your predictions about the way something will happen are borne out by the evidence, then its a “natural” phenomena. It helps to remember what “natural” means in this context. we all have our preconceptions about what is “natural” and what is “supernatural”, but if something we consider “supernatural” actually exists then it is actually natural, and we only call it “supernatural” because it does not fit into our current model of the natural world.
does that seem like fishy thinking to anyone? its late and its a hard concept to explain.
Hehehehe, I trolled that place so hard with my database of sayings!
FlyingWeasel
Not at all! Nicely done. It was terse, but not as terse as my post, and consistent throughout.
What do they eat?
I’ve never had any luck with trolls either.
Dave
Mythology is the religion of yesterday. Religion is the mythology of tomorrow.
What,
They eat the brains of the intelligent. Sort of like cancer.
F the trolls…..they and thier delusions deserve no respect….this is no god blog….lets stay on topic that there is no god…or at least that there is no proof of supernatural beings….and ID is certainly no proof….
timmy,
I’m not sure what you’re asking up above.
Are you asking if anyone has ever scientifically tested the Scientific Method?
That’s a good question, I don’t know how to answer it right now.
I just thought of something.
Every time someone uses the Scientific Method to gather useful predictive knowledge about the universe, the Scientific Method has also been tested.
Simply put, if the Scientific Method didn’t work then it wouldn’t result in an increase in useful knowledge.
I can’t think of any other method to use that would work equally well, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. Since the Scientific Method has been proven and no other methods have we really have no choice.
err, let me rephrase this:
Since the Scientific Method has proven useful, we should use it unless someone comes up with an alternative that is equally useful at coming up with predictive knowledge (without also needlessly complicating things).
emkay, I checked out the yes/no site and voted. Where the hell is “Oceania”? I want to move there.
“Oceania is at war with Eastasia. Oceania has always been at war with Eastasia.”
- George Orwell, 1984
Not really sure if you’d want to live there…
well the big bang does not say that there was a begening what it say is that at some point the universe will come back and have a big bang and back and big bang you see no start but everlasting.so the theory says but that is why its a theory not a law.
cry4turtles, Oceania is the name of the continent where Australia is.
I met a guy from New-Zealand while backpacking in Europe. THAT place sounds like the coolest place on earth. And if you`ve seen the lord of the rings movies, you know how magestic that country`s scenery is.
What,
Hammer/Nail/Head
I will have to add this to my list of things to say to piss off the RR, although I might be so inclined to change the word tomorrow, to today.
I see so many Wikipedia references on these blogs. Can we find a more reputable resource, please? I don’t allow my students to use it and I’m wary of it’s use here.
GodlessInSD,
Not to point out the obvious, but most legitimate Wikipedia entries also site sources, article, etc., from which the information contained in the entry was compiled.
I’ve just invented three new things(it’s news to me at least):
1) hit and run trolling – the act of copying and pasting from your database of sayings onto a blog -one thread- all of your best sayings that you’ve spent much time thinking about before, and then never blogging there again
2) parallel trolling – hit and run trolling on many different blogs with similar ideas (i.e. x-ian blogs)
3) religion theory – the act of storing a database of sayings and then convincing other people in your communitty to keep on saying them (trolling) exponentially until they overwhelm society (as in the bible, koran, torah, vedas, ghita, lamma, etc.)
quantum_flux,
I suggest you apply for a patent before someone steals your ideas.
Those tricky Satanists are at it again:

thats a bit of a misconception about the big bang theory,
the “big bang” is just what we call the earliest time in the universe that we can track back to by observing whats going on in the universe now, ie: red shift, background radiation, etc. All this evidence suggests that x billion years ago (can’t remember off the top of my head but you can look it up) the universe underwent an exponential expansion, at the same time matter and energy in this young universe was assuming the forms we’re used to seeing today, ie: tons of electrons and protons zipping around in the expanding universe combined into light elements, which combined into gaseous globes, which got so huge they started undergoing fusion in their cores, creating heavier and heavier elements.
however, the big bang theory doesn’t have anything at all to say about what, if anything, came before the “big bang” event because we don’t understand the universe well enough to project what would have been happening before 10^-35 (or something like that) seconds after the event started. if a unified theory of physics is ever developed, it may enable us to theorize about what happened before that currently opaque barrier.
There’s no money in it, I think I’ll just halfbake these ideas instead.
AOL,
You beat me to the punch. I was just about to post the same thing and ask Dave to post a topic about how fundies say the darndest thing, and then we could see who could come up with the craziest one. That was to be my submission. I guess I will have to keep searching in hopes Dave takes my suggestion and runs with it.
quantum_flux,
Not to be mean, but I think those ideas were already half baked. Nice try though.
It’s news to me.

This book again!? Grrrr! I’ll bet any of you trolls out there that the world doesn’t end in 2008!

I bet it didn’t end in 2007.
Someone said the world is 15
gigatrillion infinity years old.
True or false?
