after what happened to european jews to imagine that the jewish god exists is insanity.what kind of god would allow innocent children to be gassed, shot, clubbed to death.

Wish I could go, but can’t again this year. Maybe next year’s will be within driving distance? The airfare is what’s killing me. It’s hard to justify a $600-$800 weekend on the kind of budget I have.

  3. rna2dna says:

    Karen, I can’t go either :(

    Damn christians!

  4. nissimlevy says:

I’m sorry you can’t go, but what do the xians have to do with it, hon?

“Is there evidence or reason to support the claim that the deity worshipped by the Jews and described in the Hebrew scriptures exists?”

What? Are there people who still believe this?

  7. phreedm says:

    Here we go again…Another Party..!!!

And you wonder how your hard earned dues are spent…sheesh

Now…exactly what did AA accomplish last year?

reason…exactly what atrocities are you ignoring today?

  9. Tim Ren says:

    phreedm,

…exactly what atrocities are you ignoring today?

You are absolutly right!Look at all the atrocities your god is allowing today.

Never mind the carnage in Darfur. What god would allow 19 men to fly 4 airplanes into 3 buildings, killing over 3,000 people… in HIS NAME?

Why would that same god allow the United States, his chosen people, to invade and occupy a country that not only had nothing to do with the attack, but did not even threaten to attack, nor have the capability to attack, killing hundreds of thousands of civilians?

Such a just and loving god you worship there, phreddy. Speaking of which; why would an all powerful being demand to be worshiped by a bunch of pee-ons, in the first place? Secondly, why would you choose to worship something that claims to be benevolent, while allowing atrocities to be committed in his name, since time immemorial?

exactly what atrocities are you ignoring today?

It would be nice if you mentioned that you have been ignoring the treasonous behavior of pResident Screen Door on a Submarine, the violent and illegal behavior of your fellow christians, the hate speech and calls for violence by christian leaders, and the lies and hypocrisy that you, personally, and some of those who engage in the same occult superstitions that you do, engage in on an almost daily basis in the comments section of this blog. Especially when you are so quick to ask others about their activities.

How about it, phreakshow? What ‘atrocities’ are you ignoring today?

And, to the point of the post at hand – I’m in agreement with Rusty. To listen to a vicious bigot like Prager, you’d have to pay me money – and let me be able to question his lies after he spews them. But there’s no way that I would pay for that sort of ‘privilege’…

    Phreedm,

Please explain how you came to the conclusion that Reason was ignoring more recent atrocities.

It smells like a non sequitur in here.

Given the context of his post, I just assumed phreedy had elevated reason to the status of god. He(phreedm)does tend to agree with reason a lot.

  15. rna2dna says:

    karen,

I’m sorry you can’t go, but what do the xians have to do with it, hon?

I used the full Force and Truth of christian logic to figure it out :) (It is only fair to use christian logic when assessing christian fault.)

You know their, god-idea is christian-fact because, there is no absolute proof that one of the thousands of christian god-ideas isn’t true.

Therefore, since there is no proof that the christians aren’t at fault, it is a christian-fact that the christians are to blame.

    Therefore…Damn Christians!

  16. rna2dna says:

    Damn Christians!

    Should have only bolded “absolute”.

    Damn Christians!

I guess I don’t get the point of “debating” something that doesn’t exist. Can I debate Santa Claus or the Tooth Fairy? What about Leprechans? Can I debate that there really is a pot o gold at the end of a rainbow in rainbow valley? What about having to be knocked unconscious during a storm in Kansas to get to Oz? (Not australia oz but munchkin and yellow brick rd oz.) What rational, can be scientifically tested and re-tested to prove the results kind of logic can be used to “debate” the existence of god? It’s absurd because it’s a belief and not reality. A person can believe anything, doesn’t make it real.

So to me, there is nothing to debate. Best just to make a donation to their celo-tape fund and move on.

Unless you’re separating the mythology and talking about historical references within the myths that believers use to “justify” their so-called beliefs. THAT can be discussed and even debated I suppose. Time periods, rulers, geographical places, things and people that existed or were believed to exist. That could be an interesting talk, if one was interested. But again, you can’t say so-and-so did this, and not have any proof. I can’t say Nepolian’s horse was named Eric and then demand you prove me wrong. That’s insane. Although again, discussing the impact and historical affect on society such beliefs have had and continue to have, where they developed etc., that could be an invigorating conversation, again if one was interested. I read a wonderfully enlightening book called “The Battle for Christmas” and it maps the history of hows and whys we celebrate xmas, and how it’s developed into what we celebrate today in the US. Quite a remarkable inforamtive book. It’s not a fast read, it’s not a big novel but it’s dense, but then historical books tend to be slow going in that way.

It’s called a closed mind…you know there was a time when the best minds thought that there were only 4 elements…

Actually phreedum those of us who are scientifically minded skeptics are very open to new evidence and will change our minds as evidence is presented. As soon as the religiously minded can provide some evidence for their extraordinary supernatural claims we will be among the first to embrace the god idea.

He(phreedm)does tend to agree with reason a lot.

Reason is one of the few that can have an intelligent debate without resorting to name calling or the “I’m smarter then you argument”…

  23. quantum_flux says:

“I’m smarter than you” doesn’t work in an argument!? Do go on….

No, I tend to use the “appeal to indescency” argument as my peer pressurizer to stop believing in things that are ludicrous. That chick in the banner is really hot, and therefore either your religion is dumb or her hotness is dumb. But, because your religion wants her to where a black thing that covers up her entire body instead of that darwin fish, well, I’m going with the latter.

  24. quantum_flux says:

    … I mean, the former :?

  25. Rusty Shackleford says:

Poor phreedy… always getting his feelings hurt…

Hypersensitive… like so many who are insecure about their shortcomings…

    Sad…

  26. quantum_flux says:

Okay, I’m being dumb because I need a break from being smart every once in a while.

Now, I haven’t looked into the details of the conference (aka the “Party”) but i have set up, or been involved with things of that nature. Aren’t they charging a registration fee for it? Because i’m pretty sure AA isn’t just throwing a party for completely free for its members, they may have some funds allocated for such an activity but a nice chunk of that money will be coming right from the people who are going.

  28. alatham says:

    Phreedm,

Reason is one of the few that can have an intelligent debate without resorting to name calling or the “I’m smarter then you argument”…

This coming from a guy who can’t debate his way out of a paper bag.

Debates require one to make a claim and then prove it, Phreedm. You’ve done very, very little formal debating. Mostly you just make grand sweeping statements and allusions to the undefined “myths” that we atheists “lack” belief in.

Also, that should read “I’m smarter than you.” There should also be a period at the end, not an ellipsis.

Ellipses represent omissions, they are not a textual representation of a slight pause. What exactly are you so often omitting from your posts, Phreedm?

  29. RiftPoint says:

As much as i don’t want to say it, sounds like phreedy would make a “good” politician. He could be the next Bush! (shudder)

I can see it now, phreedm’s surrounded by hundreds of well-groomed young rethuglicans in sweater vests with pictures of Jesus woven into them. They’re holding up signs with ellipses printed on them and chanting, “DOT! DOT! DOT!” “DOT! DOT! DOT!”

Coming from someone who just said that those who don’t want to discuss his Invisible Sky Fairy feti$h have ‘closed minds’ – a fancy way of saying that they are willfully ignorant if they don’t believe in his form of occult superstition. But it’s not name calling or anything like that when phreakshow does it…

Others have already pointed out the wisdom and intelligence of someone complaining about a smarter then you argumentey, you know, post something showing how dumb they are about that whole spelling thing.

And, finally, I would humbly suggest that, for someone who tosses jingoistic off-topic occult propaganda into the comments of a non-religious blog, their referring to having an intelligent debate is nothing but white noise to those who actually try and discuss things on this blog.

  32. (: tom :) says:

    Oops! Farging no-preview comments box…

the paragraph that read Others have already pointed out the wisdom and intelligence of someone complaining about a smarter then you argumentey, you know, post something showing how dumb they are about that whole spelling thing.

should have read Others have already pointed out the wisdom and intelligence of someone complaining about a smarter then you argument when they, you know, post something showing how dumb they are about that whole spelling thing.

    We apologize for the inconvenience.
